This may be old news for some, but it took me some time to notice that the chrome version of Don't Starve has been retired. But doing a bit of search on that I found out that you can get a standalone (DRM-Free) version of it from HB if you have bought the game on Steam.

Here is the link

But for those tl;dr guys here are the instructions:

HOW TO GET THE STAND-ALONE VERSION

To get your standalone key, you must first use your Steam key using the instructions above. Once the game is activated in steam, right click on "Don't Starve" in your library and then choose "View CD Key".

We've built a tool to download the Stand-alone version of Don't Starve. You will need to simply use the URL below and paste your key after "/s?key=" in the following URL.
https://www.humblebundle.com/s?key={YOUR KEY HERE}

Replace {YOUR KEY HERE} including the curly braces with your key to download the stand-alone version. Once this is done, you may play and update the game without Steam.

After that you'll get to claim a page from HB and have Don't Starve attached to your HB account as well. That's how it worked for me at least...

so they don't need steam or other pointless bulshit latched on for no reason, just throw it on a flashdrive and it works.

also no worries of some random company potentially telling them they don't own it and were only buying a right to use it which can be revoked at any time for no reason

So you can play it without the need to have steam installed?

So they can trade it to people, while retaining their Steam copy. Just like The Witcher.

Maybe to have it DRM free? Or is the logic too subtle?

Just a note, you will be able to do the same process to upgrade your game for the Reign of Giants Expansion once it's finished.

I asked on the Steam Forum and a dev replied, link here

I can confirm that this does work with the Reign of Giants DLC key that you purchased through Steam, I just claimed my DRM free version of the DLC to go along with my DRM free version of the main game. :D
