Do people forget? I'd say they can't buy it but you have to have 50$ worth of games to be on here so they should have some money maybe?

Just something I always wondered.
Earlier ones like 1-3 I understand but the newer ones most of the site should know about them.

EDIT: This is about people not buying the bundle but then entering to win the bundle.

They don't like indie games or don't have money?

Then why would they enter a giveaway for the bundle?

Also it's pay what you want.

I don't have a credit card, so I can't buy my own bundles. I was able to buy the last few because I had a gift card with a few dollars on it. Before that I had to beg for them though. I had to do things I don't like to talk about.

No, you don't. You quoted Paypal yourself, you don't need a Creditcard for that.
Head to your Paypal account then My Account > Add Funds > Transfer Funds from a Bank Account in [Your Country here]
Click it, Write down the Paypal Data AND the Transaction Code for your account, go to your bank, make a payment to Paypal while adding the special 8 letter/digit number as reference number rather than the normal OCR. Then wait between 3 to 8 days (they say it's less, but it can take longer) and the money is on the account. After that I just buy what I want from the Steam store.
Also you can buy via PaySafeCards, mobile Money from your Cellphone, MoneyBookers, and a few local choices besides the Credit Cards. If you're in Russia you have even the Kiosk Terminals for buying games from Steam. Well, not all choices may be avaible everywhere, but PP should at least...

And if you got no bank account whatsoever, where had you dumped the money for your PC? Robbed or stuffed in your Pillow? :D
Edit: And if you're a kid: Well kiddo, wait a few years, then you could LEGALY buy your Ego-Shooter, but that is not so fun, right? ^^

P.S.: Nothing personal, only ranting broadsides :D

Also there is something called a DEBIT CARD. This is EASY TO GET and even free for students and pupils at some banks. It works perfectly with services like Paypal and Click&Buy, and I've used it for online payments for many years now. I never had a credit card, so that is the lamest and dumbest excuse ever.

I'm not allowed to get a credit card/debit card/bank account.

I also have no money that's mine so I'm completely dependent on my parent's money and occasional giftcards and such. But usually my giftcards are to Best Buy, which I can hardly use to purchase games off steam with or bundles.

1 decade ago
Permalink

why would you send funds to paypal via your debit card then buy games on steam with said funds?

I use my debit card directly when I buy things. Protip you can use your debit card just like a credit card.

I think people do not want to buy humblebundle because it is full of mostly unknown indie titles and they do not realize how good most of those games are.

I can fully admit to having well over $50 worth of games on my account solely from games friends gave me (Portal, GMod, TF2, CSS, L4D2, and a few others. All various games friends wanted me to play and I agreed once they got me the game)

A really nice gentleman gifted Terraria, Half-Life 2, and Episode 1 to me (and gah, I need to get Half-Life 1 before I play Half-Life 2 cause I'm very chronological about games. :( ). Then, another nice person gave me the Frozen Synapse Bundle and he paid a dollar for it, he also bought me The Really Big Bundle from IndieRoyale and VVVVVV.
The Voxatron and Introversion Bundles, I got one of my friends to get them for me because I had 10 dollars so I could pay them back and everything.
So, yeah, I was above the 50 minimum without a cent, but I'm going to give the guys who gave me stuff something decent in return once I have the means to do so. But for now, I temporarily got over the minimum for free.

If they're so poor, how did they afford a computer in the first place?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Guys works for union doing some construction work or something. While bowling has freak accident, loses legs. Now he has medical bills, can't work, no workers comp since he didn't lose his legs on the job, ect. Sure after he heals he will be able to get a job, but wont have any income while he recovers. Also, depending one what he specifically did he may not be able to do that anymore with no legs, requiring him to enter a new line of work. May end up making less, may end up having to get an education to make equal pay to what he was making. Even if he had lost them on the job he may not get worker's comp. for quite a while depending on the company.

So, he afforded the computer and $50 of steam games while working, freak accident happens, suddenly he can't afford getting anything else for awhile. Keep in mind this can happen in situations other than losing ones legs.
Really not that hard of a concept for someone intelligent.

I got mine at 15, and the only reason I don't have one now is because my bank closed my account due to inactivity... Currently opening a new bank account would require a minimum deposit, or going to my prior bank which is too far to go to... So really, no card still.

I only recently got back into gaming, and wasn't aware of Humble Bundle until I started browsing /r/gaming and saw it mentioned a few times during the Voxatron bundle. I can see how others might miss it or be unaware of it simply because they may not actively keep up with such.

Money could still be a factor in some cases, too. A lot of the games that I've bought directly through Steam I either caught on sale, or it was basically my idea of splurging. I try to budget everything that I spend on luxury, and as inexpensive as it may seem, sometimes not even beating the average will be able to fit into that.

There's also that some people may just not care enough about the bundles or the cause to want to spend any of their own money on it, but figure that they may as well take advantage of them being given away on here.

I buy only if there is a game I want in the bundle, and I don't care about "support poor indie developers", seriously.

There are some countries that can't easily get, or even blocked by the government, to buying bundles ( mine for example, Viet Nam, try it, It's hard to get a legitimate copy of a game without the help of Steam or something like that).

I missed the first two HIBs due to not having any money, but managed to get No.2 as part of the extras for No.3. The first HIB is a so far elusive prize... Anyone fancy gifting? fingers crossed

But yeah. The bundles (HIB, Royale and Gala) has massively increased my account value. I've spent around £40 (~$60), but due to buying everything on sale, and with the help of the bundles, my account is worth just under £500. Crazy!
