I recently got Dark Souls: Prepare To Die as a gift. I tried to view the store page but it gave me that error.

I was wondering if I could still install and play it even though it's not available in my region? Will I encounter any problems?

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply! Will I be able to play this in multiplayer as well? No restrictions because of that error?

There are problems, but not the ones you expect. They locked the new Steam servers to regions. Smaller countries won't have much luck.

Yes, you will encounter many problems. I hear that game is hard as hell.

Yes you can play it without problems, the only restriction is buying it, so if someone gives it to you everything is fine, online also works.

Probably a dumb question (however, I AM only a tattoo so I deserve a little leeway I reckon) but does the same hold for game giveaways on this, or other similar sites? I've wanted to enter a few that have given me the "unavailable" page on Steam so haven't bothered yet just in case...

It varies. Steam gifts always work even if the store page is not available. However in very rare cases, the game can be runlocked so that it won't start in your region. Duck Dynasty does this in Australia, for example.

If it's a Steam key, it's basically a coin flip. They may or may not work depending on publisher settings.

There's a Duck Dynasty game? Why?

You will probably need to use the beta update branch. That's how to get on the Steamworks version, which shouldn't be region restricted. The default GFWL version is restricted, though I'm not sure if it's just purchase restricted or straight up won't let you play. They're going to migrate over to Steamworks next year, but for now you should be able to play on Steamworks just fine and not even worry about GFWL by using the beta channel.
