This guy doesn't have a steamtrades/gifts account but he lurks around and adds people to scam. He makes a really good offer and then asks you to go first then logs off. I got Mad Riders and Stalker SoC scammed. His steam he used was hanibaL but he probably has alts. So avoid hanibaL if he adds you and tries to trade with you, don't. Instead, talk to him for a few minutes, stall for a while, and take like 10 minutes to reply each time to piss him off and waste his time, then in the end, send him a fake key and leave. Anyways here's a pastebin http://pastebin.com/m38d17WP I'm just really mad right now.

There is never a reason to go first with a SteamGift.

Trading with keys is bad anyway. Would'nt do it at all, too risky.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not that bad actually. I've traded with keys a couple of times before. But you do have to be very careful.

1 decade ago

as have I. like you said you just have to be careful and do your homework

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Careful. Yea. It's just pretty hard to trust anyone unknown on the internet.

It's also part of the reason I would never make a Giftaway for a Gamekey. Just because the winner can activate the key on a different account and tell me the key did'nt worked and wants another one. And there is probably nothing I could do against it.

It is hard indeed. But their behaviour or previous feedback can help you a lot.

Anyways, it's true that the risk is always there but you can get good results if you manage it properly.

why would you go first with someone who has no references/rep? :(

Edit: here's his profile for anyone that would like to block him (as I have done)

as you can see that means nothing & it may as well be bait. never trade for keys with anyone that has no references, no rep, and no visible trade history. looking at the chat log, I would also call into question anyone who says they can't sign up for a Steamgifts or Steamtrades account because they don't have $100 worth of games. yea, maybe sometimes they might be legit but it's not worth the risk

This. If they've no rep, never go first.

Report him at steamrep. Too bad that did happened that's why i try to trade keys only after receiving the game/key first, or at least try to give only 1 key first and then making him to give the game and then give out any other key (if you do 2:1 or more).

I saved a couple of people though, I checked his friends list and added them and told them not to trade with hanibaL. One guy told me hanibaL offered him Max Payne 3 for some cheap game lol.

I'm sorry to hear that, but this is Steamgifts. There's a reason I don't spend time on Steamtrades and that's because I don't want to hear about all the crap involved with trading.

Tell Valve with proof of chat and so on, they may ban the other guy and remove the game and the key will be ready to use again. This happened to a friend so not 100% if it will work.

I wonder why nobody tries to retrieve account back when trying to redeem that key on steam, you have the receipt after all so you have proof that game is yours and steam might block/remove his key and give it back to you or something (I heard steam can revoke key, so you could try that), or even ask refund on amazon or steam to get the keys removed from him since I heard of people refunding their games that they gave away on this site and winners end up with losing the won game, I never tried to trade or got scammed yet but you can bet you ass I'd do everything imaginable to get that key back and ban that fucker who scammed me, also don't try to flame mm'kay?

Still, it's proof that key is his, though now it's up to Steam to either return the key or not bother with it.

I don't really care about the mad riders, I'm more concerned about the STALKER game.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Since, I assume, you bought STALKER from that bundle on Amazon, you have a lot of proof that CD key is yours like email confirming your purchase, Amazon game library showing STALKER and its Steam product key, and you can claim it back by contacting Steam support, tell them that you can provide proof that CD key is yours and they should take care of it.

Great, just waste his time. Pretend you are trading and then take like 10-15 minutes to respond each time and also say you have to eat dinner, or walk your dog or something to make him wait. Then just play a game or something while leaving the chat on. Then after a long time send him a made up fake key. He'll be excite but then find out it's fake. Then just leave. :)

Golden rule - don't trust people who can't properly speak english.

1 decade ago

Personally I wouldn't even consider accepting a Steam invite from someone unable to recite their own national anthem in at least five different languages (one of those being Esperanto).

Not true. I don't speak that much of english but I'm trustable (although I've never done any trades, just saying based on my rep here on SG). That sounds somewhat xenophobe.

In the future, ask for a reputable middleman to use in a trade, if he doesn't want to do it with a middleman, he's probably a scammer.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Just a side note, select the middleman from a trust worthy source! I have talked with this steam guy that says he got scammed and the user who scammed him selected the middle man, which was one of his scammer friends! and ripped this guy off. He refuses to go first as he was scammed, but I am not going to go first with someone that has no rep on steamtrades, so... you see, be careful even if the other party agrees to a middle man.

Does steam allow cd key trading? If I contact them with proof of my purchase can they revoke the cd key?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

not officially. they make it a point to say do not trade keys for this exact reason, because it's not part of their trading system. doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with doing it though. i have no idea if they can revoke keys or not... never had a reason to ask about it.

1 decade ago

AFAIK no. Someone else will have to confirm with proof though.

My best advice is to never trade CD keys, NEVER.

If you actually get the game as a gift in your steam inventory then you both will be able to trade the things at same time but with CD keys it's ALWAYS risky and there's like 70% that it's a scam.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

wow you are great at imagining percentages... you imply that you dont trade keys and for some strange reason you seem to know how do it venture nowadays retardGenious

You just need to check steamrep and steamtrade profiles and someothers safeguards to trade keys... I already did lots of keys trading and never got scammed!

1 decade ago
Permalink

CD keys are probably the first thing where people get scammed therefore I'm warning them not to trade CD keys since it's an easy way of getting scammed if you're going first.

How can steamrep already mark the scammer as scammer if it's his first time scamming?

1 decade ago
Permalink

You also get people who say "oh your code didn't work looks like the deal is off/send me another one" that they can use to trade again or give to their friends.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I have a +40 rep on steamtrades, and I'd say 35 or more were for key:key trades.

They are almost never scams, just make sure you know who you're trading with, and make sure they have good rep. If they don't, force them to go first.

1 decade ago
Permalink

I have traded a bunch of keys on steam trades and all the time people kept their part. Applying the: "whoever has less rep goes first" rule is a good thing to do.

Also, never trade in a hurry. It is way better to miss a deal too god to be true than being scammed.

Use steamtrades and also pay attetion on reviews of the users. There are some scammers there also, but It's safer.

When random people add you, don't add them, never trade first unless you know them. This way you never get scammed.
