Strategy war game for the complete n00b?

Wanting to get to play a nice strategy war game, but all of the games are have are too hard / difficult to get into, taking hours and days just to understand the mechanics of it.

Is there anything simpler?

Command & Conquer Generals. Epic game, and the basic mechanics are easy to learn.

If only womeone would make a sequel that didn't suck from the outset .__.
