I've been on the hunt for a strategy title that allows you to control/create an army of undead. Skeletons, zombies, undead knights etc. etc. I know of only a few games that allow you to do so and these include:

  1. Warhammer: Dark Omen

  2. Total Annihilation Kingdoms

  3. Heroes of Might and Magic

  4. Warlock: Master of the Arcane

  5. Warcraft 3

Not sure if the Total War mod Third Age or King Arthur 2: Dead Legions allows you to, but are there others?

Thanks!

Disciples III: Resurrection

Be warned though, it's not nearly as good as Disciples 2, or even Disciples III Renaissance.
Speaking of Disciples 2, I think you could play as the Undead in one of the campaigns, but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm this ?

You could indeed play as servants of Mortis as I recall.

There was campaign for every faction - Empire, Demons, North Clans and Servants of Mortis (undead, might have got wrong these names, but overall you know what it is about), also in Rise of the Elves expansion you get, right, Elves.

It's: Empire, Legions of the Damned, Mountain Clans, and the Undead Hordes (the zombie, obviously undead ones), respectively.

You were close though.

The Civ IV mod Fall from Heaven does, and it adds another undead faction in the modmod Fall from Heaven plus.

I also want to say Elemental:War of Magic does, but I don't remember it all too well =(

Age of Mythology, the Egyptians have an advancement tree that allows you to make mummies. Which make more mummies. Though I don't think this counts.

There's also Stubbs the Zombie. The grace of having an entire zombie platoon being formulated in front of you by just biting one person is too great.

kinda, they purge entire world and some units are the fusion betwen men and machine. i dont know if i am being correct to the lore since i only know them in the dawn of war series.
they play very much like undead, you can rez your troops, most troops are "cheap" to make making them expendable. you can even "reconstruct" unit from corpses. they play very similar to undead, unlike chaos which feel more a demonic touch

Necrons can create a lot of undead looking, slow walking creatures that sometimes resurrect themselves. They just walk slowly into the enemy troops while they are able to take shitloads of dmg before they go down.

Not to mention they're primarily melee units

I suppose Age of Wonders, a 4X turn based strategy game much like the Civ series. Also Warcraft III had an undead faction.

Warlords series(Battlecry was spinoff to it), The Battle for Wesnoth, Art of Magic, Spellforce(I think you could pull it off...), Black Moon Chronicles (hardly remembered the title, but you could get undead there as I recall), Warrior Kings (I think, hardly remember the game, srsly), Ghost Master, Dragon Throne(not sure), Armies of Exigo (well, good enough to try it out anyway), Chaos Legion (not sure), Sacrifice (well... creatures look undead enough to me xD),also in Etherlords you have kind of cyberundead.

I am sure I had played few more, but really wouldn't find the titles without checking out my CD stash (which is huge, packed up with games added to magazines).

Great suggestions guys! Definitely was not aware some of these games allowed you to. Been wanting to buy Kohan for a long time and now I might finally get around to it.

Thank you very much!

Black Moon Chronicles

At least the oldie versions allowed you to make an army of witches while playing with the Black Moon clan and cast an army of undead eternally from just one corpse. Pretty overpowered, and fun.

Anyway, I think I haven't seen a game about managing an army of undead as it's main gameplay mechanic, not just an alternative of gameplay. Sorry if my grammar messed up there.
