I was thinking about that and it doesn't make sense at all.

Let's take a look at some Humble Bundle games beyond average. You have to pay nearly 7$ to get those two games before average. When you make giveaways of them you get 0$ as contributor value. But let's take a look at Crazy Machines Bundle at the Indie Gala Store. It's not marked as bundle games (why would they? It's a store and the bundle is as much a bundle as 2K Games or THQ Bundles on Amazon). Now, for 1$ you can get two games that are worth on Steam 20$ total. So for 1$ you can get 20$ worth contributor points. Now, let's do some math. For 20$ you can get as much as 400$ contributor points. When I first noticed that I was like "I can do that, that's a good way to give games away AND gain some contribute value". But then I realized that, IMO, that would be taking advantage of the system. Yeah, we all do that because we never buy full priced games. But this one would be bought at 95% discount and it's a "bundle" so I don't even know if admins know about it and that's why they didn't mark it as bundle or not.

My point? It's all confused and not working well. There are loopholes through which people can get a lot of contribute value by paying a small price but games from normal bundles that are actually worth more (HB beyond average) are counted as 0$.

The bundles system should be upgraded somehow is all I'm saying.

Just my two cents.

Same applies to Amazon's bundles which aren't even available outside USA...

What about bethesda new year collection? Or amazon bundles? Don't blame russians for steam store glitches.

The contributor value isn't perfect but it works for bundles, else the contributor value must be lowered because almost all games here are bought on sale (and some sales are even -90%).

And about you Humble Bundle BTA thing: The rules of Humble Bundle forbid the sharing of keys, when you follow the rules and give the whole bundle away you get the full contributor value, there is no problem.

Come with a better idea when you don't like the current system.

I'm not saying I don't like it. I just think it's flawed and it's easy to "abuse". Just saying, throwing my two cents.

mostly that your op wasn't read ;) so he replied thinking you were saying people could abuse asterisked games or something.

but talking about that post: crazymachines was much more of a bundle, it was pay what you want, min $1, bta for the other 2 ect.

so how'd this get bumped anyway? lol

It is flawed but it's IMO the best system we can get now. Try to make a system that is good enough but that also isn't flawed without making crazy rules that nobody would understand.

It's working for bundles and that's for what the bundle value is. Read my comment above and tell me how you would solve that problem.

No you don't. You get the price you pay, not the value, which is completely unlike giving away non-bundle games. It's a disincentive to give away bundles.

There are many questions about sg and bundles, example: i bught games for my group from steam, but when i giveaway they qualify as bundles -.- how the hell u know its a bundle :P
so i basically, loose all the friggen time contr.

There is a bundle list somewhere and moreover bundled games are marked with an asterisk next to its name in the dropdown menu.

yh but, what about the gitable copys ?
ive bought mnay copies of wizorb, puzzle agent, darksiders and metro on greenman gaming etc. which have been in bundles, but the problem is, even the ciftable copyes are listed as bundle games, SG should have a option, before creating a giveaway, where it says: either a key or giftable copy. If u win a giftable copy giveaay and the owner gives you a key, just mark as not recieved :P

I think that you wont like the day when you hit 1000$ contr. and then someone makes a bundle out of these games and your value drops to 300$.
Be real!

If you gained a value it doesn't drop because a game was put in a bundle. It doesn't work backwards so don't worry!

The bundle thing is not retroactive for example I gave away two copies of Snapshot before it was in Humble Bundle and I got full contributor from it. So no worries on that.

On the other side you have a point with that saying if it's a giftable copy or not, but that could be easily exploited IMHO.

What I'm missing is a reasonable value for bundles. If an HIB OTA bundle had, say, a 50P value, then people would have given it as a bundle. Doesn't have to be the full value of the games, but something reasonable which would encourage giving away full bundles. Having the bundle give points equal to its average price is IMO the wrong way to give it a value.

If they just do the lazy way it would be fine too since a bundle implies more than 1 game

Just decrease the base values of certain games for all exploited games over 95% off by decreasing the value to heeheh (as long as it isnt a price mistake that no one could actually buy)

Could not care too much, but if they adjusted the values it would all change

Still rather have a seperate amount of public and group giveaways

Yeah I know necro, whatever

I agree they need to prevent people from abusing the system, but why not just request the receipt? Better yet since I know I wouldn't give it to them, why not just give us a small little boost? Kinda dumb I do not get awarded for giving away some games I do not need for a bundle when I can turn around and be greedy about it instead.

curses. somebody replied and bumped this(apparently by accident), then deleted their post so now it looks like I am the one who bumped a 2 week old necro'd month old thead. but I didn't, I only posted here because somebody else just bumped it lol

I never use the search function or even visit the forum really, I just reply on what shows in that little box with 5 threads in it on the bottom of the givaway feed so how else would I find this.

So a cap should be applied on the amount of the same game that can be giveaway? Or what could be a good solution? To add something useful.

umm, well since you're asking me for some reason....(first thing off the top of my head so probably full of holes(but tbh I feel like I probably read it somewhere here, so real credit goes to random possibly nonexistant but probably does forum guy))I guess maybe have it based on the number of givaways active for that item within a certain time span? that way it'd force people to spread things out which is alot of the old complaints about bundles spamming up the givaway feed....it'd get what they miss like the crazymachine thing(and bonus, it works on the super low sales too(so if you want full credit for your 90% off sale game you have to pay attention and not just be part of the wave of givaways from others doing the same) which could make cv a bit more meaningful), and if you're holding onto an old key from a year ago may as well give points for it since that much later it'd be more a welcome surprise than an annoyance.(yeah, after typing it I'm this much more sure I read it from somebody else)

but I'm not the op so it really wasn't my issue anyway, he probably has different idea

Thanks for pointing out the obvious loopholes that others have mentioned multiple times. If you wanted to be helpful, a suggestion as to how to remedy this would have been much more beneficial.
