you share a physical computer, not a library in the cloud

yeah, kinda defeats the point. it would be cooler for friends around the world to try out some of my games.

They can. Your friend (or a random stranger on your friendlist) has to ask for authorization, you can authorize HIS COMPUTER for the family sharing (or not). You both confused that part, apparently.

Its not the first people to join the group. They're saying their first wave of invites will consist of 1000 people whom are in the group. They will have more waves of invites on a regular basis.

awesome, xbox one's only cool thing, steams got it... although i kinda wish that you could play one game in your library and someone could play a different game at the same time. Not the same one obviously but, i dont like how its only one game from one library for either party. Still this is a good advancement

Yeah, that's a bummer. Too bad my friend won't be able to play The Witcher while I'm playing GTA4.

It's not clear yet if the sharing will work while one of the people is offline.

No, a shared library may only be accessed by one user at a time."

And nobody in my family would be too interested in the games in my library, anyway :P

Apparently you could earn up to 10x cards this way. Can someone confirm that I understood it correctly?

1 decade ago

Nope, achievements and saves are separate. It would be stupid if cards weren't.

I think he's asking if when other people play the games from your library, do they also get cards? Cause you can make it a requirement that to borrow your library, they have to give you all the cards or something

FAQ:
"Q: Can a friend and I share a library and both play at the same time?
A: No, a shared library may only be accessed by one user at a time."

So it's useless, isn't it?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No they're talking about a single game, or at least I'm fairly positive they are.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There's nothing about single game. There's "a shared library".

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well this was posted a while ago when it was leaked or found in the steamdb and I believe it said only 1 user can play a game at a time but maybe they changed it.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The question is: only 1 user can use the library at time, meaning that if I play 1 game of that library, nobody else can play any other game OR nobody can play the same game as I do at the same time?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I understand the question and the FAQ is quite clear but I'm saying in the past it said GAME not library. No one has access to it so interpret the FAQ as you wish.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Confirmed to be shared library access. No playing different games.

Can you imagine how much money they will lose if everyone could play the shared multi-player games?

Sure. Lock me out of BL2 if the owner plays it, but let me play one of his other games, gaben.

If they can also earn card drops, this thing is gonna be abused to high hell.

I guess maybe. I just read this:

"Who owns and can access the DLC and in-game content associated with a borrowed title?

A borrower will have access to the lender’s DLC, but borrowers may not purchase DLC for a base game they don't own. Any player may purchase, trade, earn, or otherwise acquire in-game content while playing a game, but in-game items cannot be shared between accounts. These items remain the property of the account that purchased or acquired them, whether borrowing or lending the base game."

It's like they should test it in a beta or something..

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

100% surely they won't be able to get cards. They are earned by buying not by loaning a game.

Otherwise: Make 10*n accounts and script that
a) changes shared accounts
b) idles cards
c) repeat from step a with different accounts until all accounts done with all games
d) profit or maybe steam market crash

I hope there's a rule for VAC banned accounts.
Not that people start creating alts, share the game/library and keep on hacking on the new VAC-clean account.

Will I be punished for any cheating or fraud conducted by other users while playing my games?
Your Family Sharing privileges may be revoked if your library is used by borrowers to conduct cheating or fraud. We recommend you only authorize familiar computers you know to be secure.

I can see it being a frequent thing from children. Hopefully there will be an easy way to prevent people from seeing you as a library target. No idea how, but it might be needed.

Setting profile to private. People won't be able to see how many games you have. ;)
