minecraft isn't overrated. DayZ IS overrated because when the mod came out it was basically one of the better survival games at that time, but now DayZ is pretty bland and there are many games that can easily tackle it. League of Legends while overrated has an extreme fanbase and millions of people loving it. I'm not a moba fan myself but LoL is nothing special in my view. Minecraft isn't overrated though, it's a great game. survival can get boring when you actually have to work to get something done. creative mode is the sweet point.

Yeah....i wonder if dayz is still so raw & shitty as a few months ago when i tried it....went into some ruski ghetto flats & some mountain/hill cabins and only found rotten food..

And people can play Contagion ...or in it's genre of dayz - Rust, Infestation: Survivor Stories, 7 Days To Die,The Dead Linger ,etc.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

DayZ is unique, because no game provides what DayZ has to offer.

Rust doesn't have zombies anymore. Infestation: Survivor Stories has in-game shop where you can spend money to get all the items you want, which I do not support at all. 7 Days To Die is Minecraft with zombies, and The Dead Linger is still in very, VERY early alpha. There are like 10 different weapons, it takes literally 3 minutes to move from location to another, and you don't have to worry about dying since you can get the gear you want in five minutes anyways.

None of those games you mentioned come even close to what DayZ is. I wouldn't consider DayZ a game, but rather a simulation, and oh boy it's a good fucking simulation.

Contagion is good, but it's not as much survival as DayZ is.

LoL isn't overrated, you might just don't like it.
The quality of things they do is very high.

In my opinion every Mario game is overrated, they don't provide much content, you can unlock everything very fast.

EDIT : No, I'm not Riot fanboy.

What high quality? They do make cool skins, but it's only for cash. Season 1 there was lore. Now they just add a few lines to the new champions. Not even talking about mechanics and unbalancing in the game. 6 bans for 110+ champions? Quality isn't only in graphics.

yeah agree, I feel like the game was going downhill gameplay wise since season 2, didnt like most of their decisions hence i quit year ago. They improved aesthetics pretty nicely over time tho and kudos for that, theres more features as well and game modes, I just feel like they could do it much better. Their engine was always bad and will remain bad, was always hoping for a remake but its wishfull thinking unless theres Lol2. Another thing I was dissapointed in LoL was their events, they used to do double IP weekends etc., but for last few years it was pretty scarce and all they do is give crappy icons no one cares about. After trying dota2 I never looked back, way better management, events, and most importantly good core engine for the game.
Not trying to bash lol and start one of those flame wars, just felt like posting how they dissapointed me personally over last years.
Also as for overrated games, I could never understand how borderlands is so popular, tried it and go bored after 30 mins, the gunplay was horrible and quests felt like f2p mmo.

Thats the whole point of Mario, to reuse the same formula that makes the franchise so successful! Also specify what you mean by 'unlocking everything fast' and no providing much content?'

What do you mean by "unlock everything very fast"? I haven't played a Mario game since Sunshine, but unless things have changed in the last couple of years, progression is similar to any other platformer. I guess you would dislike Mario if you hate the action platformer genre.

TWD:S2

Not impressed atm. Outcomes feels more forced and less varied compared to S1. The variance of your choice is too short. Like for example, if you chose a certain character to live, then he will be alive for at least until next or 2 episodes. But here in S2, they die regardless if you choice within 20min -_-

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't agree with that. I could already say 2 examples for characters that really stay alive for 1 or 2 episodes depending on your decisions, but I don't want to spoil anything. And I don't think that there were too many of choices like that in S1

Only because you don't like a game doesn't mean it's overrated. League is hated by many, actually I'm pretty sure that the majority of gamers don't like that game.
As for truly overrated games... even as I like Bioshock: Infinite, I think the overall quality of the game isn't that high. Then I'd say Mafia II and Witcher II, I feel like they're not that good in comparison to their precursors, even though most people like those sequels more than their prequels.

You do know that LoL is the most played game in the world at this moment, right? You can't really say the majority of gamers hate it. That would imply that most LoL players only play LoL and therefore are not gamers and that most certainly isn't true.

While I'm not going to discuss the topic of how many people hate or love LoL, as I personally don't like Moba's at all, I would like to say you're wrong in that statement, as you go based on the assumption that most played game in the world means that the majority of people also actually play it, which I don't think is necessarily true.

