I usually expect it unless it's a game I think where the host may not actually have the key. Say assassins creed black flag or WARZ or something. I usually don't enter those cause I don't care for triple A titles or the titles everyone seems to be interested in. Most of the games I want to try out seem to be in the humble bundles. So I never have any worries that I won't get the key.

Same. I don't really enter many giveaways these days. Not sure why. Usually check out the forums first, and sometimes head over to the giveaways page almost as an afterthought...

WHAT KEEPS ME GOING?
YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT KEEPS ME GOING?!
Dunno, I just don't like spending my moneyz is I have a 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000042 chance of getting it for free. :V
Just enter giveaways for games that you'd actually like to win, and don't expect to win. That's it, bruh.

Already do.
Sorry, just been having a REALLY crappy couple of months and not winning anything isn't making me feel better.
Oh, and by the way, please don't friend me on steam and try to give me a free game. If I didn't win it here or earn it by being fast enough for a free key, then I don't want it. It's been tried. Unfortunatly, I HAVE to believe in fair play.

Yeah, I guess I can understand how you feel. I have OCD (not the one that makes you want to put things in order... the one that gives you thoughts in your head that aren't technically yours), and having the low self-esteem that I have, I keep having the false sensation that I may win the game I've been craving for so long here... then I don't, keep a straight face, but my mood goes a bit down each time.
And thinking of going back with ex-bf (who has AIDS) just because he's the only person that has given two shits about me, even if it's maybe just because he's a nymphomaniac.
So, yeah, low self-esteem and gambling is a bitch combination, buddy.

I don't focus on the entry number, I just enter games I want and cross my fingers that I get one. I know people who enter as many low-entry games they can so the chances of winning is higher but what's the point of winning a game you're not interested in at all? I've been pretty lucky and won a giveaway with 1k entries and 3k entries but I was pleasantly surprised when I won after I looked at how many entries there had been. Just don't look at the number! If you get a free game then awesome! .. if not you haven't lost anything in the meantime.

I know the chances are extremely low, but it only takes 3-5 minutes at day use your points (even if you're being selective with your entries). I'm not really hoping to win something great, or win anything at all. But who knows, maybe you get lucky and win something nice. Besides is great to giveaway your unwanted or spare stuff, you know "your trash, could be someone else gold" (or something like that). If you come to SG expecting to win great games without expending money all the time, then you got it wrong...

3825 Entries; 10 Wins
If i have 0,00000001% of chance to win, so i have a chance xD
Sorry my bad grammar.

Iunno, it's fun using my points. I just click my middle mouse key and it opens the link on a new tab. Then I use all of my points on these games I want a chance to get in on and then yeah. That's it. Took a couple of minutes and it wasn't bad. I usually don't think about the games i've entered. I usually never enter games with 800+ entrants. But nowadays i'm having trouble finding games i'd actually want to enter that have lower than that requirement XD So I just go buckwild. I'm pretty sure the only time where doing this task is discouraging is if you keep thinking about all the games you lose. I never think about it. I just enter and then go do my own thing on the internet after checking the forums for any interesting topics.
Then you'll suddenly just win a game one day and you'll be like "oh, cool." I've gotten really humble about it honestly XD I mean if there's a game you really want on SG. Just make it your goal to get a chance in all the offerings of that game, at least then you can't say you didn't try.
The only discouraging losses I ever encounter on SG for me now is featured giveaways. It's a real bummer when I lose one of those. I mean I know the odds. But it's right in my face everytime I log into SG and I just want to win it cause it's in-front of my face the entire time. (Unless it's a featured giveaway I don't want or I know I wouldn't play or at least not for long. Then I don't enter.)

Nothing to lose, that's what keeps me going. This site takes like 5 minutes out of my day and that's it for what still amounts to a chance of winning something at some point. I don't really care if I lose giveaways, all that matters is that I could one day win something again.

