Would you like to Inherit your games to your children It's a fact that Valve is one (if not the one) of the biggest company right now and it will stay in the future, and its also a fact that we are gonna die someday.

In the rights of Valve they said they sell you the right to play the game, so in fact you dont "own it" in certain way (like apple with the songs), so you legally cannot inherit it to your family.

The solution could be just using family sharing, but isn't the best one (some games dont support it).

So, what do you think about this?

Sounds pretty dubious.

I'd give it to my brother. He isn't a gamer, but he's the only one who understands the value of games. :P

Um, to inherit something means to get it from your predecessors. I believe the word/phrase you're looking for is "bequeath" or "pass down"/"pass on". On topic though, there's no real way for Valve to regulate that. If I still have my account at the end of my life and if my children are interested in it, sure I'd pass it on to them.

+1 for bequeath

I think the op might be bilingual, as I see it the problem is not in word choice but in noun/verb order. Something you commonly see in people that speak French or Spanish as a primary language

I will give my Steam account to them, probably i will stop playing sooner or later, but i think they will be enjoying another kind of games and virtual reality that will make nowadays games looks like crap, lol.
We always can expect nostalgic children, anyway. Who knows... :P

There is nothing to be nostalgic about if they have not tried it before in the past. Steam will always be up to date on VR games when they come out. When it happens our gaming days would probably be long gone and the kids can still add more games to the steam account you passed on to them. Keep the ball rolling till the world ends =D

While it's against a TOS - just write down your account/pass for them. Valve has no way of telling who actually does log into account.

"Dear Valve, I'm currently an intelligent entity transferred to my PC after my body got frozen and hibernated due to fatal condition. You shutting down my account is outrageous, it's inteligent-entity-transferred-to-PC-phobic. You shouldn't discriminate me and my people!"

This actually might happen. Maybe not to us, but to kids that are in the same generation as our would be kids that we never had. I guess they'll have to go to holographic court to seek justice.

Yup, to our children, today's modern games will be what the first DOOM or 2D Prince of Persia is to us :D
But think about the nostalgia! :D

Speak for yourself! I remember being scared of the (awesome) doom music when I was 6 or so, and first being allowed to play it around 7. There are much older farts than I on here too ;)

Prince of Persia did nothing, and does nothing, for me... shameful I know. An awful lot of my time was sunk into the early Maxis & bullfrog titles. Anything by Apogee or Epic was fair game too :D

Back on topic: In my opinion, Valve/Steam will be around for a fair few years yet but won't last forever - despite what we may think. Look at the Woolworth company & stores. Or, for a digital example, AltaVista.

Well if you mean bequeathing games to my descendents then I suppose that I likely would pass down my physical copies of the Baldur's Gate, Stronghold,Neverwinter Nights, and Europa Universalis 1-3 series.Maybe a few other classics I own. However, I plan to have my steam account constantly idling in my elaborate mausoleum with a wall composed entirely of HD LCD screens displaying videos various gaming sessions.

My coffin will depict my bearded visage cradling an open laptop, the title screen for Mount&Blade:Warband etched expertly in granite.

Implying that I'll ever have children... ok, ok, in the unlikely event that I ever get little demons in my life, then OF COURSE I'd let them have my account when I die. When you die, you're dead, so it doesn't affect you in any way anyone. May as well give other people the chance to enjoy the awesome (and at that point old-school) games that you enjoyed. :D
(Btw, in that case the children would be the ones "inheriting" the games. Not me.)

As an immortal being from another dimension, I'll keep my account forever. Any potential offspring of mine will have to start from the scratch, just like I did back when I used to throw plant pots on climbing spiders...

If I change my mind, I'll just make sure the poor kid has the same name on his debit cards.

well you do own the account right? couldnt you just transfer ownership of the account to someone and therein all it contains. its not like valve will want all the stuff backwhen you are gone. so if you had your last will and testament saying your steam acount goes to a certain person and the login info is given to them why couldnt they just change it themselves to a new email and such and valve doesnt even have to be concerned or know at all.

Google has a nice setting where they can close/delete/lock your account if you do not log in for a while. They can even send a mail to a specific person or several people. While this might sound creepy, it's super useful for situation like this: "Dear kid of unspecified gender, if you're receiving this e-mail, it means I'm offline for 12 months and that can mean only one thing. My Steam is yours. Use it well. Username and password are..."

Both my kids have their own accounts. But if in 20-something (or more) years Steam would still be running, and account still hold some value (beside emotional to me), and I have grand-kids - I would pass my account to one of them. Or in the event my kids don't have offsprings - to someone from my extended family. Or at least find someone who would appreciate getting it.
But looking so far in the future - who knows what could happen. But if I pass away tomorrow (hopefully not) - I'll make sure my Monsters has my info on that one too, not just bank and CC accounts and other "real" things of value (or not)

The year is 2067.

"...Martha, I feel like I'm finally able to move on after my father died last year. The pain and emptiness is almost gone, all that's left is sadness and memories of what a wonderful, honest and kind man he was.

I 'm finally giving his old good Steam account a try. SteamOS logo always makes me feel strangely connected to my old man. Dad used to remember the times when it still wasn't market-dominating OS. what a silly time it probably was, right, Martha?

Oh, Half-Life 2. I wonder when they will release the third game?

And what do we have here? First Fortix? I really should give it a try, Fortix 27 was a blast. I mean, yeah, obviously the most high-budget game ever will be good, but still.

Wait, is it... is it Bad Rats? Oh no, OH MY GOD, what kind of sick fuck my father was? WHY WHY DID HE LEFT IT TO ME SO I WOULD KNOW WHY WOULD HE DESECRATE HIS OWN MEMORY??? MARTHA GET THE KIDS OUT OF THE ROOM THEY SHOULD NOT SEE IT THEY SHOULD NOT KNOW WHAT THEY GRANDFATHER WAS"

Mental breakdown and years of therapy ensue.

I might, but it'd be annoying.

I could write down the account and pass, and then I'd need the email transfered to their email, and so on.

It's even more annoying when you realize what it must take to destroy someone's online existence after they die.
