It really depends on if the person has low or high rep. Steam gifts can be bought with stolen credit cards, and then they'll be revoked off your account once the charges are disputed. However, 9 keys may be a normal price because in Russia most games cost half as much because of the low income there. DayZ is $30, so that would come out to around $15 in keys. I have no idea of if DayZ is accepted in all regions though and half off, so you should look into it.

i was thinking the same thing they are probably buying gifts with stolen cards

High rep doesn't necessarily mean that something is legit. I've seen a couple of guys with high rep that turned out to be selling/trading Humble Bundle stuff that was presumably acquired via stolen credit card info, whether directly or through a middleman. They had high rep because they did numerous transactions and it was great deal for people... that is until their games started getting revoked. The incoming negative rep from that sort of thing can take awhile to catch up with them in some cases. Also, for many people it is quite easy to forget what they got from who exactly, which is why some negative rep may go unreported and why keeping some simple records can be valuable.

As far as the price of DayZ goes your assumption is incorrect in this case. It seems that no matter what region you are in the cost is somewhere around $30 USD.

A high rep acquired in a matter of a few weeks is not necessarily that good. Someone running a scam could definitively have a lot of successful transactions before things start to go south.

Someone with decent rep acquired in the course of many months would be more trustable.

By high rep I kind of meant in the hundreds, but I can see what you're saying. I forgot about the stolen CC problems that Humble was having. Were they able to fix what was allowing it? I know they started taking off stolen games from accounts a while ago, but I haven't heard if they were able to actually stop new stolen orders. I did say I wasn't sure about the DayZ price in Russia, I know not every game goes for half off there. I do like that DayZ is $30 there though, until they have a good way to fix reselling half off games devs shouldn't lose out of half of the cost of their game day 1.

Simple answer: no, it's impossible.
Dayz never had a sale and the price in low-income regions is the same as in US or Euro, so everybody who is selling for 9 keys is using a stolen CC

sounds like a legit scam, but that is about it. I wouldn't suggest it.

I fell for a Skyrim Legendary Edition scam in December. Was sold for 6 Keys, which is crazy cheap. Seller already had 20+ feedback, and said it's a retail CD key so it can't be revoked, plus he even went first. Thinking that cd keys can't be revoked, I went a head with the deal.
All was fine, game worked, and I played for weeks. Then suddenly the game was revoked. I contacted the guy, no answer. Then I checked out his steamtrades profile: http://www.steamtrades.com/user/ghostmax, and it was full with people complaining about the same thing.

So what happened? It's a guy living in Algeria, involved in credit card scams. He purchases CD keys via 3rd party online retailers with the stolen credit cards. He sells the CD keys for tf2 keys, they work fine for a couple for days or weeks, until the credit card owner notices the transactions and make a chargeback, which then leads to the key being revoked on steam.

Lesson learned: NEVER PURCHASE CD KEYS!

In your case, if the guy is actually selling DayZ as a gift, where you receive the gift in the same transaction as you put in your 9 keys, then go for it. Because if it was bought with a stolen credit card and the game will be revoked, Valve will reverse your trade and you get at least the 9 keys back. Just make sure all happens in the same transaction. Don't go for it if he gifts you the copy in a separate transaction.

Are you sure about that? And what if the guy doesn't have the keys anymore anyway? What if he traded them or sold them for money? Things can get complicated quickly. Somehow I doubt Valve would eat the cost of the game to give someone their TF2 keys back.

It's amazing how many people don't read the FAQ:

What if I redeemed a game from a trade that is fraudulently purchased?

If this happens, the account where the fraud took place will be suspended. Your account will not be suspended, however the game you redeemed/unpacked to your account will be removed. We will restore the items/gifts that were associated with the trade that you performed to receive the game. If you did not trade any items/gifts for the game directly then we are not able to restore anything to your account (i.e. if the game was a gift). Please contact Steam Support if a game that you traded for is missing from your inventory or account.

From this part of the FAQ

I read through it a long time ago but I don't remember that being in there. Good to know, thanks.

I'm 100% sure. This is why Valve keeps saying to NOT trade outside of the steam trade window, and if someone made promises such as sending the item in a separate gift transaction, or PayPal or cd keys, Valve will not be able to revert the trade. What ever is being traded, needs to be in the same transaction window.

ladynadiad also pointed it out in the official FAQ from Steam.

Valve can make keys from thin air. It doesn't matter what the other guy did with the keys. I got my keys back once when my Payday CE was revoked.

I had problems with revoked Skyrim Legendary Edition last summer, because of a scammer, but I traded for some games including Borderlands 2, I didn't gave importance to the fact his profile looked suspicious, I always do but in this case I don't know why I didn't, but Steam support helped me, they even gave me back my Borderlands 2, but not my Steam game keys obviously. After that I couldn't resist and bought Skyrim LE on summer sale with my money earned from selling cards. Not only I suffered from scammers the last summer, there was a lot of ppl complaining about revoked gifts, and also a lot of phishing links were appearing in tf2outpost, so the last summer was a hard work to all Steam support. But seems scammers not gonna stop...

I hate to be the person that says this, but isn't this calling out? It would probably be best to remove the steamtrades URL.

Calling out? Did you see that this guy already has a huge amount of negative reviews? It's not like I am destroying his reputation. I am surprised this guy and his multiple accounts haven't been banned yet from the entire Steamgifts Network.

Doesn't matter. Calling out is still calling out, no matter the subject. Anyways, don't justify yourself to me. I couldn't care less about whether he's an actual scammer or not. I'm just warning you that you might get suspended for that post.

Well, at least if you trade keys for it and it turns out to be fake, you can get the keys back. Hopefully.

i had one DayZ revoked. this is 100% fake and it's gonna be chargebacked. yes, you will be able to get your keys back BUT contacting Steam Support may prove to be some of the worse experiences of your life. they don't read your ticket, they use automated answers, and they take so very very long to reply.

i was happy to get my 14 (!) keys back. a friend opened a ticket for 20-something keys (2x DayZ, that is), and Support made him wait 4 weeks for response and then just closed the ticket without replying.

common sense, mate.

Thanks for sharing your story.

The question is: Even if Valve gives/gets you your items back, is it really worth the hassle and time that you will waste dealing with it? Personally, I don't think that it is.
