I don't care about achievements, they're just something i passively get as i play a game. They're just a cheap way for developers to add "replay value" even in cases where it's too boring/linear for most to actually want to play it again for the game itself. It's also very smart because it plays on people's OCD/completionist nature and apparently they've become a factor that some judge games by these days. I'v seen quite of threads on steam, in time, of people saying they won't buy x game because it has too few or no achievements at all.

so what about with Lifeless Planet where on your first playthrough you have to beat it in under 4 hours and not die, unless you ruined the whole game for yourself and watched a guide, or you just happen to be that good. After your first playthrough it's literally impossible.

I think it depends. If it's a newish game and the dev has a good track record for fixing issues, I'd still buy. If the game has been out for over a year and achievements reported as broken soon after release then no.
Achievement issues actually can say a lot about how much a dev cares about supporting their game because achievements can actually very easily be fixed via removing them if they don't have the ability to fix the programming for some reason. Removing an achievement takes no time, so that means the dev isn't willing to even spend a couple of minutes to satisfy the players who do like to be able to complete a game fully. So how are they going to handle it if you can't run the game or have some problem with the game? More than likely not at all. That's why I'll avoid. But if the dev is responsive and tends to fix issues, I'll give it a shot.

Achievements have never influenced my decision when buying a game. As someone else mentioned, the trading cards have a bigger impact on my decision than the achievements. The only time I even bother going for the achievements is if I already really enjoy the game, and I want to get more playtime out of it. Thomas was Alone, Hotline Miami, Beat Hazard (pre-latest DLC).
I do agree with the fact that some achievements are too grindy though, Universe Sandbox has one for like a year of gameplay or something equally ridiculous.

Hi.
For me, to end achievements in a game, it adds challenge additional in a very good game.
Furthermore, some achievements is very difficult has to realize, and when we arrive there it brings a certain satisfaction.
Now it's true, a game as "Orion" with more than 200 achievements or still for "Team Fortress 2" where it has more than 500, I find it abused, and discouraging.

Yes, sorry for my bad English, I meant almost 500.
Edit: wtf 1306 achievements in my steam account it's show 477.

I like achievements, it makes me feel like having more of a game, because I'm exploring the game more, but yes unachievable achievements ^^ are annoying... I wanted to complete all achievements for Lili: Child of Geos, but at least one of them doesn't work and for the other one you have to replay a lot of the game, so I didn't want to do that, when I already knew the other one's not working. Also I'd love achievements for some games that don't have them.

What cant you get in Toy Soldiers? I had the GfWL version and 100% it quite a while back.

The achievements I really hate are the ones that come with DLC, so if you're someone who values having 100%, you have to buy the DLC. Also, I've seen a game or two recently have achievements for Early Access buyers only, and that's fucking bullshit. Scummy.

I completely ignore any achievements. I can see why some people are interested in them and so that they can compete with friends or other players but this is absolutely irrelevant to me. As far as my games go, they do not need any at all, I won't mind. :)

I hate the idea of Achievements actually, it feel like "Hey our games sorta boring, do this, might be fun" or its "LOL ACHIEVEMENT,YOU OPENED THE GAME".
Only people that did it semi right was Killing Floor devs, and only the ones that unlocked skins.

I noticed that I sometimes get discouraged from acquiring a mediocre game if it has many unachievable achievements. This way I recently resigned from getting Orion Prelude or Toy Soldiers. If a game is of a low/medium quality I get the missing fun/satisfaction from getting all/most of the achievements. What about you?
