They do. I only ever used my account when Half Life 2 was released, (yes, that long ago!), and last year I bought a bundle, can't remember which, so I tried to log in to my account, nothing would work, password wrong, email address changed, etc. I contacted Steam/Valve and, after a bit of messing around proving I was who I claimed to be, got my account back. They told some damn, dirty, foreign dog, (just kidding to those who HAVEN'T stolen my account ;) ), had been using it for about 6 or 7 years!! I have 419 hours on Counter Strike and I've never even touched the game myself! lol. I would have paid money to be able to see through his webcam that moment when he realised I'd gotten my account back LMAO!!!

Don't beat yourself up over it man. I once deleted a bunch of TF2 items and thought they were gone forever. They got them back for me. They can do anything. Just wait on support and prove who you are. No one at Steam wants to see scammers get away with what they did, and no one wants you to lose everything just because you clicked on something you shouldn't have.

Make sure you clean your computer, run virus scans, malware scans, maybe even scan for rootkits. Heck if you really wanna be 100% just do a factory reset if you think maybe there is still something on your computer. I lost my World of Warcraft account multiple times because of a keylogger back before I was relearning a lot of what I had missed out on from not having a PC for years, and after the second time I just gave up and let the hackers have it because I didn't even play it anymore. Don't give up and just be patient and do the things that the real Steam support tells you to do and what the nice people here who are trying to help you are all telling you to do.

Don't feel stupid and just learn from your mistake. And smile, you'll get it all back and life ain't so bad.

EDIT ---- Oh my God this is 2 years old. How did I even get here??? Did you get it all back??

I think he could get his items back as well. I have a Friend who got scammed in trading (CS:GO items - trades worth $100 each etc.) by impersonator or something. His knife went through trades with few people (You know, scammer wanted to sell it ASAP, others wanted to do the same since price was low etc.). even after his knife being traded few times already, Valve gave him it back (obviously after sending a ticket to them). So I think it is possible :) Good luck with that!

if your house gets robbed, should i blame you instead of the robber?

the thing with phishing sites and whatnot is, that they try to hide the fact that they want to steal your account. it is absolutely understandable that some people fall for it. and it helps noone, if some guys think they are so much smarter and only post how dumb the poor guy is, who got scammed...

Of course you blame the owner of the house... If you are really careful, you won't have your house robbed ever, even if you live in a forest, all alone. It's all about the security measures you take. In this case, you don't download an install something you don't know anything about. Since my dad got our first PC when I was 8, I never got hacked... EVER. Even as a kid I was really careful with everything, so I doubt an adult, or a teen, would be so dumb to install a program that they never heard of. After all, it's common sense that if Valve wants to add a new security measure, they will just update Steam, they won't tell you to install something. It's common logic... Even with no Anti-Virus, someone who knows how to be careful, will never have any problems.

you say, themadness is dumb, but if you really mean what you write here, you are the dumbest person i met on the internet today (and i met many...).

you can always get robbed, no matter how much time and money you invest in security. and a private person can only invest so much time and especially money. it is ridiculous to blame the house owner, if he gets robbed.

think of how thiefs manipulate ATM's. they put their own device in front of it. and it looks about the same. many people just won't notice a difference. they think they are safe, they put their card in it, enter the code - and bam! the money is gone.

phishers do the exact same thing. they try to look as much as the original as possible. and you really can't blame the people who fall for it. a guy who got his first PC with 8 and probably has few to no friends, is experienced enough - now, that he is 12 - to not fall for such a scam. but the average person might fall for it (if nobody did, they wouldn't do it, smartass). and it is really the scammer to blame, not the victim.

really, this is the stupidest thing i read in a while. and instead of attacking me now, you should maybe take a minute and think this whole thing through.

and if you think i am rude to you - just read how you started this discussion. if you want to behave like an asshole on the internet, don't complain if everybody is treating you as such. ;)

My own son emptied my house of every electronic device three years ago while I was at work, ans sold off everything to pay for drug debts, because his sister hadn't left home and turned on the alarm system yet. She covered for him for a while because at first she didn't want him to get in trouble. Tell me again how I'm to blame for this?

