Found it completely by accident. Uplay is a steaming heap of irredeemable bull nuggets, but they've had some great deals on in the last week.

If its not steam redeemable by itself, what platform is it?

It's on Uplay - Ubisoft's, clunky, crappy version of Steam. When you purchase, they give you a key, and normally you would download the game through Uplay. However, with D:SF, you can bypass this and enter the code directly into the vanilla game.

If you bought the Uplay Deluxe version, yes. If you upgraded from the vanilla Steam version, it's on your Steam a/c, although it kind of amounts to the same thing since you still have to have Uplay running alongside Steam (à la GFWL)

yep i know, u have to log in on Uplay even if u got steam version, but its still steam version XD
i hate monopolies but i cant avoid being an steam fanboy XD
I want to have all games in the same platform, and steam is by far the one where ive got most of them.
Its uncomfortable to have them separatedly...:S

I can't say for sure, but from what I've read most of the Ubisoft games on Steam require a Uplay account still.
It could be that the menu within the game is interacting with Uplay servers and that's why you were able to enter it. If you go to Steampowered.com and go to your transaction history, does it actually show the deluxe edition there?

You use the code to unlock content within the game, so it's not a Steam transaction per se. It's not in tx history. I mentioned it because people may not realise they could get a cheap upgrade for their vanilla Steam version. Especially useful since Steam themselves don't sell the Deluxe upgrade as DLC. If you wanted to upgrade from vanilla to Deluxe, you'd have to purchase the full Deluxe game to get the extra content.
As you suggest, Driver (like most modern Ubi games on Steam) requires a Uplay account, but if you've installed vanilla Driver, you've already got an account :(

I guess so, although I don't know how many games use such a menu to add DLC or other micro-transaction related codes.
Ubisoft games are a bit odd, and the company seem not to care much about the end user, and how much their DRM might inconvince him/her. The ends justify the means every time in their rabid crusade against the myriad armadas of evil peg-legged software thieves that sail the seven internets. A little collateral damage, and a volley or two of friendly fire is the price we, the legitimate users must pay for our own "safety and protection as fee paying customers". Ubisoft are dicks, who have totally lost the plot as far as DRM goes. Now touch your toes and think of Skyrim...
All of which is a roundabout way of saying don't take anything for granted with Ubi. What works in one of their games may not work in another. And also an excuse for a little venting, obviously.

Hopefully this may be useful to someone:
I had the vanilla version of Driver:SF on Steam, and purchased the deluxe version on Uplay for a single Aussie dollar (daily deal). Yes, I know, but it was only a dollar...
Turns out, if you own the Steam version, you can go to the game title screen, then click on Extras > Exclusive content: This will allow you to type in a code. Punch in your newly acquired Deluxe Edition serial, and your Steam version will be upgraded to Deluxe, unlocking all the extra cars, etc.
Please note, the codes themselves are not Steam redeemable. You will need to own the vanilla game in order to upgrade.
