Do you have a pet peeve when you make a giveaway, go ahead and post it.

When they are on Steam, but don't check their messages

When they have an obscure email that seems like it would never be checked

better "automated" thanks than no comments at all

automated or not it's irrelevant and not always able to be discerned. They are all spam.

Automated is a dumb way of getting your comment ratio up (I've heard that some users actually give a fuck about that...?) without getting banned for spamming.

I think that if you don't even want to take the time to thanks the giveaway's creator, don't use a bot to do it. Just don't do it AT ALL.

i agree using bot is lame but you cant know what comment is automated and what not .. on public giveaways, i always comment "thanks!!". that doesnt mean I use some bot, it's just the way i am thanking the giveaway creator.

I always comment something like "Thank you, kOROMO! :D" or "Thanks for the giveaway, kOROMO."
And I always insert the name of the giveaway's creator, to show that I'm actually grateful, and not a bot. XD

But as long as you type a thank you comment, even if it's just "ty", I approve. :D

Pretty sure I saw a script that automatically puts in the GA creator's name now so even that is not guaranteed proof of real typing.

Damn it! Is there any place safe from bots in this world anymore???
No, there isn't.
But I'm sure there is!
Nope. Deal with it.
SHUT UP.

You could always give the GA creator a nickname based off of their username to try to make it more genuine.

When they win.

The truth is, i just make giveaways to show off what games i have in my inventory, i don't expect them to enter for it yet many do. That's why i feel slightly annoyed when i actually have to give them the game but lately i got this neat little workaround where i just link them the torrent to the game if they win and ask them to mark the gift on SG as received anyway. I get to keep my games and my CV so everyone wins in the end

What about games with trading cards? I need to know this.

When a winner doesn't check his email for days, and then I add him on Steam. He accepts it but doesn't respond once to my messages, even though he is obviously not afk as he is playing games. Took him another day to finally mark the gift as received. No replies on Steam still.

I hate it when puny humans enter my giveaways and dare to thank me for my divine generosity. I do what I want, I don't need you pathetic dogs licking my boots!

When the winner does not activate the gift or when I discover he has not activated previous wins. Report in both cases and reroll in the latter.

When you have to go through all the 'thankyou' posts to see if there are any genuine questions. I wish the site just had a thankyou button and left the comments section for actual comments.

Why hasn't this been done already?

Because people would still use a bot to post "thanks" to falsely inflate their post count, making it seem like they're an active member of the community.

There's a greasemonkey thanks filter that collapses all the generic "thanks" down so you only see the ones where people actually said something different. Not perfect, but better than nothing. :)

I'm not sure if it's really a pet peeve, but there's something odd about the winners of my giveaways. Whenever I create a giveaway, I try to be there when it ends so that I can gift the winner as soon as possible. I'm usually trying to contact the winner some minutes after the giveaway ends. (On occasion, I've been "late" by an hour or so.) Almost every time, however, the winner promptly goes offline for days. Out of all the giveaways I've done, I think only two winners have ever been online to receive their game within the same day they win. Most often, my winners are offline for three or four days. (One guy went offline for nine days, prompting me to re-roll.) It's not like they win the giveaway while they're away. Not at all. Rather, they win the giveaway, and THEN go offline. Most of the time, I miss getting in touch with them by less than ten minutes.

I still haven't figured out why people do this. Whenever I've won a giveaway, I've wanted to redeem my game ASAP.

I'm surprised no one has said this one yet: not thanking you for the gift after receiving it. I really don't care if you don't say thanks in the GA thread. After all, it's not guaranteed you're going to get anything. But to not say thanks after you actually receive the game is really incredibly rude.

So much this. I added one winner on Steam to send him his key and he simply said "kk" and deleted me, wtf. Least he added it to his library and marked it as received...