People have various level of knowledge about computers and what's obvious for you and me isn't necessarily for someone else. If everyone understood technology, those phishing attempts would never succeed. I've worked in IT and you'd be surprised to see all the stuff people can unknowingly install on their computers. It something sounds half-legit to most people they won't think twice before clicking install.

I've received something via email once, executable file inside a password-protected zip and password in an image as the only message content, deleting it and telling myself "No one would be dumb enough to run this". Had my parents call me up the next day because they had received the same email and ran the attachment. (Because the sender address was spoofed as their ISP, and said ISP had just sent a mail the week before announcing the new anti-virus they had added to the mail server.)

well' I wouldn't compare getting phished. Robbery involve breaking actual home securities - picking a lock, disabling alarms etc. While phishing is like random guy appearing on your doors saying he works for Cable-TV/electricity/whatever company and he needs keys to your house to make some fixes while you are away and you handling him keys like nothing.

The weakest part of any security system is a human-part. If you hand out your login information into phishing site, then you download a program that will actually by-pass steamguard - you're the one to blame. Because whatever securities Steam wouldn't present, you're stil the weakest link that can let the thief bypass them all.

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i like the cable guy comparison. but it's more like he can proof his identity with a (fake) id card. he looks exactly like the last cable guy. what he says he needs to do may sound strange to certain people, but many can't even validate if what he says makes any sense, because they don't know much about cable tv. they just want to use it, nothing more. and you are not shopping, you are in the house while he is doing stuff. that's phishing.

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yeah, except this ID says he's Calbe TV company instead of Cable TV ;)

I do realize that some people are new or ignorant towards such a details, but there's really not much that can be done - phishing using similar site names is around for a really long time, it's not like it's some new method. People who fall for it are the ones to blame themselves. New and new security measures won't ever help if anything as long as people will keep just giving away their logins and passwords to phishers. They only will become more and more annoying for whole userbase (like trading-lock while you have Steam on new machine).

It's sad that he learned it a hard way, but it's not like there was nothing he could do. Like he said himself - he was hopig to do a trade, so he's into trading, and all trading related sites/communities are full of stories about being scamed, phished, "hacked" etc. Not to mention the fact that trading is something of higher level than, in comparison to your example, being just a couch potato, wanting to watch some tv-show. One person after seeing such a story for the first time may wonder - how this whole phishing/scamming work? And how may I protect myself from it. With a very little research that will take few minutes that person will know the basics and will pay attention to such a details like site address, checking profile toi see if someone isn't impersonator etc. Other person will see countless of such threads and will just think "phi, what a looser" and moving on. Until one day he encounters scammer/phisher himself and will loose his items and even account. Both persons will learn how to protect their accounts, the only difference is the other will learn it hard way for his own wish.

"phishing using similar site names is around for a really long time, it's not like it's some new method. "

So does that mean in your opinion, that everybody must know about it? without exception? the obvious answer is no, of course. and this leads to your next statement:

"People who fall for it are the ones to blame themselves."

no, of course someone who doesn't know better, can't be blamed for it. that's what phishers try to do. they try to trick you into thinking you do the right thing.

btw, steamcornmunity and steamcommunity can look extremely similar depending on the used font.

You can't blame the house owner unless he gave the key to the thief because the thief said he is a cleaning service but he needs the key(Same thing as phishing/ scamming online).

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

thats not correct. you need to login with your steam account data on the internet. for steamcommunity.com, and for other sites. if the phishing site hides its identity well enough, you dont even notice. the correct comparison would be: you use your key to enter a house, which looks almost exactly like your house. but it's not, and while you used your key, a mechanism copied it, so a thief has access to your house now. if you had your house for many years, you would have noticed the small differences, like the window frame has a slightly different color. but if you moved there not long ago, you might overlook those small differences.

ok, this house/thief comparison goes too far now, i think. ^^

This user surely meant if your email account has been hacked as well. If not, you may want to change that password before it's too late if you use the same credentials for everything.
If you still have access to your buying notifications (the ones send by Steam by email when you buy on their store) you can contact Steam Support with that information and try to get your account back.
Either way, contact Steam Support as soon as possible. I believe that with your credit card info you can get it back.

