I've never had that happen when uninstalling Avast.
Also, I use a separate firewall. Though you could have kept to both.

Sounds like a user error rather than the AV program itself. I'm not sure you understood the purpose of "Avast Cleaner," nor how to run it properly.

I think that your files were infected, so Avast put it to the quarantine and when you uninstalled Avast- files vanished with the quarantine ;) That's all. I have used Avast for about three years and never had such problems. Install it again- it is a good tool, but remember to check quarantine before uninstalling next time.

I've only had issues once with it and it wasn't related to that. Avast has been pretty good to me over the years, though i'm using premium, got tired of switching antiviruses since i have to reconfig every single one of them in order to get access to my daily stuff.

Are you sure that Avast wipe out your files? If you not sure don't mave this topic, otherwise you should contact Avast support and send'em your system logs. I trust Avast for years.

I havent experienced that but last time i tried it I was very dissapointed with it. It was full of ads and came with a ton of 3rd party programs. Anyway I gave up on antiviruses. I just use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

They don't slow anything at all if you set them up correctly. I've been playing Crysis 3 on maxed out settings while AV was running in the background and not a thing was slowed down.

Thats true if you barley use your computer or use it just for work, but if you're a heavy internet user common sense wont save.

Pretty much this. There isn't a month in which my AV doesn't detect some kind of JAVA toolkits or trojans when visiting some sites. But then again some sites I visit are heavily loaded with shady ads so...
Besides, people cocky like that most of the time have viruses or trojans on their PC but just don't know it. My friend always used to boast that he doesn't need AV but then started complaining about his PC running very slow. He run some AV scan and malware scan and told me it found hundreds of different trojans and shit. So yeah, just because your PC runs fine now or just because everything seems normal doesn't mean you don't have any malware on your PC or that it's gonna be like this forever. Also, I don't understand the "prestige" some people seem to claim for not having an AV. Like it was something shameful to have one. I'd say this - having an AV is like having door in your home. Sure, if one wants to enter badly then one will but most will be stopped. But if you don't have a door then everything and everyone come in as they please.

I laugh so much omg, why You would need a firewall program XD Windows has Firewall, Your router has firewall. I'm using Avast since YEARS, never had ANY infection, all You need is common sense. If You don't have it, then it's Your problem XD LMAO

I dunno what you are laughing but it's not funny what happened to him. Also, you are talking about common sense... If you had it you wouldn't need a virus scanner at all. On top of that windows firewall blows big time and with the router you are confusing NAT with a firewall, it's not the same.

I'm laughing because it was written that whatever folder he will choose will be deleted permanently.
He must have chosen wrong one.
2nd thing, Yes I know Windows firewall is bad, I just don't feel the need to have firewall.
Aboow: You are wrong. Viruses are coming from everywhere. Hackers are even replacing good file with infected one.
Common sense without Antivirus would mean - not using the computer.
The whole topic is absolutely pointless. That's why I\m laughing.
I mean who reasonable would post things like that on giveaway forum XD.
It's his fault he didn't read the instructions. It's me laughing at people banging with their head on doors, when it says "Pull". People never read any signs, and never read any instructions :)
BTW Avast is easy to uninstall - You go to Control Panel and You click Uninstall.
You really don't need a "Special" program to do that.

Trust me, common sense won't save you if you visit tons of sites (especially ones with shady ads). People who are as cocky as you burn themselves sooner or later so have fun when your PC is infected with viruses and you lose important files.
Better safe than sorry. Always.

That is not true. You can turn off all the extra addons in the settings menu.
I don't need them. I just think they are made to annoy you and get you to buy the full version.
Avast Free is fine :)

I use nothing (no av at all) and never lost anything.
Well nothing isn't exactly true... 've been using and noscript+adblock and brain.exe ever since.
For most people though it is advisable to use av of some kind (which doesn't really matter too much in that case, so take the cheapest/most lightweighted imho, for e.g. malwarebytes is highly recommendable). Just be aware that it (any av software) doesn't magically render you safe, it only helps against exploits in software, not your own stupidity.

Buy Windows 8.1 and you got Windows guardian for free, installing anti viruses is like installing virus themselves.

LOL. Using it for years, best free AV on market and I'd tested AVG, Avira, Kaspersky and other before. I got another theory ^^ because it happend to me and I had to reinstall everything.
Normally u install a programm in C:Program Files'Name of Programm or whatever'. But I accidentally installed it in the main folder C:program-files, don't ask me why. However...I uninstalled it and it deleted the subfolders. ....So it was my fault ^^
Free is enough, I don't need more. I got 2 firewalls - Windows Firewall and an even better one in my router.

It was a problem with the feature on avast that "cleans" your browser of addons that might be risky.
Avast is one of the best free anti-virus, but I would advice everyone to use these programs for what they are...protecting against viruses, NOT for other features that the devs added like disk cleanup, registry cleanup, defrag, etc.
There are specific programs that are made only for this job, if you need something like this, use those.
And the thing with addons, is again a user problem, as YOU MUST BE CAREFUL what you install in your browser, also, if you see that some program warns you that there is a problem with a specific add-on, it's best to remove it directly from the browser's options, not let some program do it.
Some time is not really the best thing to trust a "fix" button, and all your problems will be fixed with just 1 click...it's better to take safety measures and try the more "manual" way (dedicated programs for your problem)
For windows clean-up things I recommend CCleaner and/or Tune-Up utilities
