Since this Steam Holiday Sale isn't the most interesting, how about a thread of the worst decisions you've made purchasing games in your time on Steam.
I'll start. Purchasing 3 copies of Afterfall Insanity 2 days before it was given out for free. >.<

That one, and every other multiplayer-only game with a dead community. Including Awesomenauts.

Awesomenauts is dead? Well, that's quite the shame. :/
But I guess they were asking for it when they split whatever community was left.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Awesomenauts is dead because the network connection on the game is shit. They could have gone far with the game.

I can't call it my worst purchase, because it was my first one. Because of this game, my market is unlocked :)

Yea Aces of Spades has dead community, but gameplay is pretty good.

Command and conquer 4

Close second for me is actually Dayz stand alone. Got it when it first came onto steam. Was nothing more than a buggy walking simulator. I know alot of people like it but just feels like there are better games out there of that theme that aren't empty shells with outdated game engines.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

DayZ wasn't worth it imo. The mod as it stands is way better.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree, DayZ is my choice. It was fun with friends but I regret paying 30 bucks for a game of such crappy quality. Worse is the progress they made in about a year, which is almost none.

Dead Island, Darksiders, Grotesque Tactics Complete Pack - all games are complete crap

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Darksiders? Now that's just mean. And dead island is fun for a bit.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

in short i would describe Darksiders as repetitive crap-0 skill required and Dead Island as pre-alpha build of some generic zombie shooter game

Shadowgrounds: Survivor - Compability issues,
DayZ - Devs didn't do what I thought they would,
7 Days to die - Didn't like it that much, price to high

outside steam i regret buying cold fear and cryostasis

Why Cold Fear?

i've played it before and its a decent game, so i bought it on GMG, unfortunately it doesn't even launch.

I have the same issue with a King's Quest anthology... never worked... why release an older title(s) as if they are now going to be playable on your current rig... but not actually make them playable on a current system... that was definitely a waste.

Finally i regret buying something on steam, Gauntlet...cool game, 3 hours of gameplay WOW, would buy again

Dayz and Starbound, the devs abandoned it and even if not, considering the amount of money they earned by early access they're doing an awful job ( think about how there are still no freakin cars....)

I thought they'd added vehicles to stable now? Haven't been on DayZ for a while, I just thought I read something about it.

As for me, my biggest regret is another game from EA, StarForge. Pile of dysfunctional code.

Makes me sad have bought DayZ too.. Arma III would be better, at least I would play.

Starbound is getting a HUGE update, and as someone who's playing the Unstable version of that update, I can tell you it's a huge improvement (I do recommend playing it with people)

Dude, like pinguin said, Starbound has not been abandoned. Its really coming along, and after this update, you could consider it a fully released game.

My personal problem is that it's way too easy, and doesn't let you specialize nearly as much. Using wrong words mind you, but what I mean is that I don't like how enchanting and spellmaking and stuff were gutted. Oblivion feels like the high point of the franchise to me.

I don't mean difficulty settings at all. I even said I was using wrong words also.

Also Enchanting and Spellmaking and stuff are still gutted.

Morrowind feels like the high point.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Eh, the directions are a pain to follow, and sometimes misleading, the skill system is really bloated with half a dozen different weapon types, and a lot of the dungeons have maybe one magical item in them, if even that.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Lol, that's not the game's problem that you can't find stuff without a big arrow pointing to it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It is when they give poor directions. Like calling a pile a pillar.

Also, speaking of directions, the Morrowind journal is awful and Oblivion much improved on it. Skyrim then removed the flavor text which is disappointing.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

try mods :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I shouldn't need to mod the game to enjoy it though. Morrowind I don't have a lot of mods installed on, and even Oblivion is pretty lightly modded, mostly just the Unofficial Patch and a spellmaker limit raiser thingy. Skyrim, though, I didn't enjoy even with mods. It felt clunky and wrong.

Legendary, Dead Horde and Flight of the Icarus (Original) come to mind immediately.

I'm sure there are more games I dislike that were included in bundles.

I've bought Football Manager 2014 in June. Played tutorial, so far so good. Downloaded 1GB of HD logos, still looks good. Started a season and was forced to watch my first match as a GM. 1:5 from an amateur club. I... wasn't prepared for this T_T Never played it since. And that's, ladies and gentlemen, how the worst 7€ purchase in the history of humankind went.

i know that a lot of you will hate me for this but... i regret every Bioware game purchased.

I got the Mass Effect Trilogy and Dragon Age Origins... didn't liked any of those games, wasn't what i expected.

Also i got Wanderlust from a HumbleBundle and it was terrible.

hm tbh i think origins is quite overrated, its decent game but not really great, was quite buggy as well. I feel in general all bioware games that i have played have a lot of bugs, and nowadays its just not even worth trying any of their newer games. Wanderlust is such a turd, i was looking forward to playing it since the idea seemed really nice, but after trying it with friends ended very dissapointed, so much wasted potential, and it was way too short.

The game is meant to be played in Co-op. With 3 friends the game is a lot of fun. It's very tactical and the gunplay is great as well as stealth. It's not meant to be played alone and it is really boring then.
