I don't know which one to buy. I really don't care about the graphics. (I heard that you can't fast travel in Morrowind)

~I bought Oblivion. Most of you think that it's bad choice, but it was best for me. I wanted to play Skywind, but my current laptop wouldn't run it. I'll buy Morrowind when I get new PC (Around the summer sale) and play it (and enjoy it ;) ) Thanks to everyone for help and here, take a giveaway :)

If you have Skyrim and get Morrowind, you can install the Morrowind remake mod, called Morroblivion, and play that instead of old Morrowind.

So there is a Morrowind mod for Skyrim? (Yes, I have Skyrim)

I didn't played this mod, but seems it's a remake full name "Morroblivion: The Resurrection of Morrowind | Bringing Morrowind Back to Life", you must have both games as it was saying somewhere.

Morrowblivion would be the Morrowind in Oblivion mod. THe Skyrim mod is called Skywind.
I'm not sure Skywind is finished, or at least in a properly playable state.

It's not. They only recently released the second developer diary. I think we'll be waiting a while before we get a playable version.

But you can also wear Boot of Blinding Speed + Resist Magicka and run around the world like 10x faster than in the more recent ES games.

Also you can craft jumping scrolls that let you fly across the continent faster than fast travel loading screens take.

Morrowind of course (if you really don't care about graphics, because it's a little old by todays standards)!

Seriously guys? He asked MORROWIND OR OBLIVION not anything about Skyrim. (>ლ)

I would recommend Morrowind. I honestly don't give a second thought into graphics, and I think Morrowind has the better story (and gameplay).

OP already own Skyrim, so it might be useful to tell him that he can play Morrowind / Oblivion as mods in Skyrim, thus enjoying the original story with better graphics.

Thou you're right that some replies in this thread don't answer the M / O question at all :P

I went to official website of SkyWind and MorrOblivion and you need both games to play them.

Morrowind.
You can't fast travel, but there are silt striders which can transport you between towns. Also, there is fast travel mod.

Depends. Graphics isn't the only difference between the two. Fast travel exists in Morrowind, but only in a very restricted form, you can only fast-travel from town to town.

If you want a good story and depth and don't have a problem with a stiff, mostly empty world, go for Morrowind. If you want a nice open-world experience and don't care about story and dialogue, Oblivion is the way to go.

btw, if you decide for Morrowind and got a decent PC, you should definitely check out the MGSO mod.

Morrowind is, in my opinion, by a wide margin the best in the series. Yes, Oblivion is a very fun and good game in its own right, but it just can't stand up to the depth and comparative originality of Morrowind.

It's a bit off topic, but I actually think that voiceover has kinda ruined big RPGs. The need to both pay VAs (often in multiple languages) to act every line, and also to fit every line of recorded dialog into a limited amount of space (yes, obviously not as big a problem with DD today, but it was with Oblivion's 4.3gb disc), causes a severe limitation to the depth of a game. Until voice simulation becomes a thing (a long, long way out), I think that open world RPGs like The Elder Scrolls will be incapable of reaching the heights of Morrowind again.

With regard to fast travel: Yeah, by default you can't do the anywhere-to-anywhere from the map fast travel like in Oblivion or Skyrim. But the boat/silt strider/teleportation systems work pretty well, and overall I found the fast travel in Morrowind to be more rewarding, and it didn't suck me out of the game as much.

tl;dr: Buy Morrowind. It's the best.

Okay, another question. I play Skyrim with some mods, low setting and 1280x720 res (Really nice on my laptop) and get about 15 FPS. What could be my FPS in Morrowind with MGSO. Laptop specs: 1.00 Ghz APU-C50, Radeon HD 6250, 2 GB RAM

100fps? it's an Xbox 1 era game, so the gfx are low by today's standards.
Once you start adding gfx mods, then same look and fps as Skyrim.

" I really don't care about the graphics."
Not important. You can make the gfx in Morrowind better than a stock install of Skyrim.

Cyrodiil has beautiful nature, but its a boring life there.. Skyrim and Morrowind are superior to Oblivion and with mods you can make Morrowind look really pretty.

Fast-Travel in Morrowind is nicely embedded into the gameworld. There are different travel-services (Siltstriders, Boats, Mages Guild) that will get you from city to city and you can get teleport spells to freely choose a spot you can teleport to any time you want.. I like that system a lot better than direct fast-traveling and I´m glad they implemented travel-services again in Skyrim, so you can choose not to break your immersion with the "click-on-map"-fast-traveling.. in Oblivion you had to use mods for this.

While I understand that map fast travel is immersion breaking, it still saves you a lot of time!

Yeah, I think they did absolutely right by putting in both systems in Skyrim. Some people like the quicker direct-fast-travel better and some like more immersion (plus all the adventures you´re stumble uppon by accident when you dont use fast-travel ;) ). Its best to leave this up to the players.. not sure if Morrowind has a direct-fast-travel mod, but I believe even if you´d like it better that way, the original tavel-system won´t destroy your fun and only be a minor nuisance.

But if comfortable & time-saving extras are important to you, the missing quest-compass and map-markers might be a problem.. in Morrowind you have to read the quest-descriptions and follow landmarks to find the dungeons and other places you need to go.. that again is great for immersion, but also very time consuming and even though I still love that about Morrowind, there where some very frustrating moments (Dwemer Puzzle Box anyone?).

Morrowind, it's by far the best of the Elder Scrolls RPGs. There's also a ton of mods to upgrade the graphics to today's standards...

If you want to be really hardcore go for Morrowind. The world is absolutely huge and the game is hard as all hell. Oblivion is a little more player friendly: a lot shorter and easier to play.

Morrowind= good game, hard and punishing as hell, and you have to read alot... and I mean alot

Oblivion= good game, kinda easy and as punishig as morrowind and you had a whole dlc of shealgorath!

No fast travel is really only a minor downside to Morrowind, as the exploration is part of what makes it fun; (plus if you're really hard-pressed for it, it's possible you can find a mod to give you that feature). Graphics aren't an issue, and you can even find lots of quality texture replacers to fix aspects of that if you need to, such as Better Bodies. If you love story then Morrowind is the best one to go on for sure. Plus it has a lot of awesome mods such as Abandoned Flat, Morrowind Abodes, Tamriel Rebuilt, Mournhold Expanded, ones that add creatures and Children of Morrowind, etc. (There was one, something like Aladdin's Bottle that was a portable home in a genie bottle).

When it comes to Oblivion... I heard that there's some strange feature where when you get stronger the creatures around you do too. I don't like that, if I'm very strong I don't want giant mutant rats who can still beat the crap out of me, that just doesn't make sense. Well that's my thoughts. :)

They are both great, but you gotta play Morrowind if you've never done so. I've played through Morrowind and the expansions three or four times, whereas with Oblivion, once was enough. It might be kind of hard to get into...but stick with it, and don't be afraid to start over a time or two once it finally clicks.

If you don't have a lot of patience (it takes longer to "get into" than Oblivion and as stated, there is a lot of reading) then Oblivion may be a safer choice.
