After owning the origin Client for around 2 hours I thought I would share my first experience with it.

Upon signing up I mistakenly missed one character from my email, they don't make you type it twice to confirm but non the less that was my fault. I redeemed two games then realised my email was incorrect so I try to change it through the client and it tells me my new email is invalid (tried 4 different emails) so I contact customer support chat, explain the situation and they tell me it is now changed to the correct email... still hadn't changed to the correct email.

So I contact support a 2nd time, explain the situation and ask whether it should change instantly, they answer yes and change it for me again... still hadn't changed to the correct email.

I contact support a 3rd time explain the whole situation once again (40 minute conversation this time), they check my file notes and once again tell me that they have changed my email and I can now login with the new email... I tell them I can't its still using the old email and support obviously had no idea what else to do so they tell me to wait 2 days and if it still hasn't changed, contact them again. I asked if it was safe to redeem more games and they told me not to.

So I think its rather amazing that I can't do such a simple thing as change email, even with support doing it themselves. It is what I have come to expect from a company like EA.

The only positive thing I would say is that support are very friendly (although it is there job) but I feel bad for them working for EA, I hope they treat them well. I can just imagine someone standing over them cracking a whip. I also told the person on support that and they thanked me for my kind words haha. What a disaster, you kind of have to laugh at just how bad they are.

Edit: I'll update in two days just to say how I get on.

Update:

Same shit every time I contact support, they tell me its been changed although it hasn't been, Still can't change it myself.

My solution, Uninstall that junk, fuck EA with a shard of glass (how they do to us), and continue to boycott anything that EA is involved with.

I contacted them the other day as a game wouldn't launch on my wife's Win8 laptop and I had run out of options.

They told me to release/renew my IP address. On live chat. Using the internet.

I can only imagine the tech department looks a little something like this

I was flabbergasted. I told him to NEVER suggest that to someone again and that I had lost all faith in his ability to solve the issue.

He then asked me why it was a bad suggestion, and I had to explain to him why the steps he CTRL-C/CTRL-V'd into the chat made no sense and would do nothing but disconnect the customer.

I think that's what the support person was aiming for.

Oh most likely. So the two possibilities are that they are either incompetent or too lazy to do their jobs.

That would have solved the support person's problem anyway. He wouldn't have had to solve yours.

I think he was hoping I wouldn't know what it did and would blindly do the steps :P

Actually had something similar happen when I needed to contact my ISP's tech support. Even though I stated and showed them the facts the problems were on their end (at the gateway itself), they told me to unplug my DSL modem and plug it back in... while I was using the live chat...

Doesn't sound like a problem with Origin itself; your issue seems to stem from incompetent support staff. While the people you got seem to not know what they're doing, the one time I had to contact them everything got fixed fairly quickly. Let's hope you get someone who knows their job on your next try.

The problem is the whole "hopefully you get someone who knows how to do their job" part. Either they are hiring incompetent or under-skilled workers or they fail at training their workforce; or both.

The guy I spoke with seemed like he would have a hard time plugging in a router but here he is trying to troubleshoot entire systems to find the one little thing causing a game to fail.

I originally thought that but then 3 times in a row, all different support staff. That kind of makes me think its a problem with their system. I'll give it two days to see if it has changed, I guessing its not going to and I'm going to have to contact them again. I can't give anyone a hard time as they did try and were nice to deal with. I'm sure a lot of people take their frustration out on them.

I've had good luck with support myself, and quick response times to boot. Far superior to Steam support.

True with the quick response times but I shouldn't have to contact them to begin with and they couldn't solve my problem even though it is a basic option.

The thing is with steam I personally have never had to contact customer support, within 30minutes of owning the Origin client I needed to contact support. I refused to ever go near it in the past because of their messed up EULA but since they corrected it I thought I'd give BF3 a go from humble bundle

Its a shame you have had such problems, certainly. Still, when I had to contact them about adding some keys, it was as simple as copy and paste, then wait a couple of minutes. There was only one they couldn't do, which itself wasn't available as a single game on Origin, which prevented them from giving it to me as is.

I just think its hilarious, certainly put a smile on my face. I'm rather forgiving so I'll see how it goes and I'll update the thread in a couple of days just to say how it turns out if anyone cares.

Same here. 8 years on Steam, never had to contact them as everything has worked fine.

Under a year using Origin, had to contact them for 2 separate issues (both of which they were unable to resolve and I had to solve on my own). But at least they answer fast!

Well praise the lord that you haven't had to deal with Steam "support" yet. If you think Origin is bad, I just hope you never have to deal with the army of illiterate C&P monkeys at Steam.

EA support blows Steam's support out of the water with a thermonuclear explosion.

Thats why they couldn't even to the simplest thing such as changing an email address. right? I shouldn't of even had to contact them over such a simple feature.

5 year steam user, never had to contact support

5minute origin user, have to contact support who couldn't even help

I'd never use Origin, so I sacrifice playing the small handful of exclusives they have. If EA is that greedy to stop putting their games on Steam and force people to use their Origin app, all so they can make an extra buck... they can kiss my ass, seriously. Too bad everyone doesn't feel that way because we would be able to force them to put games back on Steam.

I do agree with you, same with Uplay. I originally never wanted anything to do with it mainly because of Origin scanning your entire HDD's and spying but since everyone started boycotting them and they got a lot of hate for it (rightfully so) they finally changed it, this was a while back now.

I just wanted to give BF3 a go from the origin bundle, I would never buy a games from the origin store. I generally try not to buy any EA games and think I've succeeded in that other than the Origin bundle. Maybe they'll change their act one day, it would be nice to see.

I don't mind Ubisoft having Uplay because they still put their games on steam, so you have a choice. It's not some Draconian dictatorship forcing you to only use their service instead of steam. But yea, I don't use Uplay either because there is no need to, unless you want to buy a physical copy of a game.

I did actually try that but the problem is Hotmail no longer appear to allow you to have .co.uk just hotmail.com/outlook.com/live.com .... just actually found out why that was, Hotmail mistakenly thought I was in US. Found a direct link to sign up as .co.uk so I can have a bit of comfort knowing I now have the incorrect email and there is no security risk. Still would be nice to swap it to my normal email.

Thanks for the suggestion