I played Bioshock 1 after infinite and I feel that infinite is better. I assume you played the first one first and feel that it is better because you enjoyed it more. Infinite probably felt samey to you. This is why i liked bioshock 1 less

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I won't say that I think Infinite is necessarily overrated, and it certainly looks better than Bioshock 1. While the environments looked amazing in BS1, the human characters looked like those old cast iron toys with the thick coat of shiny paint on them, though BS2 did improve them a bit (particularly Eleanor and the Little Sisters, since it's hard to feel sympathy for a cast iron toy). However, Bioshock Infinite's combat was nowhere near as enjoyable as Bioshock 1 and 2's.

I also feel the ending of Infinite was maybe not quite as deep as it was "let's do this for shock value," then they decided, since it seemed to work well enough for them the first time, to go for another shocker ending with the Burial at Sea 1 and 2 DLCs.

The best thing about Burial at Sea 1 and 2 was getting to walk through Rapture again (give me a Bioshick 3, please)... but I think a more appropriate pair of titles might have been "Where's The Ammo?" and "What Ammo?"

I enjoyed exploring Columbia and listening to all the story elements, and I feel like the Luteces were interesting. Elizabeth is a very impressive piece of work... or emotional manipulation, but either way she was a revolutionary step in companion characters. Unfortunately, 'reading/listening' to BSI was much better than 'playing' BSI. As a story you can walk through, it does its job well, but as a game you can play, I feel it fell short of its BS1 & 2 predecessors.

*Actually, I'd only want a Bioshock 3 if they could actually come up with more to say about Rapture and its inhabitants. Just going there for the sake of revisiting the place, without having anything substantive to say about it, would be pointless.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Probably because of this?

Also the E3 footage look so much more fun then the final product.

Honestly I still cant bring myself to play it....after watching that, it kinda kills me, not saying its a bad game I just don't get the downgrading, I heard it was because of consoles not being able to deal with the situations.

Tomb Raider. The new one, not the original.

Spend billions on and ad campaign focused on the survival aspect. Promise puzzle solving and an island to explore.

Release a cookie cutter third person shooter scripted from start to end, instadeath quick time events, whose survival aspect boils down to a cutscene where you kill a deer for drama (despite the fact that the whole area was crawling with rabbits which are much easier to hunt and have plenty of meat to feed an adult), terrible cover mechanic, plot filled with clichés, two-dimensional characters and tacked-on terrible multiplayer plagued with connection issues and crappy netcode.

It looks nice though, it has that going for it. 10/10 everywhere, GOTY wooooooo.

I played GC2 and checkin screens it seems quite similar. Just a bit better dip tab(graphics of races), planets and ships looks EXACTLY SAME like in GC2, only difference is they are placed on hex areas instead of squares. Even damn icons on zoom out are just copied.

Wanna fanboys battle? Well I can add Heroes 3 is highly overrated. Played almost after release, nothing awesome at all, I enjoyed more Heroes 4, which was hated by everyone then and I don't know why. Better graphics, innovative castles, Heroes participating and dying in battle, not sitting on horse and waving hand once to cast a spell, multiple heroes per army, forced to choose units of higher tiers between 2 types(so every game with same castle might be different).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I played it on 2004 and I agree with him. It's over hyped. I love Half-Life 1, but 2 was just a massive disappointment

Going to keep this short
Enemy Variety -Absolutely terrible. People complain how much they hate most shooters because they hate shooting the same boring enemies, but look at half-life 2. You're mostly killing combine soldiers throughout the game. Half-Life 1 had the better enemy variety all that blended nice and created some challenging battles.
Dull gameplay - Aside from the technical side, Half-Life 2 gameplay is more dumbed down than the first. It's still linear corridor shooter, since the enemy variety is lower it gets repetitive fast, puzzles aren't that great due to....
Alyx - Every raves how Alyx is a great woman &/or black character. She's not. She's a very bland character. She's there to flirt with Gordon and to do most of the puzzles. Every time where I reached a dead end I knew Alyx was going open her mouth especially before I could act on solving the simple puzzle. "Hey Gordon why don't you use your gravity gun on that X to Y. Wow you did it Gordon, I wish I was as smart as you!" What people need to understand is that just because a woman in a video game isn't sexualized does not automatically mean she's a good character.
Narrative - I wasn't a fan of the game halted the action immediately then made you wait 3-5 minutes so you could move forward. Half-Life and Halo provided a smooth transition from killing enemies to get caught up with the story.
End game - Dumb. Game forced you to use the gun it's been advertising which made the game more boring.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

People tend to think that way unless they played it when it came out. Ten years later it lost a bit of its thunder - which is natural since it pretty much rewrote the FPS rulebook - but it still blows many recent attempts out of the water. Its atmosphere and storytelling are still among the best, imho. All that without one single cutscene or quick time event.
