Greetings community,

As discussed over in this thread and on the Official Grimrock forums, people have voiced concern this is unethical to give away the Steam key when you purchased the game from the developers. The argument is that the devs are giving gamers two ways to access their copy of Legend of Grimrock if you buy from them directly; both a non-DRM installer and a Steam key.

Unfortunately, this means that we have to treat Grimrock giveaways the same way we've treated Humble Bundles. Only giftable URLs when bought from the devs can be gifted and not Steam only keys. Unless the game is purchased directly through Steam and Legend of Grimrock is a giftable item, we will not allow these giveaways, following the same reasons that created the Bundle policies in the first place.

Existing Legend of Grimrock giveaways that do not state that they are unused giftable URLs will be removed. If you submit Legend of Grimrock, please update the description of your giveaway or it could be removed. Thank you for your understanding.

-best regards

AS a fan of this game and the developers I'd say anyone who does this,or even thinks about it, should be hung out to dry. It's very rare we get a game as good as this and you want to screw them over? They're indie you guys. shame on you.

Have to agree, this game is REALLY worth the $14.99 regular price tag!

Glad to see this policy implemented. Too many people were doing this :(

I think it should be an insta ban and that the humble guys should talk to steam and punish all those people.

I think that's an unnecessarily cruel way to treat someone who actually bought the game...

not really. . . if they are gonna help someone else steal . . they may have bought the game but that doesn't give them the right to help someone else steal the game. . that pretty much piracy. . .no?

Glad to see this as well. I thought all humble store products should be treated this way but I guess people need a special notice for everything.

Thanks for this. It's too bad we even need policies like this.

Personally don't agree with this one at all, but the rules are the rules.

Why not? Were you one of those that submitted a key this way? This hurts absolutely no-one. What possible reason is there to oppose a rule in place to stop hurting the developers?

Nope I didn't submit one, I don't own the game yet though it looks great =) I just feel like the developers intended on the key being easy to share and all. It doesn't seem that harmful to me. I understand where it's coming from though.

No they didn't? The key is provided for your convenience to add it on Steam so you can have Steam features if you so desire. This key is not for re-sale, transfer or trade.

Its basically the equivalent of pirating, its kinda like walking into a store, buying 1 can of soda and shoving another into your pants to give to a friend.

Hope that makes sense sorta.

So if you went into a store and bought soda and they said "we have a bottle and it comes with a can as well so you can choose which way to drink your soda!" It would be wrong to give your can to a friend? You've only proven my point further haha XD

Examples with real-life items do not hold good enough.

Any question?

A totally logical step stopping people "offering" what they shouldn't.

I prefer the Steam gift to the DRM free, anyway.

I understand why the giveaways should be stopped, but the devs should have provided separate choices between a drm free version or a steam version. Why on earth would you give two copies of the game for the price of one? Think about it!

PSA: If you think the game is interesting from pictues and video BUY IT trust me you won't regret it...it is a really awesome game worth the money in all honesty it's worth more that they are asking for it.

It's kinda sad that people would do this, although, given the increasingly skewed moral compass of those who get freebies, I guess it's to be expected. I've currently got a copy ready to gift, but it was purchased directly within Steam.

So you're saying that you want a free copy somehow, correct?

You can still buy it the same way everyone else has been, either from the developer, through Steam or through GOG.

The OP states that the game can still be gifted, if you purchase it directly through steam. At least, that's my interpretation of it. It's just that the steam keys given from purchasing direct from the developers aren't allowed

Bigger moral problem would be if you ditributed DRM free version. Ony one person can activate and play Steam version. But with DRM-free version distribution is like pirating (you copy the game to friend and that friend copies it to another friend,...). I don't think gifting Steam key is a big issue.
