Use the keys yourself or give them to a friend to use before he can. Doesn't solve your problem obviously but you'll get some comfort from imagining the exasperated expression on his face when he can't activate them.

You think even if he had a s.gifts account that would have stopped him from scamming you. If someone really wants to their reputation is not going to stop them from abusing the trust of other. All traders have the same potential for scamming, in fact most of the times I've gotten burned it was in cases going in I had full confidence in the deal and partner had rep higher or equal to me (rep rules, lowest goes first ALWAYS)

Lot of people try to go out in a blaze of glory scamming as many people as they can get away with

I've gone first in every trade (keys and gifts) and it's gone smooth each time, I've even had people just flat out give me games for free for offering to go first in a trade. o_O

I never give first if I have to do a trade involving such action in any game. If they won't hand their part first, I'd rather have no deal than a possible scam.

Well there's always a risk when it comes to trading keys, it sucks and there's no need for me to tell you what you should've or shouldn't have done, but one thing's for certain: you've learnt something out of it.
