Takes some time to find something ''valuable'' like a hat or something like that, since the system is random you'll probably only find weapons and crates... as an example, my first hat drop was at 500 hrs of gameplay. Items can be dropped on any day of week and on any map. And finally, the game has a limit of drops, once you reach it you must wait until Thursday so it can be restarted.

TL;DR: You will only find crap.

In my 200ish hours of gameplay, I only got a few hats and 2 paint cans which amounted to about 7 ref*(Enough for a key at the time)
I haven't unboxed any crates yet but I doubt I will land an Unusual on my first go.(Super rare hats which are extremely expensive)
