Tomorrow my class requires a laptop or phone for some research project, I don't have a phone (getting one soon though), so I have to bring my big 15.6 in. laptop. It's needed in my last period in school. I stuff everything in my locker and it's super messy, some stuff even fall-out when I open it, I have to put my laptop in there, so im worried that it will just fall out and break. Any tips?

Btw, im in middle school (or secondary school as some call it)

Edit: Mkay, my school has this policy where you can't carry backpacks around school. Also I can't take it with me the whole day, it would be safer to put it in my locker.

Edit #2: Ok im such a dumbass. Lots of you told me to give it to teacher, put in a laptopbag, etc. Anyways I just stuffed it in my locker, and when I opened it for the last period everything fell out INCLUDING my laptop. The battery came a little loose and the trackpad was stuck, I fixed the trackpad, but I learned a valuable lesson. That was a lot of risk taking for a small output. Anyway's to those who said why can't the school provied laptops? They can, we had a substitute today though and they aren't authorized to give out school devices. We're working on my project and my partner dosen't have a smartphone nor laptop, so I was pretty much forced to bring my laptop to be productive for that day. That was a big risk to take, im getting a smart-phone in around 3 weeks anyways so I don't see this being a problem in the future, thanks to all who helped!

School dosen't allow bags to be carried around, they say it's a "safety hazard" because kids trip of other kids bags on the ground

There must be a serious problem of "kids tripping over bags" in your school if they decided to ban bags.

well, then they should ban alcohol and drugs, not bags ;)

Do you have a backpack that's large enough? If so, keep it in the bag and keep the bag with you.
Or, you could explain your situation to a teacher or someone in charge and see if they'll keep it in a safe place for you until you need it.

Clean up your locker? I just carry my laptop in my bag all day (we don't have lockers in my university)

1) Put it in a sleeve or case of some sort, no matter what you do.
2) I agree with the people who say clean out your locker.
3) Keeping it in your backpack all day isn't a bad idea, if you keep your backpack on you at all times. Don't be setting it on the floor before you go buy lunch, for instance.
4) Whether you put it in your locker, or keep it in your backpack, keep it in the sleeve or case except when you're actually using it. There's an extra layer of protection if it falls, or someone runs into your backpack, or whatever other accidents can happen when you're at school with something expensive.

I'm sure you can cram it into your messy locker, just believe in yourself and apply excessive force. And maybe some disassembly.

Give it to a teacher.

Send yourself reminders to lock your locker. I've had plenty of stuff stolen from me from the gym lockers back in middle school since they didnt lock.

one of the following

1) don't bring it, your school should have a computer lab, or tablets available for use, you should not be required to bring a phone or laptop to school for anything school related, otherwise your school is not doing their job right

2) ask the teacher for the class its required to hold onto it for the day

3) use a shoulder bag for carrying it, and never set it down, can't be a trip hazard if its never on the ground(lol lame reason, nobody ever tripped on a bag during my school days... then again.. its the next generation(sigh.. why do I have to grow up))

The things is that we would've actually been using chromebooks provided by the school today. Except my real teacher in't going to be there, and the substitute isn't authorized to give out devices.

Well then I would leave it at home and not bring it in. Its just too much of a risk to bring it in for 1 class at the end of the day.

If you get a bad mark because of it, just tell them. You don't have a laptop or smart phone to bring in and the sub was not allowed to hand out the ones in school. If they already know you do have a laptop, just tell them its broke or that you were not allowed to bring it to school.

Or even just tell them the truth that you didn't want to bring it to school for 1 period at the end of the day because you could not have it in your backpack where it would be safer because you are not allowed to carry backpacks with you and that you just could not get it into your locker with everything else.

If connecting to the internet is so important for this then THEY are the ones who have to provide the equipment. If you bring your laptop and something happens to it (it gets broke or stolen) they are not going to pay for it and all the software on it are they? No it will be up to you and your parents to pay for it and hope that they can get who ever broke it to pay for it.

Agreed. Besides, what are they supposed to do with the students who don't have either one?

Just ask that substitute teacher to keep your laptop safe, I guess it's ok if it's just for one day.

"my school has this policy where you can't carry backpacks around school"
That's just about the stupidest policy I've heard in a while.

I've never heard that either...That's like an hospital having a policy where nurses can't carry syringes.

That's really how it is. There are a couple teacher's here and there who don't care about the rules and don't care about backpacks. Though 99% of the teacher will just tell you to go back and stuff it in your locker.

Ask someone from the school staff you think is trustworthy to keep it safe somewhere, then ask it back when necessary.

Or alternatively, try cleaning the locker and put the laptop in a way it won't fall.

And for last... you could try taking it along with you in a laptop bag if you got one. But do keep in mind to avoid silly moments with friends that could damage the thing, and avoid long periods of sunlight, it can damage the screen (happened with mine, after being under the sun for like 90 minutes, it was a hot day back then).

So the research requires internet? Computer? What?
Your school doesn't have a computer classroom? Asking kids to bring a laptop to school sounds as stupid as the bag policy.

Asking kids to bring a laptop to school sounds as stupid as the bag policy. What about thoses childs who can't afford a laptop... this is ridiculous.. there should be a computer room in your school.

Ask your classmates what they do if anyone is bringing laptop to school that day. And again, clean up your locker...

Try wearing your laptop as a shirt. 10/10, works every time.

DO NOT leave your laptop in your locker. Instead, take it to the main office (or school library) and ask them to hold it for you until you can return for it. They should be able to keep it safe for you.

if its required, the school has to provide it (low income familys), you should probably bring that up to the school board or whoever etc etc.

^^^that.
We aren't really that low income, but I wouldn't allow my kid to take such an expensive thing to school. Pretty much any school has to have a computer class for anything like that, and as for phones - again, not every child have a smartphone (or a cellphone for that matter), and not only because of money reasons. My kids don't, f.e. And not everyone have a laptop even when they have a computer. And most schools don't even allow phones in classes - or even on the ground beside locker room.
Sorry, but all that situation in OP sounds kinda phishy...

Not phisy sir, I wasn't very descriptive and im sorry.

A small part of my city that is very poor goes to an EXTREMELY rich district. When we're talking rich I mean the parents are making $120,000+ per year. Almost everyone has an iPhone 6 Plus just a couple days after release. Phones in every classroom, also a very rich school district they have iPads, chromebooks, netbooks, iPods, they have everything. My parents can't fit a phone into their budget, the kids are rich, so they pay me for doing homework, small favors, sometimes big favors. I make some money off of that, im going to buy a used low-end smartphone to use.

We do have computer classes...a LOT, except we had a sub and my real teacher said yesterday that there would be a sub and to bring a laptop or smartphone. The sub doesn't have authority to distribute school devices. So we had to. It was required to bring the devices.

It's a tough situation for a family like mine, but life is survival. That's why my mom reminds me everyday to study and do well, so we can get out of the situation my family is in. I hope that when I get older I will be able to support my family better.

Edit: Oh yeah, the laptop is a used laptop, so don't that against me that I have a laptop.
