you said it "costs a fortune" not that "it costs a fortune considfering my personal situation" ;)
Considering that the cost of most expensive version - meaning preordering newest dev-kit - is comparable to just high-end but not top-tier GPU, and cannot even be comparted to buying high end gaming PC (which both are required to use it) I wouldn't call it a fortune ;)

yeah, the cockpit is way more impressive in the rift than it is in 2D. ^^

I am considering to get the Oculus Rift, maybe for Christmas.
Of course, there is the price.
But most important, i am afraid of the "motion sickness".
I am never sick in car, boat or plane, but have been kind of sick with some FPS (not all).
How long do you use it during your game session ?
Have you played other games than Grid ?
Have you experienced "motion sickness" ? (Well, i guess it is different with each person)

i already used it for several hours without getting sick. i only felt a little bit of motion sickness with some pretty bad demos. one for example had very bad controls. you are an eagle and fly over some mountains and stuff. and when you look left, you steer to the left. but there is an acceleration, so your view doesn't go left immediately, like you would expect. instead it slowly moves to the left. this is when i get sick within minutes. my brain expects to see what's there on the left, and that just doesn't happen. but this is really due to those strange controls. if a demo/game is made well, i don't get any motion sickness.
a friend of mine also bought one, but he gets sick after like half an hour. he already sold his rift because of that. so it's just very different from person to person.
very important is that you can get constant 75fps. so you'd rather lower the graphics settings than accepting a lower frame rate. this is important for the feeling of "presence" and the immersion.
and if you want my advise: wait for the next devkit (CrescentBay) or the consumer version. the DK2 has full-hd, which is way better than the old one, but it is still not enough. i enjoy the DK2, but i wouldn't recommend buying it, considering the next iterations will be so much better.

and yes, i tried several games. but honestly, the list of games with rift-support ist still very small. and many don't work or need some configuring (or work only correctly, if you use the rift as primary display, which is a pain in the ass^^). alien isolation has really great (yet unofficial) rift support. they even thought about what to do with the menu and the cutscenes. world of diving is also very nice.

Despite the crappy cockpit view of GRID Autosport, this is really a lot of fun. I can highly recommend it for those of you who have a Rift (and the game, of course ^^).