Shit happens, but it's too early to start freaking out, don't you think? You haven't even heard from support yet. Plus, you mentioned that your inventory got cleared out, so even if you lost access to those virtual receipts, you can still report this sudden "unusual" behavior and say that it's not consistent with your behavior (from when you still had access to your account), and maybe support will buy it, who knows. They can be pretty reasonable.

Contact your email provider's support team, get your email back by proving it's yours. Tell them the login location is different from yours. How can I correct something when I can't even understand what it is you're trying to say? I was pointing out that what you said made no sense, I wasn't insulting you - and by the way, we all still don't know what the heck you meant, either.

As for my Steam nickname - I'll write it however I damn well please. I made it a little artsy and pretty, that's all, no more. I also fail to see how that is relevant, at all, to anything I said, or even that you said. It isn't even analogous to the offence you perceived me causing you. It literally makes no sense, at all, commenting on it.. Why I don't call myself "The Lone Ninja"? Because nicknames like that are generic as fuck, boring, lame, and uninspired. My current nick looks nice, is unique, and still is simple; it rolls off the tongue nicely, and is inspired by a real-life activity / interest of mine. More than I can say about your Steam nick. At my dojo, I have gotten a nickname of sorts - Oni Shinobi (demonic shinobi), due to the way I move / fight / train. I'm playful and cheery, always messing around with people, but move fast and hit hard, using all kinds of annoying / painful pressure points to mess with people. See my featured badge at the top right? That's right, Oni. The only foil badge I ever crafted, for this very reason - it's been my nickname for about 12 years now, so when I saw that badge come into being, I HAD to have it.

The latin phrase means "deviated innocents". Me and a handful of real-life friends used to have a tiny, non-serious gaming clan called "DV8". I came up with the name, as it sounds like "deviate", and the latin phrase - which was part of our spray logo in some games, and our slogan. We all have had tough childhoods, with all kinds of weird and messed up shit in them, hence the slogan, and the name. So, again, there's an actual reason with some depth behind it, not just some random "tough guy crap", as you seem to be implying.

I am amazed you felt so enormously insulted by my one line, though, that you felt the need to go on a big bitch-fest against me, and drag Hillary down with me, insulting him/her, too. And the best part, is that you didn't even explain what your original comment meant. Is it that time of the month for you? Anyway, so, tell us, what did you mean by "what if they took you your political views"?

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You know what?
I won't even bother arguing with you anymore...just please, please, spare me the details of your "tough childhood".
I honestly don't even understand why some people even bring that up anymore.
Everybody had a "tough childhood" and not only that, life itself is pretty tough too, so quit the crap.
Now let me explain you what i meant with "what if they took you your political views" and let's be done with it.
Actually all you had to do was to follow the conversation and you should have figured it out yourself, but forget it.
a). The thread is called "I've lost everything" and i'll just assume you know what it's all about.
b). HillaryClinton kind of disagrees with the OP and he/she tells him/her that at least he/she's not dead.
c). The OP says that he thinks he should die now (he wishes to die i assume)
d). HillaryClinton makes a statement saying that it would take a lot more than losing his/her steam account to actually even consider something like suicide.
e). Knowing that the real Hillary Clinton is somewhat involved in politics (i don't know specifics since I'm not interested) I try to make a stupid joke meaning that for a political person, their (political) beliefs might be the ones that give their lives a purpose. When i said "they" i didn't mean someone specifically...it kind of refers to the impossibility to be able to pursue those purposes that i explained you earlier of. I know the "you" shouldn't be in the sentence and i probably have other grammar mistakes that i don't even know of but i'm doing my best to learn better English.
I hope that makes it all clear for you now, and whenever you'll have any difficulties in understanding my comments, i'd be thrilled to explain them to you any time :)
P.S. I had this as a guide in translating your name so now I'm wondering, doesn't that make your nickname "generic as fuck, boring, lame, and uninspired" in Japan at least?
P.P.S. Your Demonic Lone Ninja fighting style sounds pretty awesome.
Mine is more like the big guy's :(
My nickname is not that random BTW.

