Although, if you lack ASIO-capable hardware (like I do ever since I sold my X-Fi Platinum) then using foobar's standard output a more appropriate choice; ASIO will have to be emulated, and if you're not experiencing skipping with foobar's standard output then don't worry about ASIO.

I couldn't like AIMP3, because its' tempo and pitch options aren't stable (skipping, stuttering) like AIMP2, so, i'm still using AIMP2.
That enhancer plugin also available for AIMP2?

iTunes, mainly because it has a nice UI, Smart Playlist allow for bureaucratic listening along with the queuing feature for easy cravings, delicious album art grid view, apple lossless compatibility (I don't care much for Lossless in general, anyway), Apple product support.
Basically, the perfect audio player for me.

Was using WinAMP for years (pretty & functional), but as of about 2 years ago I've been using foobar2000. It's not as visually appealing as WinAMP, but provides more flexibility with audio quality; currently I have it setup to re-sample & up-mix ALL audio to 24bit/96Khz/5.1ch (will go to at least 192Khz/16.1ch). Also supports replay-gain analysis of surround sound files, many formats (FLAC, MP4, OGG, etc.), and has some nice visualizations... Plus other tid-bits like song shuffle (and random).

To me Winamp user interface is good. In fact better than Foobar and Aimp. It's all about your own taste.
As for sound quality, it depends more on your source and headphones/speakers and whether you are using amp or not than the software used.

It's true WinAMP is prettier than Foobar and Aimp3. But when it comes to audio quality, foobar2000 provides options that WinAMP doesn't (even including the plug-ins that are available); WinAMP lacks a built-in re-sampler and up-mixer (amongst other things), and of the available plug-ins for WinAMP none of them provide the quality level that foobar2000's does. Being able to re-sample & up-mix all sources to 5.1ch at 24bit/96Khz with full sine-wave reconstruction has made quite a difference to my listening experience.
And your final audio quality is the sum of all parts; even if your speakers/amp are low-quality, feeding them a lower quality signal will provide even lower quality sound... Best to maximize whatever you can! =]

Foobar2000, obviously. Extremely lightweight if you want it to be, has plenty of add on components for any sorts of features/support you like, and it has a freaking spectrogram visualizer, which is actually my favorite part. Also, totally customizable UI.

I've been using Media Monkey for a few years and it has everything I want. I also use it for FLAC, but the main reason I use it is that it can easily handle a 50.000+ library, a feature that other players don't even come close to. For more proof: http://mp3-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

Well, that "quality" you are talking about is the fact that other players process the music in some way (something like as the radio stations process the songs) which adds what you call quality to the songs. I like my music raw, as the composer intended it to be, and with no other pre- or post-processing, but to each his own taste :D. I think you're better off with foobar (which I've also tried and liked, but settled for mediamonkey for its ability to organize a large database, the information fetching from amazon, and many other features that are presented in the link I posted) ;)

foobar2000 for old school or AIMP3 is great too! Itunes,windows player and others just sucks its for 128kb/s users who dont have normal stereo system or ears... btw u should have normal audio cart like steinberg ur22 or scarlett 2i2 or creative e-mu ... on realtek u cant hear even half of instrument in music. (my English is not perfect as u can see if u dont understand what i mean i can explain)

I got it, thanks ^^ Btw i have an onboard realtek audio card, the motherboard is the Asus Maximus VI Extreme and from what i've heard i's a good audio card. I didn't thought that realket was that bad xD

Hi there once again brothers and sisters! Today i'm going to ask a question that will surely bring chaos and destruction upon our little planet...
As the title says, what do you think is the best audio player now? And why?! I'd prefer some kind of explanation, if you don't mind ;) So don't be shy and bring it on!
PS now i'm using Jet Audio (mainly because of his FLAC support) and I think it is a good one, but i'd like to listen what do you think about it too :)
