many many traders are gone and less people trade overall :(. many who traded have now region locks. it wasn't illegal was it?
so now valve wants to earn more money and the publishers i guess, they saw that gifting is mostly cheaper and now gifting was limited + newarly all new releases are locked!

just accept it?

That's the defeatist/pessimistic/quitting thought that get us NOWHERE!
Did the slaves thought of that when they were in chains?
Did so too all other whom fought and even gave their lands, possesions, family & friends and even more their own LIVES?

NO!

They didn't! Why would you quit it before even try it? The stuff doesn't get done by sleepers, pasive attitude, no sir!
Wake up and realize they are taking your rights and shoveling through-- wake up people!! before it's too late!!

We're even luckier there isn't blood spilled, that you could "fight" this from the confort and "safeness" of your couch. So effing do something!

we can always try to search for a bug and exploit it but most probably wont work because gaben knows everything
the closest i found to exploit is trade offers since there is an direct trade offer link that opens the trade offer with the card already added, for example this at the end of the page, IF it was possible to directly add gifts to trade offer by the link and IF lets us trade those gifts would be an pretty nice exploit right?
in my opinion it wont work, i tried and it seems that only works for trading cards but since there are allot of people much smarter them me around there feel free to try :P

I live in the US, what's gonna happen when I want to gift a game to any of my friends in Europe? Is every region gonna get locked up with no way for people to ACTUALLY gift each other games across regions?

No only regions with significantly cheaper prices, Russia+CIS, SEA, Turkey and South America. Copies bought on other regions are unaffected by cross-region trading locks.

People have been abusing the trade system and regional pricing for a long time now. Valve is simply trying to regain people's trust in that system. The problem is that people have gotten so used to buying games so cheaply and so all of a sudden "Hey, Steam is being unfair!"

FACT: Valve makes more money if you buy the games from their store instead of a key website or off the shelf.
FACT: Imposing region restrictions will cut down on games bought from their store. No more Russian traders means no more mass trading and most of the cheap gamers will source third party websites to buy cheaper keys.

Valve are losing something too, so I would consider that before complaining about not being able to pay peanuts for a brand new game.

Yes I forgot about the keys. It's just another reason why people should stop trying to fight with Valve.

Valve won't take this move if it loses them money.

Certainly they are confident this region lock will bring them profit still.

There are also those, who use the trading system to get games that are not sold in their region (for whatever stupid reasons) or to get a "western" version of the game. In my region there used to be big problem with Bethesda and 2K games - you got a CIS/Russian version, which game with language problems and sometimes also with content differences (DLC's not sold etc; DLC that is bought from online shop, for example greenmangaming, didn't work with the version of the game you bought in Steam etc), BUT you had to pay full price for it (that is the price people pay for it in Sweden or UK). There is still this kind of games (but fortunately not with Bethesda and 2k games). Games that require Windows Live were/are also problematic, because those are not sold at all by Steam in some regions. I had to use trade system to get Street Fighter 4 and lately also PES2015 (You could preorder it, but after the release date the game was gone from Steam shop :| ).
