So, the guys behind The Body Changer have been deleting every negative comment about their game on both the Steam community and the Desura game page for a while.

They got a lot of flak from the Steam keys debacle following their Greenlight campain. For those unaware of what happened, the developers put their game in a Groupees bundle that included Desura keys. They later put their game on Greenlight and , to help raise awareness, they spammed anyone who had redeemed the game on Desura with requests to upvote their game. That got them greenlit and the game was subsequently released on Steam. At that point, they doubled their price and provided Steam keys to those who had bought the game directly from Desura and those bundle buyers who had brown-nosed them. The rest of us got the shaft and we were told that if we wanted to play on Steam to buy the game again. They started deleting any thread that popped up discussing the issue, and kept on deleting negative comments up to this day.

The people that got their keys went on to write all kind of positive reviews and never played the game again. Looking at steamcharts this game was DOA and no one seems interested in actually playing it. There's bound to be some legitimate reviews among the lot but I can't figure why anyone would actually enjoy this.

When I saw that the game was part of the gem auctions and going up for next to nothing, I decided to grab a copy. It only costed me pennies and none of that money went to the dev so it was a win-win. I figured I could do an actual review of the game that they would not be able to delete. I did give the game a fair shot though because I wasn't going to post a "This game it shit" review if it was actually great. I was going to include a warning about the developers themselves being scum though, no matter what I thought about the game. The fact is, I quickly figured out why no one is playing. The game is clunky and boring as hell. It was that way when they first released on Desura but I hoped it had at least significantly improved.

The dev was quick to claim that my review wasn't honest and that people thought their game was the best indie game they had played this year. (Could be true if it was the only indie game someone had played.) I wrote a lengthy reply and what the dev did in return was to flag my review as off-topic and reply to it with some really immature comment. Apparently, you're not allowed to dislike their game.

I would appreciate it if any of you would be so kind as to upvote my review (as long as you agree with it of course) so it stays on top and help raise awareness about these guys.

Also, since you made it all the way down here, I think you deserve something for the time spent on reading this wall of text.

Please do not harass other reviewers. They are entitled to their opinion whether you feel it's legitimate or not.

Update
The developer (or Valve support, who knows really) has removed the off-topic flag and is now blaming my posting of a giveaway at the end of my rant as a dishonest way to promote my review.
They also banned me from their forum for "Trolling and insulting"

We don't think that is honest using giveaways to support your downvote.

i actually never realised that there was a giveaway around there lol (3lazy5read) but the dev is being very childish "you dont like my game? FUCK YOU THEN!" when it should be "you dont like my game? why?"
but seriously we can literally see his rage from that answer he is trying so hard to get an excuse the he checked everything in this thread to find one, of course that he probably dont know that on SG we dont need excuses to giveaway something but even if it was with the objective of getting upvotes i still think that was a good idea, striking back with the same method where it has much more impact, just like children he dont like to be copycated

GL alexius, with that attitude it's gonna be hard

Damn, I've been discovered. My terrible plot has been revealed. I have spent $1.60 on GamersGate for a cheap game that will definitely convince people that I was right and that my review should be upvoted.

(Never mind the fact that more than half the people who upvoted didn't notice it's existence before the dev mentioned it.)

Maybe I should have put it behind a istoohard puzzle asking "Do you agree with my opinion" and accept both "yes" and "no" as an answer to provide the giveaway link. :P

I think i get why some devs screw around like that:

They sweat, work hard to make a game on budget(very little) and end up needing money urgently... BUT they're not competent and the game is shit: thus every penny and sale is one step closer out of the red and they end up doing stupid things like that. Idk, its the only explanation i can find, not mentioning a few that are jackasses anyway. These guys seens like the former, seeing people saying how they're attentive and nice to chat- so these acts seens more like desperate acts

I definitely agree with what You said and wrote. I was really angry when I found out that I would need to buy their game again eventhough they was spamming us and promising Steam keys after voting (what I did, unfortunately). I would report this dev to Valve as well because of the ignorance and such. Deleting bad comments and reviews is unacceptable in my opinion and nobody who does that should create a game or anything. I hope Valve will finally do something with such games andneveryone will finally be happy :)

Regarding the highest rated positive review,

Were commenters of things like "Nice" given some incentive to go and upvote the review? If so that's some incredible hypocrisy from the dev reacting to Zomboy's.

EDIT... I should have read more of the thread. It seems this review is well-known to the commenters here already.

UPDATE: See below and the following post for a better explanation of what's going on.

Well this is getting really weird. I'm talking to two of the people that posted comments on the review I mentioned in previous post. Both of them are saying they don't recall ever making that comment. One of them says they'd never heard of the game. Neither of them know the person posting the review.

