I am trying to give away something to someone.... Three times now I've had to request a new winner because they've all already had the DLC I'm giving away.
Why does SteamGifts not have a verification for DLC?
Edit: 4th time in a row now. Now it's a game. How high will it get? It had 122 entries and so far I've had to request a new winner 4 times.
Edit2: Now it's set to "Not Received" because it wont give me someone who actually doesn't have the DLC already. Thanks.

Steam's API doesn't support it.

Doesn't it just scan your games list? (which is why you need your profile set to public) all the games and DLC are listed right there.

Most DLC isn't listed, and I'm not sure it works with the few that are anyway.

Well I've been sitting here waiting for almost a week now, for it to pick someone who actually DOESN'T have the DLC..

It's either keep the same system or remove DLC altogether from the giveaway list.

the problem is there is... everything call DLC these day, but infact it was a explansion, for example, CIV 5 , Crusader King, EU4, Xcom major DLC, they call DLC but it actually is a proper explansion. And a lot of person still need them, like me , still need Enemy Within for Xcom

Yes, and that's why it's necessary to keep DLCs on the giveaway list even though it causes some minor inconvenience to people.

what is "explansion"? ^^

Most expansions don't make much sense. That's why sometimes we need an explansion.

Or have SteamGifts check for DLC the same way it checks for games.

As we've been saying, the Steam API doesnt report DLCs, so they can't be checked for. This is the exact same procedure used to check for games, but once again, this method doesn't work for DLCs.

Also, it doesn't work with "the few that are" since I can find them in their game lists right there.

I agree that this would be very annoying but as someone above said, props to you for doing the "legwork" to ensure the DLC goes to someone who actually needs it.

I dont get why people would enter a giveaway for something they already own

Especially with something like a bundled DLC, it's not always easy for bundle addicts to remember what they have. :D

Yeah really, i dont get it too..cant be that hard to remember every DLC you own.

I forgot that it's so incredibly hard to check before you enter the giveaway.

Exactly. They were nice enough to give away the DLC. The least you could do is check to see if you already own it so they don't have to bother support with re-rolls. All you have to do is click on the fucking Steam Store link in the giveaway and it will tell you if you own it or not.

Maybe they know that steamgifts won't allow you to enter giveaways for games you already own, but don't know that DLCs are an exception, so they don't even think about it.

I can see new users not knowing that Steam Gifts doesn't know what DLC you own, but if you already know how the site works then you are a dick for not checking.

Kudos to you for checking every single time. That's the way it's done.

Next time just say you're giving away the base game itself and explain the reality in the details... I'm sure it's a big no-no, but then those people that have the DLC already will not be able to enter.

If I understood you correctly, you should not create a giveaway for the incorrect item, nor should you encourage people to do so.

I was actually angling more for sarcasm as I could see where this would get annoying, but text in threads often looses its inflection. I really have zero intention of encouraging anyone to do such a thing, and hoped that would come across. Clearly it did not do so sufficiently... good thing I never became a writer or an English teacher. I suppose it's akin to my two-inch vertical keeping me out of the NBA. :(

Apparently the person who already has the DLC "hasn't received the gift." Hmm, I wonder why. Good ol RED X there now. sigh

Wait, they already had the DLC so they marked it as not received? What is wrong with people?

Lack of understanding of how the system works?

Well it's been a week, so I guess it popped up and allowed them to.

Can't you just contact support and say "look he has it in has library, but he said he didn't get it" and have them remove the bad feedback?

If you'll finally be able to find someone who doesn't have DLC and he'll win, he should be able to click received and balance will be restored to universe.