I only brought up the explanation for the latin phrase being there because you stupidly, and childishly, attacked it (for no good reason). You don't know me, or my friends, nor what kind of lives we have had, so don't even try and judge by saying something like "oh boo hoo, we all have had tough childhoods" and try and compare us to everyone else's typical life issues etc. That is ridiculous, and unwarranted (as is most of both of your posts, here). Again - you attacked it, I defended it by explaining that there was some meaning behind it, rather than it being some dumb tough guy crap.

Same goes for my nickname - I explained why I chose it, and that it has a basis in real life. As for it not being boring - that was a response to your critique of the letters I chose to spell it (how it looked). I was saying (let me spell it out for you this time so you understand it better) that the way my name looks is not generic and lame, but unique, due to the letters I used. As for your dumb little link from Yahoo answers about what Shinobi means, congratulations. You have missed the entire point of my nickname, as well as what it actually means. I practise Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, sometimes called Ninpo, not some random "demonic fighting style". Try reading what I said again - my dojo mates called me that a couple of times (Oni Shinobi). Hence, I adopted it as my online nickname, also. It's all pretty simple to follow.. You can do it, this time! I have faith in you.

Good going insulting more about me and what I posted for absolutely no reason, though. You really have shown excellent maturity, and character.

As for what this all is actually about, and where it started - you're still not making any sense. I don't care about little mistakes in grammar etc., as indeed English might not be your first language, but you cannot "take someone's beliefs from them". What does that mean, what are you trying to say? Your explanation of "it kind of refers to the impossibility to be able to pursue those purposes that i explained you earlier of" doesn't help, either. Do you mean "what if somehow, someone stopped you from enacting your political beliefs"?

Stop writing personal stories about your life, your friends and the sports you practice.
I couldn't care less. You're taking this too far.

"Good going insulting more about me and what I posted for absolutely no reason, though. You really have shown excellent maturity, and character."
My insults were strictly based on the looks of your profile, i didn't and still don't care about what it really means for you.
I see a guy on the street who acts like a jerk and has a tattoo saying "Only God can judge me", and i can only assume he's an asshole.
I wouldn't have insulted you if your first comment wouldn't have the exact same purpose...
You were just trying to point out how stupid i am and to insult my English skills.
Where's the honor in that warrior?

"As for what this all is actually about...someone stopped you from enacting your political beliefs"?"
Based on your last sentence, it's quite clear it wasn't that hard to understand what i actually meant, but you only wanted to prove me how bad my English really is.
To that i can only answer that nobody's perfect my friend.
It sounded a lot better in my first language.
Sorry for the insults.

"You're taking this too far." Hah, what? I wasn't the one taking one fucking line and replying with a huge post full of attacks at someone kid, you were.

"My insults were strictly based on the looks of your profile.." - they were still entirely unwarranted, and out of place, as well as overdrawn. Read on for why.

"I wouldn't have insulted you if your first comment wouldn't have the exact same purpose... You were just trying to point out how stupid i am and to insult my English skills." Actually, no. I was expressing annoyance with a very slightly annoyed tone by pointing out that your post made no sense - which was a fact. There's a difference between expression and impression. "Expression" is about showing what's on your mind. "Impression" is trying to have an effect on someone, as you do with insults, which try to hurt people; you were entirely busy with impression on me, through entirely baseless insults that came out of nowhere. I wasn't trying to insult you, I was trying to make it clear that it was annoying not being able to understand your point / joke because of the shoddy English usage. If you felt insulted, I can see why, but I wasn't making a conscious effort to insult you or make you feel dumb. Which should have been clear because I only typed one line with three words about the messed up English.

