GTA5 by a long shot(out next month on pc), (the elder scrolls>)Oblivion(just don't use fast travel or you will ruin the game experience), Just Cause 2, Saints Row 2, Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, Fallout New vegas (although I'm not a fan of the shooting..limb selection pipboy thing)

And if you're like me and really like WW 2 and Irish people, you should also try out The Saboteur.

Is State of Decay any good? it's on sale for another day I think. I'm curious about map size, content, options, quests?..I've seen gameplay videos but open world games are hard to judge until you actually play them.

Risen (not too thrilled about the sequel and I haven't played the third one yet);

Far Cry series (haven't played any yet, but maybe you'd enjoy it).

I like Borderlands 2. You can find some interesting stuff if you pay attention to the details.

Morrowind

I have been playing Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. It's a similiar game to skyrim. Most of the Amalur players say that Skyrim is only better because of mods. In other aspects Amalur wins. I really like the fantasy setting in Amalur. It contains more lore for it's world and it's more colorful than Skyrim - I like it more for that.

Dark Souls have open world...

I ll sugest u How to Survive if u are into zombies survival crafting etc . Very decent game with quite a few dlc-s . One which expand campaing is el diablo islands dlc .

MINECRAFT HUEHUEHEUHEUEHUEHEUHUE

If you're looking for a great single player experience I recommend Dragon Age: Inquisition. While it isn't technically "Open World", it is Muli-region and very expansive. It's huge. Great RPG elements with a fantastic storyline. I've been completely obsessed with it since launch.

Keep in mind, these are only open world game I have played, quickly listed as best games first inaccurately. There are a ton more open world games out there.
