Do you guys ever gift games for your friends for no reason? Well, liking them might be a reason. Seems like people gift games only because of steamgifts.com. The original idea of Gifts on Steam is gone. Now you send gifts, because someone won your giveaway and you want to keep your profile clean. There's not such thing as "oh, I'll buy you a game because you're a cool guy".

Or am I wrong? Do you gift games?

I might post a private giveaway in this thread tomorrow. Don't expect anything big like Fortix. I thinking of Tomb Raider or GRID 2.

kthxbye

edit: Wow, I have no idea what I was thinking. You guys are awesome if these games aren't regifts, game you got for free n' stuff.

No not really, I've only given my brother a game or 2. I have also bought him quite a few bundles that he wanted. I do not know any of my other steam-friends personally.

back in the day we used to share games. you know, alcohol120 could copy any game. I still remember the terrible music the key-generators used to play. That was before steam, and since then I haven't played a game illegally and also haven't given friends any illegal games.

Once when I was simply looking for a trade, I met a guy who wanted to trade but in the end the trade was broken off and he gifted me Alpha Protocol, just like that. O_O

Only from genres I know they like and to close real and internet friends, to people on my little group so I also do giveaways for games that most may be interested (rarely and they don't enter greedly). Also don't think, would be great to play this with that person? so bam gift.

Did it once, guy had it on his wishlist... I liked the warm and fuzzy "I'm a good guy" feeling. Too bad he never even installed the damn thing :|
Other than that, I've bought some games for my brother. All the cossacks and Civ's and stuff like that are for him... it cheered him up after some bad luck IRL. :)

You do realize only a small portion of people on steam actually use steamgifts... there are millions of other users who use steam that have probably never heard of this site or choose to ignore it.

And some of them think that this website is some kind of scam (just like i thought when i found it but then i realized that it was legit).

I buy birthday gifts for my friends, and send them as gifts on steam. That way I don`t have to leave the house to get them something :)

I recently gifted a game as a birthday present, and I exchange gifts with my boyfriend from time to time. I honestly see no reason to gift games randomly, except if i want to play them together with my friends. As for steamgifts, I consider it a completely different entity and if I had more money to spend I'd throw in some more giveaway just for the sake of thanking the site for existing and the users for their generosity.

I was bored playing Borderlands GOTY by my self so I bought 2 extra copies of it to give to my friends. One of which played it one day and has been offline for the past 4 months.

I've also gave my friends Metro 2033 keys I bought from Amazon Bundles and not from the Facebook giveaway because it was bothering me that I might forget I had some unused keys in my account and might forget...

And for one of my friend's birthday, I gave him about 20+ Steam keys and he was all like, "STOP GIVING ME GAMES! YOU'RE MAKING ME FEEL BAD!" but we all know he wanted me to give him more...

And another time with the IndieGala Tropico bundle. I thought that it was happy hour and I only had enough for 1 copy and I promised a copy to my friend. When I bought it, I realized that there wasn't a second copy but I still sent the gift link to my friend because I promised it. I was later able to buy the bundle for $4 when I got funds again.

Only times I've gifted for no reason really was to friends I know IRL and have known for a long time. :D

I gave to a friend as a present the Alan Wake, but I think that it doesn't count xD

Yes. I assume I gift friends outside of steamgifts about...$10-$15 worth of games a month more or less.

Of course! Doesn't everybody do this? If a game is on some super sale, and I like that game a lot, I will often buy extras for friends who don't have it yet. I think this is fairly common.

I've gifted some games to people I like. It's a simple gesture, and a very effective one) Something physical may be not wanted, or may break. But the game on steam is eternal and almost always wanted ;)

Not usually for "no reason", but if I know some friend has for example birthday and I often go through my leftover key list and look for something he doesn't have and simply give it to him via chat :>

I'll occasionally buy friends gifts for no reason at all (like not their birthday or anything) but since I don't have any income I have to limit myself on how much i do this :(

I can't afford to give too many games, so when I'm able to get my hands on one to give away, I check to see if any of my friends want it. I just recently gave a friend Orcs Must Die 2 (which he really, really wanted). In return, he gave me Sins Rebellion, which I wanted. We both came out a winner. )