"Based on your last sentence, it's quite clear it wasn't that hard to understand what i actually meant, but you only wanted to prove me how bad my English really is." No, that's your own interpretation of it because it's something you're obviously sensitive about - not having a perfect grasp of English. Again - I wasn't saying anything about you, I was saying the English in your post was crap, which it was. That doesn't have to mean I think you're an idiot, or that I am calling you one. People make mistakes for all kinds of reasons, yours being simple - English isn't your first language. If you were dyslexic, something you can't do anything about, and your post had so many misspellings that I could not understand what you were trying to say, my response would have been similar - and also still not meant to insult you. As for "it's quite clear it wasn't that hard to understand what I actually meant" - yes, it was, because again - you can't take someone's beliefs away from them. I meant that question as an honest question, and was not sure if that was what you meant, partly because even if that is what you meant, it still makes no sense as a joke. Like you said, maybe it works as a joke in your language better.

Next time, don't get so easily offended, and go on a huge counter-attack that's way, way more far-reaching and harsh than any form of offence you perceived when you fuck up, and someone points it out with a somewhat annoyed tone. You felt offended because you thought I was insulting your English usage (with three words), so that makes it OK to go to my profile and find all kinds of personal things to attack me on in an big post? And it's OK to then toss aside what I post as my explanation / defence and just say "I couldn't care less"? You raised it. I am responding directly to what you bitched about. You obviously cared enough to try and insult those aspects of me - be a man and accept my response, don't act like it came out of nowhere.

I only got annoyed, by the way, because I like understanding people, and see it as a form of respect to try and understand what they're trying to say rather than just think "oh fuck this, this guy's an idiot, can't understand him, ignoring him". Also, I thought (from earlier posts of yours on the forum) that English was your first language - I'd never looked at your Steam profile.

So take a chill pill, and really, learn the difference between expression and impression.

Honestly, i agree with everything you said and i am really sorry for my reaction and everything...
This is the first time I'm writing an answer to our argument without being angry so my mind is a more clear now. I have quite a hot temper and lots of other personality problems, and combined with my constant alcohol usage, i get easily offended and i usually end up fighting with people over the most ridiculous things...(i also got into real fights a few times for this kind of things).
Even though i usually have a huge ego, right now I'm pretty "chill" so i can easily admit that I've got lots of problems and I'm pretty much a bad person (i'm no stranger to making fun of people on this forum and everywhere else, but i get mad when somebody else makes fun of me).
Sorry again for insulting you, and i hope you'll leave this behind and pretend it never happened, just like i will :)

Mighty cool response of you man, mighty cool. It takes a real man to admit when they messed up, and say sorry, and also to admit to flaws. I'm no angel myself and have in the past flow off the handle at people too, but let me be a man now also, and accept your apology and give you props for it, rather than rubbing your face in an oversight you made. Only an asshole would do that.

And don't say you're a bad person. People let their actions define them too often, as well as let their image of others be defined by their actions. I can judge, criticise, or comment on an action you take, or words you speak, without it meaning that I am judging, critiquing, or commenting on you as a person - of course, there's some grey area there, but it's still true. This is also important to realise as it means you can have a strong disagreement with someone, yet still value them as a person, and perhaps agree with them on something else. I hope you also see the connection to what I said about the difference between ex/impression. You can comment on something someone says / does, and be focussed on just "laying your cards on the table" - speaking your thoughts - or, you can be focussed on impression; affecting what they think, or how they feel. Usually, people focus on impression when they have let the actions / words of the person they're speaking to form their entire image of them, rather than seeing it like it is - one isolated event, that may or may not say something, in varying degree, about that person.

The point to life isn't never fucking up, or never being a dick, but admitting when you were, or seeing where you messed up, and fixing shit / apologising, learning and growing. Which you did all of. Now comes the tough bit (the bit I am getting better at over time) - hanging on to what you learned, and letting it inspire your future actions, so that the actions you automatically go for in the future become the ones you want to be known for ;).