Well, for me, I registered on this site for 2 reasons. First one overshadows the other - I simply can't afford any games right now and I thought it may be a good idea to get a game or two I want from some generous folks aroud. Second reason - I got a game which I did't like, I knew I wouldn't play it at all, so I decided to give it away here.
Now, after three weeks here I've given away a game, entered like 400 giveaways, won a great game(Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY). I'm not in any group, and I don't really qualify and probably never will qualify to join any, but that doesn't bother me. Like pholly up there said - "you gotta be in it to win it." Before joining SteamGifts I have NEVER EVER won anything in my life.
Well, I wish I win something else someday. The chances are slim. There are just two games on my wishlist, so it shouldn't be that hard :D Now I'm delusional... Must be the heat, hahaha :D

Well I've actually pretty much stopped entering giveaways, if I come across a private one for a game I want I'll enter it, but I just don't enter any of the public giveaways anymore because I feel I have enough unplayed games to last me a very long time, so I don't need any more. Might as well let others gamble for them instead :)
Still trawl the forums though :D

Because.... it isn't really about the winning. Yeah, it is cool to win, but I joined here to also do giveaways and just have a site to wander once in a while that wasn't related to fb, tumblr, or my art and writing. A place to go, to just mindlessly wander (and sometimes laugh, like at the guy who tried to give away 50 keys to Loadout here in the forum a little while back).
I am in no groups and never plan to join any because I don't want to and do not care to deal with group politics. I may MAKE one, for those unlucky folk who have been here a bit, entered lots of giveaways, but never won (this ties in with my current private giveaway of Skyrim LE).
Here for just over 3 months and for being here only that long, and having entered 1426 giveaways, I have won 4 times. And all 4 times, it was something I was happy to win. It wasn't some overly expensive game, or lots of entries into them, or some AAA title. All were medium to small in size and just simple little things.
I have also done 19 giveaways of games to date, with two more to be added to that soon enough. I have also done a few random key drops in the forums for shits & giggles. I have selected a couple people to send gifts to because reasons. I have made 2 friends in my time here; people that will actually stay on my normally tiny list of friends, not people added for giveaways that will be deleted later.
For many here (at least those active in the forums to some degree) it isn't really about "OMG!!!!!!! FREEEEE GAMEZ! Must enter them all so I can win! Gimmegimmegimmme!!!" We come because it is something to do, because we like to chat with other gamers in a relaxed environment, because we like to do random keydrops and puzzle giveaways and special giveaways. We come because of a hundred different reasons. We enter giveaways if we want, sometimes just to get rid of points and because something looks interesting. And yeah, don't win most, but don't care. Seriously, there are over half a million users on SG. Granted, there may be 10k-100k, if not more, who aren't really here anymore or active. Just look at the stats at the bottom of the page. Lots of members, an average of 500-1200 trying to win the same game. Sometimes you win alot, sometimes you have dry spells. THAT is called life in general. The internet does not change that shit at all.

I can't say how much I agree with everything you just said. Thumbs up to you.

^_^ Thanks. Was just pretty much saying what is true and what I have observed in my few months here. Anyone took the time to read the forums and comments, they'd see it to.
He's complaining about a little dry spell, when there are people on here, that I have seen, with 4k+ entries or here a yr or two, and no wins. At least he has WON something (7x).

I'm not on Steamgifts for the giveaways. Sure, a free game once in a while is welcome, but I don't enter public giveaways anymore as I used to, as it is a waste of time.
Now, I only stay around the Steamgifts forums. It has become my main page, and I just leave Steamgifts forum open all day, along with the group's chat.
And to answer a few of your questions, no, I never gave up and never will. I know that winning a giveaway is very unlikely to happen, so I just enter giveaways (private, mostly) and then forget about them. I won't wait for the giveaway to finish, expecting a win. But I keep entering giveaways, and I must say that I've won quite a few since I'm on Steamgifts.
And about a game I REAAALLY want, I just buy it myself or find a way to acquire it (Tremor Games, stuff like that).

Sounds like me on a site I don't know if I can mention here that I've been a member since 2001. Yes I'm showing my age. >_<

People who are given odds against them and choose to cower before it are just losers, not realists. "I can't win unless it's just me and 3 other people circle jerking gifts to each other privately" - That's what all of these 'giveaway groups' have become these days and that's why they suck.
I like having the odds against me and overcoming them. It's a much better feeling winning the 1/1000 than entering a 2 person giveaway and getting a handout. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

IMHO giveaway groups are essentially trade groups. It's dumb.

And I know I'm probably one of the 1/2 of a percent that isn't in one. But how do you keep going with entries knowing that the chance to win is slim to none in open GA's?
Yes I know I have had 7 wins, but now, almost 3700 entries and nothing in the past almost 1200 entries gets a bit discouraging, doesn't it? Especially if it's a game you REALLY want and the GA has very few entrants. Maybe it's because I'm a realist and know I won't win again. Maybe I'm just too stupid to give up, and yes I know people are going to comment on the stupid part, but I DON'T CARE ANYMORE!
What keeps you going?
