Blame numbskulls who get their friends to report you after they failed to scam / lowball you.
Comment has been collapsed.
Aren't they supposed to ascertain facts first before labeling someone a scammer?

You are a little off. There is more than one level of it. A Trade Block, and a warning. Because several people reported you, but they haven't found anything suspicious to trade ban for, they give the warning as a safety thing.
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe you're right. Though from what I've noticed, the impersonators marked on SteamRep have lots of cases against them which are verified, and some of the impersonators also have a trade ban. The guy , the first and the only time I had been scammed, too has a trade ban even till now. (Even though I had been the only guy scammed by him)
Still, I agree, their support is worthless and gullible enough.

Steam doesn't actually look into the scam reports made on a profile, its just some code that pops up after so many people report. The report system fails as its abused and not followed up on leaving actual legit reports sitting unchecked in cyberspace.

Back up what you said. Show me proof I tried to scam someone.

He should blame steam they are providing the product, people will try to abuse rules no matter what the situation, Valve should have proper systems in place to weed out false claims. It is like telling users to blame the hackers after PSN got hacked and bank details got leaked, of course the hackers are in the wrong but Sony should also be responsible for a secure service that functions properly.

You mean Steam doesn't fucking investigate those reports? Many times it's because their low ball failed.
Does it mean that once you hit a certain amount of reports you get marked as a scammer? What the fuck?
Comment has been collapsed.
Steam tries to deal with stuff in the easiest way possible.
Comment has been collapsed.
The warning is automatic if you get enough reports, a trade ban is manual if they find proof of suspicious stuff.
Comment has been collapsed.
That is correct, I once contacted them after having the same tag due to impersonators and they told me that they cannot remove the tag manually, it'll be automatically removed after 2 months assuming you haven't been flagged an X amount of times before the tag is removed.

Consider how many reports they would have to go through daily for that. Even if it were a manageable number, it would be difficult to investigate them.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes.
If someone gets pissed they'll just load up their alts and all report you.
You can try Support. They probably will ctrl+v some bullshit response, but it's worth a shot.
Comment has been collapsed.
well they don't even have quality controle so what did you expect
Comment has been collapsed.
That's a problem on your end, not steam's. There are many scammers who go unpunished , and there is no way steam can know who all are the scammers and who are the innocents, from all user reports. You should simply not accept any suspicious friend requests. Or, in your case, as you're a trader, you can tell people to send you a trade offer instead of adding you, in your description. This is not even a proper cure, but works better than more irritating 12-year olds reporting you.

Yet another reason GoG.com is superior to steam, their customer service is awesome and I strongly suggest that if people can get the game via GoG rather than Steam, to go ahead and do that.I even have some games on both services, having bought/won it on steam then getting it on gog later.

Steam is incredibly poorly run. Seems it's really only doing so well because it has a de facto monopoly. I can never understand why gamers sing Gaben's praises TODAY. He should be commended as a visionary and entrepreneur, but Valve as a whole has clearly grown beyond the man's ability to manage.

Yes. An observant post.
Lack of real competition is the only thing that allows Steam to maintain (facetious connotation) such a ridiculous level of "support".
Bottom line is that they don't give a damn, because they don't have to. If they felt ANY financial pressure, then they'd have to attempt to have some grain of QC in their support.
As it is now, I'm pretty sure they're using Washington State Penal System employees that are trying to learn computer skills to improve their chances upon reintegration into the real world.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, well, they don't. It's an automated message.

Its not trade block, its just information for you/traders;)

am i not correct in saying that false reporting may lead to some sort of consequences?
Comment has been collapsed.
In theory, it would, in actuality they prolly don't have the means to double check very many of the reports they receive.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's Steam's fault that other people are either misrepresenting you, or misreporting you.

+1 fast & friendly scammer, would get scammed again
Comment has been collapsed.
That has nothing to do with steam. Some douche probably flagged you. I got flagged after I refused to trade with someone for some crazy card deal/scam he had. It does not affect you at all, calm down.
Comment has been collapsed.
I got flagged by some beggar who wanted me to give him my CS:GO items. An automated system only works correctly if no one abuses it, which is never.
Comment has been collapsed.
So you tryied to scam someone and Steam got ya ! Nice, hehe, cry more.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think you have not been doing much reading. Even innocent people like me gets marked as scammer just because some adolescent punk thinks his low ball offer shouldn't be rejected. And I reject literally dozens of offers a day.
Comment has been collapsed.
It will go away in a couple of weeks if you don't get reported again. Professional traders don't care about these warnings as there are too many false reports, so if you're otherwise reputable with decent rep and non-shady profile you shouldn't get any disadvantage from this.
Comment has been collapsed.
Here's the response I got from Steam Support when this happened to me a few weeks ago.
tl;dr - It expires 3 weeks after the report, and cannot be removed manually

Steam Support seems unable to do anything that can change/modify issues on your account. It seems like everything is automated and all support does is Ctrl-V generic replies.

This has gotten me scared for trading that I conduct. I'm fairly certain I've been labeled the same way because I deal with several people with terrible attitudes quite regularly.
The implication that you might be a scammer or someone who has violated the Steam subscriber agreement is completely ridiculous. It doesn't matter how nice you are or how rude, your reputation is out of your hands.
Comment has been collapsed.
I got the same exact automated reply.
I don't even know how or should I even reply to those idiots.

I always keep the thread going as long as possible. It's not fair to other users, but often times CS farm reps get penalized for taking too long to "resolve" an issue. I have no idea if Steam farms or if (almost inconceivably) they actually hire local "talent" for this job. Requirements include:
My daughter's first grade cohorts could do a better job reading support tickets than do Steam contractors/employees.
And even withe Steam "support" I've had some luck dragging it out as long as possible until I get either a) a proper resolution or b) a human answer that is in full comprehension of the original question and with a respectful and appropriate response.

Copy/paste bastards. Support is probably in some 3rd world country to save a buck, and they have reps who scan support mails for keywords, then check a list of things translated in their language, and then copy/paste back whatever pre-written reply by a native speaker that seems to fit most of the keywords.
Or are in fact just bots themselves.

So you're saying even though I did not scam anyone, did not try to scam anyone, I am truly deserving of this? You don't even know how I trade so don't conjure your own story up.
Comment has been collapsed.
I had that at some point because I wouldn't give my CS:GO items to a beggar who added me. He just rage reported me and probably had a few friends or alternate account do the same.

In the meantime, scums like that happily prowl the Steam community.

F**K YOU!
I've never done anything wrong and I got this.
UPDATE: Steam support's reply.
Basically it means, they created the system and yet they can't do shit. And they are too lazy and incompetent to investigate the details so an innocent person gets hanged, drawn and quartered for Lord Newell's personal pleasure.
The first part of that email was for a suspected fraud case I reported earlier and they closed that ticket without any reason until I reopened it. It's stupid as hell because I didn't even get scammed or lose anything.
