So... imagine someone who makes tons of private giveaway.. lets call this guy -> A
Only B and C join A's giveaway, we dunno who they are, maybe A's friends, maybe A's second/third account

... TL;DR A reach 1k CV

Is this legit ? For me is kinda weird... smell like an abuse.
I think that steamgifts is about gifting something to someone random, maybe i'm wrong...

Sorry for my crappy english and, no, there is no hidden giveaway... for now...

So for each private giveaway, there are 2 entries?

yes

If they actually give them games, it's still legit. Those who do fake giveaways this way usually aren't doing a good job at concealing it.

Some traders could do transactions and use giveaways to mark it as CV. That would not be legit imo.

Sounds unlikely to me. You can't get CV from a GA with one entry (you need either two or three, I forgot which) and unless they use alts (which is itself against the rules), there's the randomness of who gets the game.

True. But someone could sell multiple copies of a title, which would bypass the random factor.

Well one situation I could imagine is having 2 friends who both plan on buying a game so you have them both enter the giveaway. Then once the giveaway ends the winner just buys it like they were already going to. But you'd need to have a lot of friends buying games to get any decent amount of CV from it.

I think that you totally understand how this works. Legit, but... tbh kinda sad and against the spirit of SG

You mean someone using private giveaway to give the same thing back and forth to reach "x" CV?

The catch is -> gift should be activated, and believe me they monitor if gift that you recieve has been activated on your steam acc. If it is not activated they will suspend your Steamgifts profile . A,B,C can giveaway back and forth but steamgifts will know if they activated the gift or not.

This, and if they're careless, there's a risk of double winning, which is also against the rules.

Just in case people misunderstand.. double winning isn't against the rules as long as you don't accept the second gift and ask the person to reroll it.

private giveaways give not CV, do they?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They do. If there is only one entrant per copy of the game given away, you won't get CV (see my Dead Island Riptide giveaway - I didn't get any CV for that).

You also won't get CV once you've passed a certain ratio of bundled games to non bundled games given away.

If you see something suspicious, report it. If the games were genuinely given away, and exist on the users' accounts, there is nothing wrong here as far as the rules go, although constantly making circlejerk giveaways between the same 3 people might seen my many as a violation of the Steamgifts spirit.

At the end of the day, the gifters still have to spend the money to buy the games, and have still made random giveaways for them, albeit amongst a small circle of their friends. The fact that neither you nor I were invited is somewhat sad for us, but it's of no consequence regarding the legitimacy of the giveaway.

Don't break the spirit. Don't do 2-user gibways.

and what is the point? what does a high CV give u ?

Gets you into giveaways that have a high CV requirement. These tend to have less entrants so there is more chance to win.

Depends what you class as high, it would have to be right up there to make a significant difference - just saw a $1000 CV Rainbow Six Vegas giveaway with 99 entries and 13 hours remaining. That will close with quite a few more entrants too, so whilst there will be less people entering that than normal the winner will still have had less than 1% chance of winning and there's hardly an abundance of $1000 CV giveaways around. That sort of CV isn't going to net someone a load of easy wins.

There is also $5000 CV giveaway open that I just saw that's giving away 5 copies of a game and 20-something entrants. Now at that sort of CV the chances of winning are getting quite good. $5000 CV GA's are rare though.

It is legit, because if B and C activate their games noone is breaking any rules :/ And it happened numerous times in the past - that's why we have BlackLists :>

As people above had said it would be pretty obvious if a gift was kept in circulation between a small amount of people. Also that this would require a huge investment if the gifts were even actually activated on their alt. accounts, especially since to even enter giveaways you need to have an account worth $100 with NON bundled games. So huge risk and huge initial investment for the privilage to just enter rare high CV giveaways probably isn't worth it considering once they begin to enter legit giveaways their chances remain slim. But then again...there could be people with too much money and too much time and just want to watch the world burn......by being contempt with knowing they took a gift from someone who wants it :o

^^^ What Bloosh said. Also, some giveaways naturally have only a few people interested in entering them, so you might see a pattern for no other reason than coincidence.

Duh, if someone did this (and someone probably does) and they were smart, they would pick games that are already in B and C's accounts, since there is no way to know when a game has been activated, it would look legit.

It's possible but... all you can really do is report them and maybe they will look into it?