Is there any possibility that these two people had their accounts hijacked through malware or similar so comments could be posted without their knowledge?

I think your'e onto something. If you look at the comments from page 5 to 15, they're all made incredibly close together on Oct 20th (it may be Oct 19th if you're in another timezone), all within an hour (and by far most of them are within 20 minutes). Surely that doesn't happen by chance or even by simply encouraging real people to go and comment. It looks like the work of automation.

Again, one of the guys I'm speaking to is saying he's actually a bit scared. He has said he uses Steamguard.

i didn't pay any attention to the time stamps before. just wow... we should contact as much people as we could and make them organize if this is the case. they should write a ticket explaining the possible hijacking to upvote a game's reviews and there are so many victims of it. even valve can't ignore something that big.

Looking further, I've found this group announcement

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/freeegames#announcements/detail/230007340752190296

Seems related. The guy who doesn't recall making the comment does happen to be in that group. So it may not be bots after all. I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet.

EDIT... Well, for what it's worth, the person still says he's 100% that he didn't write the comment.

So from speaking to a few more people who made those comments, it seems they're pretty much all because of that giveaway announcement. The sudden surge of comments within 20 minutes could be explained by the fact that people would likely only enter if they were there at the time the notification popped up.

I've now spoken to the reviewer (as Zomby did) and I would ask/remind anyone reading to here not to harrass him. He's a nice guy. There's still the double standard in how the dev responded to his review vs. Zomby's review, but it's not the reviewer himself we should be directing any ill will against. He's not friends with the dev either. I'll be removing or changing my comment on his review to avoid further flaming the situation.

I don't care if my review goes under to like only 1% of people like this review, I just hate the negative comments about me on there. Now if you want to ask the dev something or ask what's up, that's on him, I am in no way affiliated with that, and to be very honest, I wish I could tell you what was going on, but I don't know. If you want to confront him or tell the people of the thread to here he is: http://steamcommunity.com/id/mrKaizen/ , but again, if I knew the reasons he did or didn't do bad or good things, I'd tell you, but I'm not in the loop.

Most people assume because he is on my friendslist, he gave me a key to give him a positive review which is not true. I have cleared things up with a respected member of the Steam community and the maker of the popular forum thread himself, Zomby, so go to him for some clarification, as I have explained to to him, and he understand the situation, that I haven't done anything fishy.

I did get a key directly for the dev, as a reward for hosting his giveaways/announcement things, but he never said i'd get a key as a "payment" for doing it, he offered after the giveaway, and it was never to make a review, I wanted to make a review on my own terms by myself, and I have a dev added, but because he's a gamer, and would drop by a friendly hello every now and then, I don't know about what he did to the community, I honestly don't, and I had no part in whatever happened. He had promised those who commented feedback on the game would get a free key of it, but this is now news to me that he didn't give everyone a key.

Again, you may contact the dev directly, but I'm not in the loop with what he did or didn't do, so if you want answers or something, the dev's profile is here: http://steamcommunity.com/id/mrKaizen/

Thanks for hearing me out, and thanks Zomby and PieceOfMind for understanding the information :)

I respect all of your guy's opinions but please stop harassing me, and stop commenting about me and false information.

Have a great day!

I was the first person to approach you and all I asked of you was to make your review transparent. You responded by editing the reddit post hiding the fact that you had keys and blocking me from commenting. So where are we today. We have an acknowledgement that you distributed keys and that your review is honest. All I wanted in the first place so customers would understand the context of your review. I hope you understand my context and unblock me. I think we can be friends, finally there is an understanding. A simple chat would of sufficed instead of all the drama that you created. People solve issues by talking things out not by covering things up. Perhaps the lack of transparency was an honest mistake. No one is perfect but given that you are a group leader you should be more open to criticism and listen to what people in the Steam community have to say. Like I said, we can be friends though that is up to you.

I thought about making a giveaway for "The Body Changer" that would require downvoting my review (and posting proof) to enter. I have even asked for approval on the special rule but had to cancel my request as some things have happened today and I might not even be able to purchase a copy of the game for that purpose anyway.

Well I bought BM11 and have this game on desura. I never got a message from them and I'm not mad/disappointed I didn't get a steam key. They didn't advertise their greenlight (if it was on greenlight?) page from what I see when their game was bundled so you cant be angry at them for that, not saying that YOU are, just saying. But their responses are dickish...I'm glad devs cant delete reviews because this isn't the first that deletes and bans people from their forums.

Yeah, as I said earlier, if the only issue had been the keys from the bundle things would have blown over by now. It's the way the devs handled things that kept the ball rolling.

Effing Dead:"a survival action-game that was just inspired by RE4"
So in Body Changer they use RE5 models. Their next game will have RE6 Leon as a DLC character.
