I mostly play everything, but I can not stand racing sims or MMOs. However, I am rather fond of SRPGs and arcade-type racing games.

I love:
RPG
Hack & Slash: Diablo-Torchlight and so on
Atmosperic horror, for example Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of Earth
Platform games, including puzzle platformer and action-platformer genre
Bullet hell games
Survival (without horror-aspect: for example Neo Scavenger)
Few, non-competitive FPS games: Borderlands 1-2, Fallout 3-NV (alro RPG, but let's face it, gameplay is FPS/TPS)
Turn Based Strategie - long live Heroes of Might and Magic!
Terraria, Windforge - games with overall open world and lots of possibilities.
Don't like:
Real Time Strategy multiplayer: I know the best wins, but I simply don't like the rush/mass tactic. For example: Age of Mythology: villager rush vs massive battles with lategame mythical creatures... later is just more fun for me :)
Racing games, excluding Revolt and Lego Racers. "Simple" racing games are not too intresting for me.
Competitive multiplayer FPS: well, my laptop is not too strong to get high FPS, plus the fact that I suck at these games also don't help too much :P
Simulators: I love a simulation as an expression about something being lifelike, usually about difficulty. But I don't like the endless farming-trashcar-train-airplane-etc simulators.
JUMPSCARE HORROR GAMES
Sport games... I've played a little with fifa '98 demo back in my time, I liked it, but I didn't get hooked on the genre.

I like RPG, FPS, RTS, TBS, MOBA, action, action-RPG, action-adventure, fighting, survival-horror, puzzle, platformer, arcade racing.
What I don't like? Racing simulators, sports simulators(why the fuck would I want to play a tennis video-game instead of playing...I dunna...ACTUAL TENNIS????), simulators in general, adventure(point and click or otherwise), tactical military shooters, JRPG, casual games.

It's actually a sub-genre, just like tactical shooters.

I knew that there are going to be people like you so I put a little disclaimer in the post "obviously what constitutes as a genre might be different from person to person"
Please read first, then think and then comment thanks :)

I hate RTS, MOBA, Point and Click RPGs, not even mentioning all F2P games.

Like:
RPG

Fighting
Games with some sort of interesting story -or- games I can sit down and play for a few minutes in my spare time.
Dislike:
PUZZLE platformers - Why must they all have puzzles these days?
Puzzle games in general - mystery and/or "actual" puzzles (ie jigsaws) are ok. I suck at them so my whole experience is following a guide step-by-step.
Most of the new survival/horror games. They'd just end up giving me nightmares.
Racing games.
Most first person games. It's not really a genre, but most of them tend to make me sick pretty fast.

I like most genres, especially fps, rpg and point & click. I don't like most platformers, roguelikes and sports games. Simulators are mostly boring, as well as fighting games. Bullet Hell and sidescrollers are often either too difficult or not fun enough.

Not gonna bother with a full list since I tend to like a bit of (almost) everything, but my favorite genres are RPGs and strategy games. JRPG, WRPG, SRPG, ARPG, even MMORPG, I like them all. Same with strategy. Whether it's Grand Strategy, turn-based, real-time, tower defense, whatever.
Genres I don't like much are horror (most horror games are boring with maybe some jump scares which doesn't interest me), point-and-click adventure (there are some games in this genre I absolutely love like Grim Fandango, but most of them just don't interest me and I don't have the patience for pixel-hunting or "use everything on everything" style puzzles.
Then there are games I do enjoy, but I don't play them much because I really suck at them, like most platformers.

I actually like basically every genre. I don't know how people can keep playing the same genre's without mixing it up. Lol I have a huuge variety of games I play but if I had to dislike one it would most likely be sports (I basically play no sports games, but when I do I find them fun sometimes).

I like most genres, just not MOBAs, Walking simulators, and most sports games (old tony hawk games, MVP 2005, and Jet Set Radio being the exceptions). Also not a huge fan of racing sims or MMOs but I wouldn't say I dislike them.
I'd have to say my favorite genre would be JRPGs or Fighting even though I'm not incredibly good at fighting games. Those BBCP finals at evo tho.
