DOTA 2 is a virus. It infects your steam account and uses it to replicate and spread to other nearby steam accounts.

So I've heard you actually need to play DOTA2 to get invites. So I did.

What is this? I don't get it, I tried a practice match and just kept getting killed by those bots. Halp. :o

I'll take them, I want to see if there is a max number of items I can have in my inventory.

Ahh man, and to think I use to have to do this just to get one copy of Dota 2 Beta!

It is hard to believe, but somebody BUYs them at 1 cent+ price.
So you can became 5+ cent rich.
And it is much easier then giveaway them. ;-)

Just a thought, but I wonder if Valve is simply giving new copies to people who have given away copies before. Valve should be able to track the copies that they are giving out. It shouldn't be impossible for them to see if those copies then get activated by other people. And then Valve can just send the gifter more copies. If that is the way Valve is handling it, then the more you give away just means the more additional copies you will get.

Or it could just be random.

I'm glad I never installed it. Maybe that's why I didn't receive invites except the one for me.
