Hello,

on my first giveaway it happened, what I feared... I had to give a game to a known cheater with multiple VAC Bans.
I am known for being a cheater hater, I don't care about people that insult me because of it. Well, so I would love have an OFFICIAL option to disallow entrences for any VAC Banned users.
I do NOT want to support cheaters with free games especially not multiplayer games.

That I exactly hit such a player on my very first giveaway really struck me.

Would like to hear other opinions about that.

Public GA's can't make special rules and re-roll.

That is not correct. We don't just approve requests if there is no reason. I don't know which giveaway you are talking about but you can check these out, since they are most likely the reason for that reroll :

If the gifter wants to have a winner that owns fewer games from that bundle, they can request a new one, yes. It's not mandatory, though.

It's because you already own the game. It's legit to reroll if the winner owns the game and was just entering for DLC/Extras.

LOL! What a liar! xD
I requested a re-roll because you've already own the game. You need a special warning "not to enter the $30 pack for $ 6 dlc"? Really? What the hell?! I'm not going to describe the obvious things. <_<
On the contrary, well-mannered man would ask can he enter or not…

You won the Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle bundle over a year ago and it includes the Frozen Synapse soundtrack, although not the "Steam version". In reality, chances are the one on Steam is only mp3 while Humble Bundle offers flac or mp3.

did you already own the base frozen synapse or something? because thats a rule even in public and doesn't need to be stated(its an extension of the rule not to own a game, if a winner owns any component of a bundle you can reroll because they entered and won a game they have(it just happened ot come with other stuff too))

oh, then you're just being an asshole lol. if it was a multigame bundle that'd be understandable(still within the gifter's rights to slap you down though), but you entered for a game you own that happens to come wtih a side goodie(soundtrack) so the site didnt automatically stop you ;P why complain about that?

You have the option, private GA with special rule and post the link in the forums.

VAC banned people also make giveaways, so it's unwise to just ban possible contributors because someone else banned them.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sorry, cheaters contributions don't matter when you take into account the fact that they CHEATED.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So let's also exclude people that divorced people due to cheating (mariage) and anyone that's ever done anything wrong in life and got punished for it, from participating on this site, because they're so freaking relevant.

It's not like they stole the game and gave it to you, so... VAC ban is irelevant for contributors.

And since this site relies on contributors (and has a set of rules to avoid driving them away), this rule will never be approved by staff.

Also I do understand your anger towards cheaters (I also hate cheaters, everybody does), but you're releasing it towards punished cheaters, not towards active and yet undetected ones.

Again, you can just make a private GA if you don't want your game to reach a VAC banned account.

PS: I'm not really defending anyone here btw and I don't care if this gets approved or not because it doesn't affect me :} I'm only telling you guys why this most likely won't.

You don't have to give the game to that person. You could take the -1. If you want to make a non-VAC/Trade ban giveaway, make it private or group only and get your rules approved by support. Then you're good to go. In this case, you either give it to them or you don't. If you feel bad about it, don't. There's no gun to your back.

Tough question.
I don't have a strong opinion on the SG + vac ban topic, so I would probably allow it anyway.

But to be fair, you had to be very unlucky to get a winner like this. Very very few % of people have vac bans here, but that's just my guess.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree with you. I would use that option for every giveaway. I trade games often, and will sometimes not trade with VAC banned people just because they're VAC banned. I strongly dislike cheaters because they're being very selfish and ruining a game for many others just because they think its fun. If you're actually good at a game then theres no reason to cheat. If someone disrespects other gamers by hacking and ruining a game everyone paid for, then why should other gamers have to respect them? I've had many bad experiences with hackers and have had trouble finding matches in games that DIDN'T have a hacker. Its so annoying. If people purchase a game they should be able to play it how its meant to be played, not be forced to server hop trying to find 1 good match until another hacker joins.

Edit: I don't care at all if you hack in single player games or in a private match with a friend. Its when it affects others that it is wrong.

Hello,

thanks for the replies already. It is kind of interesting how many people don't care to maybe gift cheaters/betrayers a free game.
About the "private" thing. I know that, due to the support, BUT! this question is for OFFICIAL support of this feature. I think, that people that betray others by external programs just should not be allowed to gain free games this way. It is like supporting a cheater, if he wins.
Also I have in my mind, that people that betray in games, will do that also outside like on websites.
And the VAC Ban is not harsh enough in my eyes. I have a mind of: VAC Ban = Full Steamban <3
But well, that'll never happen though.

Why am I overreacting ?
You can cheat in private games, where everyone knows, you can cheat in singleplayer as much as you want, as long as it stays on your client-side. Why do others have to be involved ?
Yes, if you get a VAC Ban it should get you a hard punishment. I am honest and already said, that I would even be for: VAC Ban = Steamban. Period. Might sound harsh, but come to think of it. If you have the risk of losing 100+ games, you REALLY think thrice about cheating. This should clearly answer your question.
Oh btw. I am Admin of some games and they go very well :)

1 decade ago

You get so worked up over video games, it makes me wanna laugh and cry at the same time. Get your priorities straight. Cheating in a videogame sucks, yes, but it's not a crime, so stop treating people, especially those who cheated once when they were a stupid kid and never did it again, like criminals and demand draconian punishments.
And no, you still did not answer my question. My question was, what about those people who'se VAC ban is a few years old? They never cheated again, so what with them? Will you continue acting like a dick towards them? Stop seeing everything in black and white and stop being so butthurt about videogames. Jesus.

