What are your thoughts on this?

Personally, I believe in this.

I have just one request to you people, don't let this thread turn into attacks on religion or on one another. Let's just have a nice, civilized conversation. I think we can do it :)

The interesting things which are worth analyzing:

a) It was a priest. Coincidence?
b) He had oil with him. A priest in a middle of nowhere has oil with him. What are the chances?
c) He said to be calm and everyone who were there actually fell "calmness" on them. In a serious situation like this do you think it's possible to make everyone calm with just one sentence and make all of them actually feel this calmness in one moment?
d) He said they will rescue this person. So... he just took a wild guess? 50/50?
e) This town (Center, Missouri), population 508 in 2010. Do you think that no one would actually know this priest? In towns like these everyone knows everyone and believers even know priests from neighboring parishes.
f) And he just disappeared and can't be found.

If you've read those points there's only one thing left for me to say:

"For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't, no explanation will suffice."

Here's my question...I'm going through cataclysm or whatever right now to convert for my fiancée. I'm told God knows, or sees, everyone's life/choices/etc. Therefore, he knows everything that is going to happen. If he knows what's going to happen, why is there EVER a need for divine intervention? Moreso in situations like this...a car accident? I asked this, but was told about Babel and if God didn't intervene and just made the tower collapse, then humans would have just started building another tower. So the intervention was more for getting the point across to disperse across the land as requested. However, that still leaves the question for divine intervention for minor things like a car accident and such....

I don't see any reason to believe stuff like this when it's just an article posted on the internet. Do I believe something like this could happen? Sure. I don't rule anything out, in my opinion anything is possible. Do I think it happened in this particular instance? No.

"For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't, no explanation will suffice."

What an absolute load of nonsense. Religion taught of prophets, healers, and other types of "special people" that god himself either told secret wisdoms, or gave gifts with which to aid the world. No religion teaches of magically appearing priests that no one knows, and disappear into the sunset like some mystery cowboy. This story isn't "covered" by any form of religious explanation whatsoever. Christianity, specifically, also denies the existence of ghosts, so that theory also flies out the window, if looking from a Christian point of view (and I know OP is a Christian).

My take? I have none. This is indeed a quite peculiar case indeed. I have not a clue what to say about all the anomalies concerning this tale.

"What are chances he has oil with him"? Gee, it's not like oil is religious item in at least 5 or 6 religions I can name, so yeah, no reason for that at all :P As for the mob being calm, yes, someone breaking from mob collective panic and starting issuing orders will calm people down if he looks convincingly, no miracles needed. Town having small population? Please, do you know how many people drive from one end of country to the other daily? Nothing of that looks supernatural, all it needed is priest with supply of religious items or simply groceries taking longer trip to visit someplace.

Idle speculation, just as much so as people saying "he could have been an angel sent by God" here.

No opinion since I wasn't there, but it certainly isn't proof of christian God. Religious people always tend to make the fallacious conclusion that anything "supernatural" must be related to their God and it cannot possibly be related to a supernatural being of which there is no preceding "knowledge". Also, there are a number of other explanations such as them all lying, mass hallucination possibly caused by stress, or that it was just some random dude. Even somebody using technology to project an image of this "priest" is probably more likely than a disappearing catholic priest.

Shouldn't posts related to religion be refrained from?
I mean,it's almost always certain to cause a heated debate..

Guys I saw this guy I think he called himself David Blane or something, He captivated the minds of thousands he said in an angelic voice "I will go into this building that will collapse and come out unscaved!" and thousands of people calmly watched him, no one even tried to stop him! Suddenly for some godly reason the building collapsed!! I was in awe! But you won't guess it, that David dude just appeared under the rubble and was unscaved!!! OMG RIGHT!!!

NOW I ASK:

  • How can thousands of people be so calm seeing a person go into a building about to collapse
  • How did he know it was going to collapse in the first place!?
  • How come he knew he would survive?!?!?!
  • How come he did survive!?!?! You have no explanation!!!
  • Why was the guy even there, in that town only certain people live and no one named "David Blane" is registered there!!!
  • After that I tried to get to him to make sure David was ok but you know what, he wasn't near the rubble anymore! He vanished! I watched the people going away and David wasn't among them!!!

Now I'll leave you with this quote "I copied this quote from the same Youtube video as it suits this and I can't be bothered to search myself"
