Hasn't it always been that way? I think they just hope you'll forget to cancel some day.

This looks like an interesting thing, thanks for the tip.
Here is an instruction I found useful (may be would be good for some newcomers like myself).
EDIT:
ATTENTION EVERYONE:

I just did it, here are the easily repeatable steps to make sure you don't **** up and actually get billed.

  1. Go here https://login.ign.com/subscribe/signup.aspx
  2. Click start free trial
  3. IGN Prime 7 day free trial
  4. Create IGN account
  5. Choose Paypal as payment method (make an account if you don't already have one, you don't need any money in the account)
  6. Complete the appropriate Paypal information, then when you're back on the IGN website, click the button that just appeared. This is what you should get. http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/916/ignprime.png
  7. Now, go back to IGN prime. Login on http://my.ign.com/home
  8. Get whatever codes/items you want.
  9. Go to https://login.ign.com/Subscribe/Manage/MySubscription.aspx
  10. Click on the big "Turn auto-renew OFF" button
  11. Click on the really small "Continue with cancellation" link at the bottom

You're done!

Actually you do need to have money in the account otherwise it will decline when creating the account. They do a 1 dollar check, but they refund it swiftly. Its a common practice.

1 decade ago

1 Dollar...

Lucky me, my previous purchase didn't take the AUD in my paypal account.

Curious - I had nothing in my account and they didn't decline me.

am I doing something wrong?
do you need to use valid credit card?

1 decade ago

ign is asking for your card? Try choosing paypal as a checkout method instead.

1 decade ago

I had a blank paypal account, and paypal is asking a credit card.

Do you have any bank account//credit card associated with paypal?

1 decade ago

Yes I do. I do not know whether you are "required" to have that, but may be you are.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Crap - be sure to do this AFTER you download your games, it seems to kill your trial. :( (At least it did mine.)

1 decade ago

Ok I made a correction. This is a bit weird, though, as I was able to enter the Rosario+Vampire competition and get Gotham City Impostors keys after I turned my auto-renew off.

I think there's gonna be a policy stating that these keys will now be considered as exploited keys

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Can't really be considered exploiting if you can only redeem 1 key per game per credit card/paypal account.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's just my guess

But if you can only redeem 1 key per account, then exploiters are gonna create shit loads of account, and use them for profit, giveaway, whatsoever.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

-_-

Read what I said again... "1 key per game per credit card/paypal account".

If you create a second account then use the same credit card, it will come up as fraudulent and won't process. Paypal accounts are also tied to IGN accounts so the same thing applies.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

IGN Prime keys have never been considered exploited. You can only get one set per account and you have to sign up with a valid credit card or PayPal account

No you just have to sign in and at your "Prime" page and select the game you want to redeem. Afterwards you will be taken to the advertising page of the giveaway where by pressing "Redeem" you will get your code.
By the way there is also a Bastion OST giveaway there now at the bottom of the page.

Funny, seems it keeps bugging me to "Get Free Trial" when I try to redeem the code, although I have successfully signed up to prime and got the credit card accepted.

1 decade ago

thats because fileplanet doesn't share the same cache as IGN.com All you have to do is click the little button that says log in to your prime account when redeeming the code and it'll take you to the next page.

Ah yes, worked, thanks man!

One additional question though, will they revoke my Steam activated game after I cancel my trial or doesn´t that matter?

1 decade ago

no they don't care. and you're not canceling your trial, you're canceling the renewal which would come after the 7day trial period.

Just to clarify, so i make a acc with paypal but my 14$ isnt deducted? And i only renew it with free trial every 7 days?

1 decade ago

That's how it works. But, is there a real reason to update it every 7 days? Tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems, that you can update it every month to get new deals.

Thats it...just fantastic!!!

1 decade ago

I am not sure all those freebies are renewed on a monthly basis. There "might" be something that lasts a shorter amount of time. I will monitor ign for a while to see how things are.

1 decade ago

if you disable autorenew in the ignprime account settings, then yes, you won't be charged 14,99 after the 7 day trial period.

Somone just posted here though that they would charge you "5 days prior to your renewal" which leaves you only 2 days to cancel after registering. This is something to take into account.

i got the very same problem as oathkeeper and when i try to log in on the registration page it keeps telling me that my pw is wrong... im glad it was working before and i was able to turn off auto renew

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I also have the very same problem. It will not let me log in, and I have tried from the registration page; it also said my information was incorrect, even though I KNOW it is most definitely the correct information. I just want to cancel the auto-renew before the 1st; I only registered for some PDFs of Strategy guides since I have a crappy computer. I've submitted a support ticket about it, but we all know how most places are with customer support...
