This is a series of giveaway for forum members, your SteamGifts account must be at least 2 weeks old and you can enter only one of the following giveaways:

If you ignore the rule and enter multiple giveaways and win one, I'll request a new winner. This special rule was approved by Support.

More giveaways? Hmmm... Maybe. It depends on my mood and the number of entries of the current ones (less entries = higher probability)...

Everyone is welcome.

Puzzle giveaway

The prize is a special game everyone on SteamGifts already own, so solve the puzzle just to show yourself and us you can do it.

To solve the puzzle you need this color photo: Image.

Hints: No watermark was used by me and the image is totally random. Wait, not exactly... I like Eco's beard. As I know, this is the first time someone has done what I did, don't waste your time with something you have seen many times in the previous puzzles.

Hint #2: It's a 256 colors photo.

Hint #3: This image was a very good candidate to replace Eco's one, because it would not have been totally random as the other one. Google has suggested it to me and seems quite popular (it's from a Spielberg movie). You still need the previous image to solve the puzzle, no hidden code here.

Congratulations. :) You too were in my virtual list of potential solvers.

Hmmm... I don't think I'm going to add more hints, those seem enough.

Hah, I was wondering what game that puzzle giveaway was and I thought it may have been Fortix as from what I can tell there have been a couple of solvers, but no one has entered.

Can we get an answer to the puzzle? Since you hinted at the 256 colours thing, I assumed it had something to do with the colour table, possibly the hex code of a certain colour. I also thought it may have been something to do with the name of the person in the image, Umberto Eco OMRI, but I couldn't find any relation to that and the other one, Chunk from The Goonies.

Well, no, it wasn't Fortix. Description for Fortix would have been "a game everyone on SteamGifts wants to win more than Skyrim" or so.

The puzzle was designed to be solved within a few of minutes once you've figured out what to do. The giveaway code is within the 256 colors palette of that image. PNG images contains "chunks", chunks have this format: data_length+chunk_type+data+CRC. In this image you have a palette chunk. If I put the code exactly after the starting of 'data' (where I have put the string "sg>" as hint, instead), it would have been too obvious, so the position was data_length - 5 bytes. This is the solution using a hex editor, and this one is a brute-force way.

Christ, that's beyond the scope of my capabilities, it seems simple enough now that you've explained it, but I would never have figured it out. Bravo to Chour and Cymbaline for getting it.

Thanks much, followed the simple rule of entering only one giveaway and won Gothic Universe! Again THANKS! Curious just how many rerolls you had to do.

No problem. Just Gothic Universe, the first winner has entered the whole lot of giveaways, no one less. You are the second one, congratulations. He/she has not even seen the green bar.