Have a good mornafternoonight (whatever it is wherever you are) :)

I’m sorry this happened to you friend. I recommend you to report this immediately to steam support, explaining on you ticket how this Trojan hacked your account.

May be Valve can recover your items if you report it fast, detailing actions of this malicious software on your account, and prevent the community to be affected by these odious crackers too.

This is the link to make your ticket to report your problem: https://support.steampowered.com/

I wish you Good luck.

If you have any credit card info linked (or discussed in your email (OR if your email and password are also your name on, say, PayPal), I'd get busy changing all that stuff too :| If my main email got hacked away from me I'd be in a bit of trouble :> EVERYTHING is linked there: my bank, my disability, PayPal/Amazon/Ebay/GOG/GamersGate/ShinyLoot/Google, about fifty forums, my address book which contains ancient addresses from old friends I wouldn't be able to get back, saved emails with passwords and download keys for stuff like BMT Micro.. Tons of stuff :> At some points I'm scared to even click the X on pop-ups to "close" them.. Easy enough to disguise a "DOWNLOAD THE DEVIL!" button to look like an X and stick it in the upper right..

If this was a pop-up from SteamTrades, well, seems like they should do something about that ASAP :| Very misleading stuff..

ANYWAY! Steam should be able to tell you've been robbed, by the IP address changing, the emptying of the inventory, changing of personal details, and, of course, your filed support ticket.. All-together that piles up into a pretty good chunk of evidence there :| Maybe if you're really lucky they'll have some previous offenses already on file concerning the new IP that's using your account now, too..

Please tell me you don't use the same passwords for multiple things. And please tell me the passwords for at least your email and Steam account are / were at least 8 or 10 characters long, using upper case + lower case letters, numbers, and punctuation marks, without any clear words or anything related to you in them?

Why does it matter what they were like? He got a freakin keylogger, none bruteforced his password..

Comment has been collapsed.

It matters because a) the OP doesn't appear to be someone who has any kind of understanding of internet security / care, so it was worth commenting on for future passwords they might make / use, and hopefully will inspire OP to change any insecure password they have; and b) This particular exploit steals your SVN file, which bypasses Steamguard entirely. Who knows how they got his password? I think it isn't even necessary to have, with this exploit.

Oh okay, I agree with a).
I'm not sure about b) tho, the file you download might as well be keylogger, but as I've said, I've got no knowledge about it, so won't discuss it, if in fact it isn't keylogger, and only steals SVN file as you've said, I agree with that one too.

Remember to activate the 2 steps verification, plus use a long and hard (giggity) password exclusive for that account, something as: kj21h4jkn23, better if you include symbols and upper case letters. Don't forget to change the security question! You can have the strongest password in the world but if you set a stupid security question all goes to shit, so use the same tactic as your password. (Never got the point of the security question.)

I have 2 main email accounts, each one of them has its own password, who is unique, plus the 2 step verification activated.
Often people do not realize how important an email account is, getting it hijacked would fuck so many things.

First of all: be sure to contact you bank and/or other service if you have stored information required for purchase in your account and/or e-mail (if lost). Changing passwords and e-mails for accounts linked to lost e-mail (if you lost it too) is advised as well. Better safe than sorry.

Good luck with getting your account back fast. If you have connected/linked your Steam account to some other services and/or you remember your first e-mail and/or you have some billing details for your account, getting it back shouldn't be hard - just visit Steam Support and make your ticket to report this issue. As for e-mails for Valve, I think in response they will ask you to visit support.
Be sure to contact your e-mail provider as well, detailing the problem. If you have some extra securities enabled / informations stored there, it's quite possible you can get it back too.
As for items - in many situations support was getting items back to owner after undoing transactions made so you might be safe.

