I agree with most of the posts in this thread. Parents should be the responsible party for raising children. I made the mistake of letting my 2 and 3 year-olds watch the old Voltron cartoon. My 2 year old then turned around and punched his older brother in the face and yelled "I'm Voltron" and then ran away. After scolding him and putting him into a time out I had to tell him the fighting was bad and that Voltron wasn't real. Now my youngest scolds the TV when he sees someone fighting on it, and as a plus his older brother no longer steals his toys.

When I was pre-teen I grew up reading a lot. I'm talking No Country for Old Men, 1984, Jarhead, and other "grown up books." I also read the Buffalo News a lot to.
I had no problem playing M games and watching R movies. I guess I was more mature because of my exposure to serious literature. I think I was also very much able to understand the story of the game aswell.

Honestly? Let them.
I don't see a problem with it, I grew up with M rated games myself and I turned out fine.
But then again I played games regardless of the ESRB rating.
As long as the kids aren't only playing M rated games then it's alright.

What do you guys think about this: Should preteens aged 13-16 be playing games that are rated M for mature?
Games like Team Fortress and Left 4 Dead have a lot of underage players who are obviously traumatized by premature exposure to sex and violence. The same could be applied to movies and television shows.
Call me old fashioned but should distributors be more responsible in upholding these ratings?
