Depends on your age and genres you enjoy. If you're from the early 00s, not really, but if you're from the 90s or 80s... Yes

Don't forget 'Half life: Blue Shift' and 'Half life: Opposing force'

Nah, Half-life 2 is good, but there's plenty of better games out there.
If you've yet to play, I'd recommend at least trying it out at some point though.
Edit: Oh, Half-life, Well... I don't know, I haven't played it myself either, however I've played Black Mesa which as I understand is pretty much Half-life remade to be more modern (Updated models, textures, not sure if gameplay is changed a whole lot). And it's really great.

Since no one else has said it, I will. Black Mesa isn't 100% exactly as Half Life 1 is. It's pretty close, but not exact.

plus the fact that it doesn't have all the levels yet

It's supposedly 90% done but the website is pretty much dead now. It's been 90% done for at least a year now.

It's probably because it's been greenlighted on Steam a while back, and the devs will be releasing it as a free mod on Steam itself

I could be misinformed, but I heard that they got the call from Valve to allow them to make it into a full game. That's why they haven't updated the mod in a while.

The only thing great about it is 'modernizing' Half Life 1 with better graphics.

You don't necessarily need to play a game to be a "true gamer".
Some people don't enjoy certain games, so they don't play them. But if they play other games, they are still gamers regardless.
As an example, I never played Halo but I still believe I'm what could be easily considered a gamer.

Man... the Halo series is actually like, pretty great. Even if it's multiplayer has been very overhyped, I think the single-player experience is definitely worth it if you've got a system able to play it and can pick it up for a reasonable price. (The first two Halo games are available on PC.)
Also, another great game that started as an X-Box Exclusive is Fable, it's pretty amazing as well (and was also ported to PC...), the graphics and animation may be a bit dated now, but if you can get Fable: The Lost Chapters for a reasonable price somewhere it's worth it, possibly more than the Halo games would be depending on hat genres you like.
I think Fable's available on Steam, and I've heard the sequels aren't nearly as good as the first.
Not really sure on the Halo situation, I'd think it'd come to Steam at some point, but I guess Microsoft has something against giving (certain) good games publicity and fairly easy access...

HALO 2 gave my PC BSOD, since then i don't try it :D

I...Did...Change it! :O
Do you like it, or the other one was better? :D

I like it. As long as I can still recognize the awesome dragon you got. I'm thinking about changing mine too. Some other really dorky picture of me. lol

No and you shouldn't give a s**t about what people think. If the only game you played was Goat Simulator or Candy Crush Saga if you enjoyed it then voilá: you're a true gamer. If there's something I'm sick of in the gaming world then it's gaming snobbery... It's for fun everybody plays whatever they enjoy, I mean thats the point right?

If I enjoy eating out of a bathtub full of my own feces does that make me a real food lover? What if I watch the Thomas the Train Movie on loop over and over again, does that make me a film connoisseur?

You might as well be. All those things are just titles given to people based on personal perception. They don't actually mean one thing or another.

No, its means your a gamer that should maybe play it in the future.
You're only not a true gamer if you never played Pac-Man and Ms.Pac Man, Creator of cutscenes!

If you've played counter strike (half life mod), that should count as well.

I've never actually enjoy playing every Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Civilization, Dragon Quest, GTA, etc. (AKA; most mainstream games)
I think those are just complete suckz and I don't give a fuq what people think about me
but I still call my self a true gamer, because I actually tried and play the hell out ALL of them before I called them suckz
TL;DR play whatever the hell you want

maybe you just don't like japanese sort of thing, how about Dragon Warrior? it use this name in english version
it's even older and more classic than Final Fantasy and the franchise still going till this day
no offense, but when someone called himself a gamer and never heard of Dragon Quest/Warrior it just hard to believe; it's like you never heard of Pong

I have no reason to feel offended for that. ;)
Let's see, according to Wikipedia, all the games in this series were only for consoles/phones with the exception of the newest one which was on PC but exclusive to Japan (and an MMO, ewww). Furthermore, the first 5 games in the series (which I assume were the boom of it's popularity due to the density in their production) were made before I was even born. As the poster above said, the 8-th game was the first to be released in Europe all the way in 2006 (I'd also make an educated guess that it took it even longer if at all to get to my backwater country). By then I already had a PC and was fixated mainly on PC games. So, there is no way for me to discover it, without someone pointing it out.
However, all those other games you pointed out as mainstream- they get mentioned often. Here on the forum and in general gaming conversations. I haven't seen anyone else stress on Dragon Quest before. For example I knew about Final Fantasy way before it got a PC port since it gets praised often... but Dragon Quest... nope, haven't seen it. So you were the first to stress about that game as far as I'm concerned. :)

Play what you like, not what is popular, like DSP >:(

I also only played it recently. I got the complete pack on Tremorgames and I must say, it was totally worth the coins.
You need to play it! :P

You're not a gamer until you play every game I like and every game every other gamer likes. You should play every game ever just to be safe (fifa and call of duty don't matter) ;)

Here Half-Life in 60 seconds, so you can know what you have lost.