Few tips or future reference:

  • don't disable Steam Guard... it's annoying but saves from many problems - assuming other person controls your account, I assume you disabled SteamGuard or your e-mail account was also taken over (if so, be sure to change e-mails and passwords for other accounts!);
  • Valve/Steam services (and others) won't ask you to download anything other than Steam application;
  • commercial applications should be signed (RMB->Properties?);
  • if you are not sure of some application, don't run it in system - for unknown applications i's better to have extra environment like virtual machine, dual boot or something similar, because it's quite easy to read most of passwords once you have application running on computer (Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Firefox and many others - safe applications used for password recovery... recovery and stealing data use same methods but for different purpose);
  • before downloading any unknown application, be sure to check URL from which you have downloaded it (download manager?);
  • same rule as above but for e-mails - always check sender and instead of using password reset links provided (unless you asked for those), simply open web page and navigate to proper form;
  • never use important accounts on unknown computers and in public (or unknown) networks on not encrypted connections (use https only on those);
  • watch out for scam sites... easiest way is to use sites known to you and bookmarking them;
  • and most basic password rules:
    • try not to store passwords unless it's necessary or safe (encrypt them?),
    • use few passwords for different accounts,
    • change passwords from time to time (rotate?),
    • never provide password for one web page other other web page (domains);
    • for very important accounts use strong passwords and remember to provide some extra ways to login (phone number, other -mail, linked accounts?);
  • AV scanner... well, for new threats are usually not detected by them for few days and sometimes even weeks... even paid ones - storing unknown file for couple of days and/or sending it to VirusTotal (it's using many different AV scanners to determine whether file is threat or not) might be wise.

Sorry for lecture - I know it's easy to say after problem but well... with those (almost) no one would have many problems like those :P

Well, once again, good luck in getting your account, items and e-mail back fast and see you around!

You can always attempt to recover account some other way - as you mentioned you are the owner of it. And well, as long as you have some ways of confirming your ownership, there's no need to hope (unless you hope it takes short time), just a need to wait a bit.
Remember to send to Steam Support some proofs of account ownership, for example bill of purchase - this will make things faster.

"Little kids" are still all over the Internet... well, of course it makes them feel better - because of one mistake (even basic one) they can call somebody else "stupid", "idiot", "moron" and they can not be called this way in such case. EGO grows bigger.
As long as "little kid" is really kid, (s)he can grow up, if not...

Calling "stupid" is actually easy... there are many professions - if you are good in one, you must be bad in another one. Includes the very basics of principle. Somebody breaks the basics you know, you call her/him stupid... yay, you are so intelligent then.

9 years ago
Permalink

Love the assumption that I'm a kid. I called a stupid person stupid due to their obviously stupid actions. Continue with the over-analysis, I'm sure you're having fun.

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And now I could start calling you names because, well "little kids" which has proper semantic meaning because of use of quotation marks around. I even made an explanation further on: As long as "little kid" is really kid, (s)he can grow up, if not... so your reply is obviously stupid action, don't you think? :P

Of course you can point out some bad grammar in my sentences et cetera, et cetera... well, as I said, no one knows everything and that's not a reason to call sb names. Ever heard of (n)etiquette?

So you think everybody should call everybody stupid after one stupid mistake? Okay, then entire world is stupid in your opinion, very likely including... you :)

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It wasn't one mistake, it was many, all of which should have flagged up "Something is wrong" in the user's mind before reaching the final stage of having the account stolen, most of which are simple "don't do this on the internet" safety rules. That's why this person is being called stupid.

I have to deal with the fallout of people like this on a daily basis, all because they didn't stop and think about what they were doing at any point along the way.

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, it happens and I have to deal with people like this... on daily/weekly basis. Depending on what people do, there are different "safety"/security rules. Of course in many cases yellow or red light should come to mind... but you know the people - they simply have different drill and order of things and sometimes they behave like kids. Making something stupid doesn't make people stupid or give right to call them like that (c'mon don't ehave as kid as well). Doing the same (or similar) thing again... is quite opposite - patience is a virtue in such cases :)

Sometimes I make some stupid stuff as well but mostly on VMs so basically no harm can be done to me... clean VM/system for important stuff and extra VM/system for fooling around and tests. Worst case scenario - I revert to snapshot, all data is still secure.
