To answer your question, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Yes, it's a licensed game, but it's from the golden age of Capcom fighters with plenty of unique, well realized characters and mechanics, so it's enjoyable even if you're not a fan of the series.

Edit: I forget it, my favourite fighting game is a classic: Street Fighter II. It was my first fighting game and I spent a lot of time playing it and watching how other people played it! I loved it!

Do we have to say the specific game it was? Like if it was Mortal Kombat, do we have to specifically say Deception or 3 or something like that?
Also sad you didn't put Blazblu, that's probably one of my favs (Unless you did and I am just stupid)
