(Closed) average entries to win?

57 Comments - Created by west64 1 year ago

I was wondering if there is somekind of calculation regarding how many entries are required on average to win an item around here?

Keyblader98VG (1 year ago)

Im pretty sure there isn't.. I got 1,020 entries and ive only won 1 game.

adeyke (1 year ago*)

If every giveaway you enter has N entries, you'll need to enter an average of N such giveaways to win. Of course, you could win much earlier or much later.

boerenlater (1 year ago)

The amount of luck / (entries * amount of games gifted) + your total amount of entries.

you forgot to take whole thing in ()and ^ buy luck that other people that entered have

864 entries+6wins. Keep on truckin bro.

OverwatchSoldier (1 year ago)

Depends on your contribution points.

oniz (1 year ago*)

It's probability theory, nothing else. Let's say you enter a giveaway with 800 people participating. So on average you would win every 800th game (provided you have entered infinite amount of times).

P.S. my first win was around 600-700 entries

west64 (1 year ago)

well entries are way over 400 and no wins, so i was just wondering :)

@OverwatchSoldier how do you receive contribution points and in what way does that affect the chances of winning?

You make giveaways. There is contributer giveaways that have a ton LESS entries, so it increases your chances of winning.

Over 9 thousand to win.

Bengineer (1 year ago)

Your odds of winning are the same as anyone else's. No matter what you do, your chances won't increase.

I've found that for myself I win a raffle every 300 or 400 entries

The first part is so true. But the "every 300-400" entries part differs because of what giveaways you enter. I have 860 entries and 6 wins, but 2 of those wins were a private giveaway. One had only one entry because it was a gift.

I wont my first ~1.1k. This also seems to be roughly the point at which many 'unlucky' people win their first one too.

west64 (1 year ago)

lol, so i will probably be in that group of "unlucky" ppl :D

oooooooor you start being active in the forums and win yourself some friends and CD-keys! :D (just like me)

BronzePage

nah, not the type to beg around and annoy ppl :) but nice strategy tho ;)

west64

I meant start posting your opinion. Post comments that aren't just "ty", reply to someone's topic that you agree with. Earn some friends, and good luck will come your way. I don't know if you were joking or not, but begging and annoying is NOT the way to go.

Since you posted this thread, you pretty much sealed the deal. You won't win any game now

You're joking. Yes he will. (he won't, you're right. he should leave while he has the chance)

Depends on what giveaways you enter. If the giveaways you join have an average of 400 entries you will win once every 400 times you enter (on average). If you enter giveaways with avg. 1000 entries you will win every 1000th entrie on average.

So basically-enter Bad Rats if you want to win. You will never win Skyrimz.

mikbhoy (1 year ago)

there is no calculation, its pure luck.

tl26 (1 year ago)

Even though it's always purely random, obviously there's a (theoretical) way to calculate the average by just adding up the number of entries for everyone until their first win, then dividing by the number of members. Of course this doesn't take into account private or group giveaways, but still...

RenokK (1 year ago)

You can't win. The system is fake. Only some poeple, choosen by the admins, will win.

This is why i have 1,265 entrys but not won yet.

I WAS CHOSEN

BronzePage

rewas (1 year ago)

My first (and only) win was about 280 entries. I've contributed 6 games to this site before even winning one so I didn't enter public giveaways just contribution/private puzzle giveaways.

PJchillout (1 year ago)

1700+ entrie and 10 wins ... that means I would get a win for every 170 entry BUT Faerie solitaire giveaway doesn't really count... and i did contribute and can enter most contributor giveaways

darv22 (1 year ago*)

There are people who won something the same day they registered and people who didn't win anything with 1000+ entries here. It's random.

57 (1 year ago*)

It's Way over 9,000

Freud (1 year ago*)
  • If you enter 1 giveayway with 1 total entry, your chance to win is 100%.
  • If you enter 1 giveayway with 100 total entries, your chance to win is 1%.
  • If you enter 3 giveaways with 10 total entries, your chance to win all three is: 1/10 * 1/10 * 1/10 >> 1:1000 or 0.1%
  • If you enter 3 giveaways with 10 total entries, your chance to win at least one is: 1 - (9/10 * 9/10 * 9/10) >> 271:1000 or 27.1%

etc...

These type of answers are as useless as your question.

If you want to know how to augment your chance to win, then the answer is quite simple: Enter giveaways with as little participants as possible. e.g.

  • join a steam group with a limited number of members that does regular group giveaways
  • use the forums to enter private giveaways that are either publicly posted or hidden in a puzzle
  • create giveaways to earn contributor status
  • enter giveaways that are only open for a short time (e.g. 1 hour giveaways)

Soon 600 entries, none won, I have give away 3 games. Im surprised if I will win one at all before 2000...
