yep, you are right

half life 2 was played by everyone before bad rats came to be, bad rats has now opened our eyes to what great gameplay can actually be. you have probably already played bad rats which is why half life 2 seems so bland, but then again so would any other game compared to bad rats

The only reason why you could think HL2 is overrated is because you're not putting things in context, go back to 2004/2005 and then tell me it's overrated, it's not our fault that you are so outdated that you're just playing a 10 year old FPS and probably comparing it with modern FPS standards of the last 5 years, most of those games wouldn't be the same if it wasn't for HL2 influence and context are the key words.

From this thread? But it looks like a majority of posts are saying "It's great but nah, you don't really have to play it".

Also to be fair, it's a 10 year old game.

The problem with HL2 is that to appreciate the effort they put into storytelling and gamedesign you need to actually have functioning brain.

96 is overrated but you say it should have an 80? That's still an excellent score and probably what I would score HL2. I played it back in the day and still go back every couple of years and replay it. It's a great game. Not the best but it still holds it's own almost 10 years later.

It's the best game I've ever played. Maybe you don't like that type of games, but the story is awesome and you have to consider that it is 10 years old, don't try to compare it to a new game (whose story and gameplay are way worse in some cases, by the way).

I think its fantastic, just remember its an old game so standards may have been lifting lol, but I love it as its a different type of FPS! I love me some HL!

You just underrate it, that's all.

I have a hard time deciding if Half-Life 1 or 2 is more amazing. Simply two of the greatest games ever made. There's a reason the original won endless awards and the second is GMG's #1 game which must be played before death.

There is no such a thing as 'overrated', or 'underrated' for that matter. Things are rated, as people rated them. If many people loved something, then that is the way it is. Who are you to tell them that they are wrong and they should've rated it lower? Or who are you to tell people who hate something, that they underrated it? Are you the master of opinions?
If something is rated high, then that's because many people rated it high. Thus it is not overrated, but rated just as it accumulates from the single ratings by the members of the general populace.

You are also just one of those, and your single opinion doesn't change the outcome of the arithmetical average of all opinions that much.
