• Some weather effects are negated when flying
• Flight Systems are automated and can sense potential disturbances/suggest ways to solve them far before a human can
• Pilots have experience in dealing with many kinds of situations,and are required to be fully awake and paying attention(compare to your average hard working guy driving home after a long day or some young lad driving in 6 am after he was at a party all night,not to mention drugs/alcohol)
• Aircrafts are regularly maintained and pass several tests to avoid any technical issues,while car tests are less vigorous and maintenance is mostly up to the owner
• Flight routes are known and you can plan yours so that it only cuts other's flight routes when they should be a 2 hours distance away(at least for in-country flights and takeoff/landing)
• Even in the unlikely case you're about to crash with another aircraft,not only you should be aware of it much earlier than you would in a car(no surprises like 'he appeared behind the corner'),you can navigate in freely in three dimensions compared to a car's extremely limited two and probably also contact the other pilot to confirm you both stay safe.