He should have created a new account or think twice before actually cheating then. Keep in mind: he's talking about a user with MULTIPLE vac bans, not about someone who made a single mistake 8 years ago. :p

And of course people are butthurt, cheaters ruin the experience of thousands of others every single day.

1 decade ago

Nope, if a VAC Ban is given falsely, they will be removed. I know a few which had that problem, when there was a few hours long bug in TF2 which created those false VAC Bans.

VAC rarely makes any mistakes if they really did you can bug them till they look into it and probably get it removed.

And once again: the OP is talking about a user with MULTIPLE VAC bans, that can't be a mistake anymore.

And you can't kick people in CS GO competitive if they are in the opposite team, and the people of that team are usually dicks too because they see it as an easy win. You are forced to stay till the end of the game.

1 decade ago

Then just take a look at the answer under me ... he is talking also about users who have only one vac - ban, even if it's years old. Don't tell me that's not an overreaction? Over a video game? What the fuck is wrong with you people

Cheating is cheating (if it's MP anyway, I dont give a fuck what you do in SP's, I've cheated enough in GTA SA lol), it being a videogame doesn't matter. If it's MP you ruin the experience for many others. Overreacting? Not really imo, those people paid for their game and that one dick ruined/is ruining it for others.

Go play 500 games of competitive in CS instead of that silly casual, maybe then you'll get it. It's lovely to be forced to stay till the end (or face a comp ban yourself) when you are playing versus an obvious aimbotter/wallhacker. :P

"Sometimes I had the first place in ranking, then someone else would take it. Maybe they were cheating, maybe they were not."

So you never encountered an obvious wallhacker/aimbotter? Shame I just removed my google+, had some nice videos of some guys I encountered :(

"Whenever someone spoils a game for me I give myself few minutes to be upset and depressed over it. Then I find something more interesting to do, like playing another game, and forget about it as if it has never happened."

This is not how it works in CS GO competitive, if you leave you are the one that gets a ban from matchmaking, you are forced to stay till the end. For many other games (or on a community server) it's not issue, you just go to another server but that's not always possible.

And it doesn't matter if it's just a game and you didn't achieve a thing, we play games in our free time to relax or whatever and a cheater ruins the experience for others who also spend their money/time on it. Having fun in your free time is just as important as the rest of your life.

This sentence here is exactly why your view seems retarded. what exactly would this accomplish? i have a ban that is almost 10 years old. Back then the only games on steam were HL and mods (well mostly anyway). So even if they banned that account i could've simply made a new one and continued to cheat on that one. It makes no sense, it just fucks thigns up for us that learned from our mistakes and never cheated again. If the cheater's whole account got banned he'd simply make multiple accounts for the game he's planning to cheat in. So your incredibly narrow-minded idea of punishment would achieve NOTHING to help prevent cheating.

If people cheat (do drugs) on real life games like football, soccer, cycling they get bans too and even pay harsh fees. So I don't care if it is a "virtual" Game or not. I never said publish stuff without permission. If you keep your stuff to yourself, no one can stop you from doing what you want -.-

You might want to learn what copyright restrictions entail.

Depends on the model being used. If you swap the models on the other teams so that they are bright neon yellow and thus easier to spot in a dark map, then you might not be a modder, but just a cheater.

In the end, it's about making sure everyone is on the same level playing field. If you see something others do not, that's been ruined.

Yeah what i said was just general, and more about VAC. Of course, i agree with everything you said, as long as everyone is equal on the GAMEPLAY, it's all fine.

Just add it to your giveaway description then you're protected against having to actually gift the game in the event that someone with a VAC ban wins. I don't really agree with your policy for numerous reasons and I hope it isn't implemented by Steamgifts but there's nothing to stop you putting it in your own descriptions.

The rule has to be approved by support first.

You can't add special rules to public giveaways. He can just make private giveaways and advertise them on the forum if he wants to keep certain people out.

In public giveaways you can't make any restrictions... For private giveaways you can ask the support people to approve your special restrictions, and they will re-roll if someone you're restricted wins the giveaway. But in public giveaways you won't get a re-roll.

Obviously you aren't forced to give the game to the winner, but you have to accept the consequences of not sending the game to someone after you've said you would...

No offence, not defending anyone stupid enough to cheat in multiplayer games or anything, but this thread reeks of butthurt. There's no need to act like people who have been vac banned in random game x are sex offenders that just moved on your street. What's next? Putting a red mark next to their name on the forums? Like others have said the ban is punishment enough and you can't know that they've not "changed their ways"(lol) and stopped being stupid.

You're free to take the -1 if you don't wanna gift to a specific person, you would not be the first one :)

Yes because those are the only games people hack in and because the games you see in my steam library must be the only games i play right? Trust me, you get just as upset running into a retarded hacker in MMOs in PvP. Difference is normal people should and do move on, not stay butthurt4life. That was my whole point.

You're welcome.

Only realise that this game key was protected with new VACBanScan, a fantastic technology that, if you ever cheat, sends an entire squadron of explosive-laden ducks to bomb your face. Because, you know, reasons...

That's ok then, i would never cheat. If i'm bad at something i just do what every self respecting nerd does, quit and never talk of it again :)
