So why don't more people make a russian steam account and buy the games as gifts and gift them to their main account? Cause you'd need a VPN?

Some people do, but it takes more than a Russian Steam account created via VPN. You also need a way to pay for the games, and a US Paypal account connected to a US credit card/US bank account doesn't work... :)

Interesting parts of the article, but (as the article also mentions) the pricing is so inconsistent that it doesn't really shed any real light. The bit about Russian pricing is such a dated view and doesn't explain why places like China, where it is almost impossible to find real console games and DVD, do not receive the same treatment.

By the way, I don't mind other markets getting better pricing. However, I think the abuse of Russian and Brazilian pricing will lead to a massive return to regional locking, which I find sad and concerning.

Anyway, very interesting article. Thank you for sharing.
