Hi,

So, firstly, I have played both, I originally first played Dota 2, and while it was okay, I was never really into it, then I tried LoL and thoroughly enjoyed it, but the community is what makes me not play it anymore, it's plan crap, always got intentional feeders, and just rude people when playing LoL.

But I always considered LoL better than Dota 2, mainly because when I played Dota2, I was lucky to have English team mates, and to even start the match, It seemed like most time I was waiting for people, who never seemed to load in (one thing I hated with Dota2)

And I even tried a match a little while ago, but it felt so.. empty, I mean.. nobody spoke at all, no discussion on who is on what lane, just.. nothing at all, and for that, it just felt boring..

I don't know if it's popularity has to do with the whole "Dota 2 items" thing or people are just genuinely enjoying the game.

Reason I bring this up, is that while on MetaCritic I noticed that Dota 2 got a score of 90, opposed to LoL only achieving 78, and I just couldn't see the justification for why Dota 2 received substantially better score than LoL.

LoL - 78

Dota 2 - 90

While the user reviews are quite close to one another, Dota2 still leads..

I play both games, but LoL a lot more since I got maties there. As for liking, I guess I prefer LoL since I love skillshots of which LoL has a lot more compared to Dota 2.

Sometimes I would like to play Dota 2 more, but the problem is that it takes like 10 games to get used to stuff like different attack speed animation for every champ and slightly higher delay in response and as a competitive person I hate sucking in the game, which I clearly do if I do not play it enough.

As for the metacritic, judging games like these two is hard. I think Dota had the upper hand mainly because of the already existing groundwork from original Dota while LoL was starting anew and kept heavily but slowly evolving.

I played both pretty much 300+ hours each... I played LoL only because it's easier for new players so I could play with my friends without being stomped every match. Dota 2 is more complex , takes a lot more strategy imo and average player age is close to 20 years. You'll still find kids that will troll and throw games but hey , they're everywhere...

And btw... if you want to really challenge your mechanical skills , go with dota 2

Dota 2 - APM MASTA WINZ!
LoL - Combination of items/runes/masteries and some more WINS!
In other words, Dota 2 click to win, LoL think to win.

I have played both and I would say they are quite different than each other. Same with Heroes of Newerth (another major MOBA). Both are fun to me (even though I've played a lot more DOTA 2 and have a bias for it). The one reason why I like DOTA 2 more is LoL seems too slow for me. Both games have those troll people or when you're in DOTA 2 filtered for English and people who don't speak English filter it too and then you just end up with teammates you cannot communicate with. I really wish DOTA 2 would just set up regional dedicated servers. I believe this would fix most of the miscommunication in the game. But yeah as others have said, LoL is more arcady and DOTA 2 is more "hardcore MOBA" IMHO.

I'll be brutally honest, both games are good, maybe Dota 2 is a little bit better both in graphics and mechanics, but both communities are full of fucking idiots.
It's a lie that LoL only is full of kids and Dota don't, both games are full of assholes, ragers, quitters and all the worst people you will find on a game community.

"Defense of the Ancients" is trademarked by the LoL devs, Riot Games.
Dota2 is dota2 only.

Ooh! A Dota 2 vs. LoL conversation!

Okay, I've played both. I even played the original WC3 map series DoTA. Personally, I base my opinions on the history and the quality of the games, history because Dota 2 just has a shitty history because of the people who played the WC3 map DoTA.

Dota 2 - It's a product of a map series made entirely for elitists and people who like to try really hard. You'd join a game of DoTA and be either kicked for downloading the map or asked to name items or specifics of an item and if you failed you'd get kicked. I'm not saying everybody did this, or this happened everytime(you could sneak past an AFK host and download the map) but it was pretty common and it was kind of a tradition that made no sense since you could never actually practice the game and in most cases get the game downloaded in the first place. Obviously in DoTA 2 you can't do this, but there's still a feeling of elitism in EVERY match played, and it gets worse with hypocritical teammates or teammates that insult you into the ground but don't lend a helping hand.

LoL - Well, it's really the same thing but it doesn't have the elitist history. That, and it's a lot more casual than DoTA 2 which is considered harder and, due to something called 'frustration', is criticized for having 'OP' heroes. Then again, almost every game has an OP aspect. LoL has its 'ehs' and its 'mehs' but I'd say it's an overall more casual game than DoTA 2.

I think I earned 30 EUR from playing 80 hrs of DOTA. Fun + money for games = yay. Played LOL for 50 hrs but earned nothing :P Still fun with though... I miss fiddlesticks in DOTA.

Let's throw my two cents in the fire: Awesomenauts. Significantly less dickish community and, in my opinion, more skill based and actually fun.

Its easy, dota is the one and only, the original idea and the best executed one too. (I bet you like more Coca cola than a generic cola drink)

The simplest way to decide is "I like to play games on Hardcore mode or just Easy/Normal?"

If you are a casual player, then go for lol. If you like real challenges, and even more, to play the original game (wich is not p2w btw) then go for dota.

Both communities are trash so its not a reference point. All depends on how much time you are willing to spend into the game, as i said, the casual/hardcore formula.

Just know this, if you play lol you will only have 10 heroes to chose and you need to pay for every other you want to use (same as cosmetics items). In dota you have all heroes at your disposal from the very beginning and the cosmetics are dropables ingame.

There's nothing p2w in LoL. You can get only champions (you can get them by playing the game too) and skins with real money.

I've played both and I've recently become obsessed with League of Legends. I've found some amazing people, and I have 4 friends who play it as well.

I mean, yeah. A lot of it just depends on which team has the better Jax/Yi/Teemo, but that doesn't mean you can't win with other champs. I love the free-per-week system, it helps me try out random champs without having to choose from the full 129 champ list.

The game modes are really fun, too. If I'm a little stressed over Classic PvP, I just hop on over to an ARAM. Those are always fun and quick (compared to the 45-60 minute 5v5 Classic games.).

Many people state that Awesomenauts is better than both- and I say HELL NO. I used to love AN to hell, but after a while of being Rank 5 or whatever I realized that everyone is a dick and the team with the Lonestar always won, no matter what. (I was actually Rank 2 for a long time, and I have no idea how!) It was heavily unbalanced (League isn't that bad because every champ has a counter.) and buggy and just plain shit, even though I loved it for a while.

So, basically, League > Awesomenauts > Dota2.

In my opinion, of course.
