I've seen people near or over level 100 that have less games than me, less years on their account, and only 10 or so more badges crafted than me. My level is only 52 though.

Max badge level of 5, except for the uncapped Sale badges. Level is pretty unimportant anyway.

I only want to increase my level to get more booster pack drops. And I know u can craft for games you don't own, but a 10 badge difference doesn't give you 50 levels.

You have a lot of L1 badges, do they? Or do they have L5 badges everywhere?

Eliminate the middleman, and just flush your money down the toilet... :)

The money you get from selling booster packs is less than the money you spent to get a higher steam level... :)

But if you're serious about making more badges, I suggest waiting until the winter sale - assuming things don't change, instead of coupons you'll get a winter card with each badge. Sell those.

Hyup.

Sell those cards early in the event, then buy them back later for 1/4 the price. ;)

As it stands, you'd probably be money ahead just selling all the cards for credit then to craft badges to get more XP to get more booster packs. Of course if everybody did this, noone would get booster packs, so feel free to ignore my advice and craft like crazy! I'll appreciate those extra boosters. :)

Thanks for the tips. I have a job so I'm not really worried about profiting on marketplace. It's more of a cheap experiment that occupies some downtime. I know it's stupid to some people, but people spend money on dumb stuff they don't need everyday.

If I could follow my own advice, I would have saved a lot of money during the summer sale... :) I suggest setting a budget for crap like badges, i.e. only spend X per week on them, and force yourself to follow it. Otherwise it's very easy to make buy orders for all your missing cards, without thinking about how much money you are flushing away... If you buy enough of them, it really adds up... :)

Also, I haven't paid close attention to how often booster packs appear, but it doesn't feel like there's much difference between level 10 and level 100.

Yep setting a budget is a great idea. In sept I only spent around 1 % of what I make in a month on marketplace so it's not like I'm dumping pay checks into this.

It just means they crafted a lot of the event (sale) badges, e.g. Steam Summer Adventure, which have uncapped levels. They can get thousands of XPs from those.

Why would you spend a ton of money to get a tiny fraction of a percentage increase in drops that are only worth $0.25 on average?

bragging rights

sounds stupid (maybe IS stupid), I know (and believe me, I'd normally take money over high levels) but during the previous summer sale I became FANATICALLY obsessed with them

+1! I can't understand why is it good, that people have over 100 Steam levels! If I get some cards from games, I'd rather trade them for a bundle game than making a badge. I made 3 badges only. 1 because it was my first (PAYDAY 2), and 2 because of the summer sale (Defy Gravity Extended and CS: GO) I have 247 games right now, and I'm pretty sure that at least 75 of them is what I got from cards :D

This is correct. Just buy the cards, then like magic you will have the badge show up ready for crafting. I have done it, so I know that is 100% correct. There is even a site that tells you the lowest cost cards, forget the name of it, try Google "steam trading cards lowest prices" or list. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Also, buy cheap bundle games. Work them for the card drops, then you only have to buy a few more to finish the badges. After level 50 its not worth it in my opinion.

I recommend this one, Steam Card Exchange, and not the one with a weird name, something like eshankia... It has better UI in my opinion.

was it this site?

it proved to be an invaluable tool for me during the summer sale, it allowed me to calculate how much it would take for me to finish a badge, and my strategy was to buy cards, finish the badge, and sell the resultant summer sale card such that I made a net profit

as you can see, this resulted in me having badges for crap games like Dysan the Shapeshifter and Dead Bits...but whatever

(yes I know I could have made more money from actually selling the rest of the set, but I don't quite care as much for that :P and it's so tedious anyway)

I fail to see the allure completely, well, apart from trading....Some users will only trade with someone with a well-established account; Level, Amount of games, they won't trade with new users with a few free games in their account, and rightfully so! Bloody scamming foreign dildos

I just craft badges for games I like. So like how I liked Hitman: Absolution, I crafted a badge for that because it's a game that I like. Other than that, I don't really care. To be honest i'm annoyed that I got level ten. Because whenever I visit my profile (which I do frequently) there's this showcase thing I hate there. And if I change it to unspecified, yeah other people can't see it. But whenever I see my profile page logged on as me. I see "ERRRRRMERGURD. YOU SHOULD TOTALLY PUT SOMETHING HERE" (I don't actually see that) and it's annoying. Minds as well put something there.

i'm a level 21 and the few reasons that i crafted badges were as follows:

-i had the cards already. might as well finish the set.
-oh cool. i got a booster pack. might as well finish that set too.
-that badge looks cool. better craft it.
-people seem to trust me a bit more with my steam level higher than 10. better double that.
-got a few cents left over after a great deal. might as well use em on some badges.

??? WTF I have over 800 Games and not crafted one single Batch, always selling Cards on the market after i receive them. I don´t have a clue how this sort of e-penis can be helpful in any case. Btw. it´s nice that someone buys that Cards. Good for my wallet to buy some more games, and also Steam is very happy about this extra Profit for giving away some Pixels.

You´re right, but what can I do with that badges? I can Play the games. But I don´t know anything more useless than a virtual Card or badge. Sorry I know my opinion is not very popular and it´s my subjectiv sight and I don´t want to hurt anybody, but I absolutely can´t understand that Hype for getting an Icon or Badge and paying Money for that.

Over 800 games that you probably don't even really play and just idle them for trading cards. You're wasting a ton more money than I. Everyone has something stupid they spend money on. I don't see why you would get so angry with how I spend my money.

Sorry mate, I don´t get angry with you, I just don´t get it. Yes I´m a collector of games (not just Steam). You (and everybody else) can do with your Money what you want, but I (personally) didn´t see anything useful in it, maybe I´m too old for understanding this (Don´t get this wrong it´s no offence!!! that anyone here´s too young). For me it´s like somone says he´s collecting stones or teethbrush or old socks or anything like this, maybe nice Hobby for that Person, but like I said I don´t get it.
