I got an e-mail earlier today about Groupees new Steampunk 3 bundle and Ion Robots Bundle, both starting in ~22 hours from when I originally wrote this. You can actually reserve them now for a discount. Steampunk is $1 now, and will be $2 when it's released. Ion Robots is $1 now for the full bundle, but will be $1 for 2 games upon release (so build-a-bundle style). They haven't released details about what these bundles will contain, making these pre-orders a bit of a gamble. Granted, it's very little money, but I still thought I'd ask for opinions on these. What do you think? Do we have a reasonable idea of what games are expected to show up in these two bundles? Is it worth reserving them now, or is it better to wait and see what we're actually getting? Thanks for your input.

Well it's only $2 for both... (I'm sure I'll regret these words tomorrow)

Batman Returns definitely! After this the 1989 Batman, Batman Forever... and otherwise I "don't know" any other Batman movie prior to C. Nolan Movies. I once had a horrible Nightmare about Schwarzenegger playing Mr.Freeze though. Out of the new movies it's The Dark Knight > Batman Begins > The Dark Knight Rises for me

Groupees didn't really disappoint yet. I'm afraid however that it might be only 1 game or maybe 2 per bundle and the rest music and ebooks which would suck. And on top there is the theme: steampunk, robots. That screams for repeats.

The original Steampunk was ok, it was only the second bundle appearance for most of those, and it had been like a year since their previous bundle. The second Steampunk was some stuff then new to bundles as well.
But I think it's more about the whole experience, so if you're not really interested in the other books, music, etc. then they're probably not ideal for you.

Thx for the heads up, I went ahead and bought them since the Build-a-Bundle mostly contains a few games I don't own yet and getting all for the price of $1 should be fine and Steampunk 1&2 were actually not that bad, so you probably can't go too wrong :)

I can't say I have a great vibe from them, but it's your money.

Well, they did this for last greenlight bundle and was mostly trash, so I guess this is the only way to get some extra sales when the bundles are weak.

And here it comes the "virtual trading coin" roll.
I will take the risk and cross fingers. Won't expect anything stellar to not get disappointed, so will let on their side to make me smile or facepalm :-)

Just got them both, if I don't like any of the games I will just add them to the rest of the bundle keys I trade with.

They just did this in the last BAB. I bought it, and the games appear to be mostly "junk" (didn't try any yet to confirm).

So...

I'll get these 2 on pre-order as well because it's only a dollar each. But, it might be the last times if there is nothing that interests me in them either. "Mystery Grab Bags" are a gamble, but sometimes you can get something you like in them.

Star Traders 4X Empires is a good 4X game, and I would have reserved the bundle based on that alone.

As I missed it, I just got that and Astraea (which my daughter is really enjoying so far...)

Im waiting personally. Neither of them particularly excite me. I reserved the last one (the Greenlight one) and while Ive not played any of those games, they all look rather shit. I can definitely tell that Ion Storm is in the space one, and Steampunk is not a "style" I really enjoy. If theres something in one of them that I want, I may bite and I may get them anyway for GAs/trades, but as of now I can't be bothered.

And ya, the whole point of the "reserve" thing is that its a gamble, but they are cheap at least to reserve.

Well, Ion Robots has 4 steam games, including Ionball 2

Have any of the characters in the Steampunk background been identified?

That looks decent enough for giving the bundle a go.
Would like to have some clue with the steampunk one, but the guys at the groupees chat haven't spoted any(as far as I know).

The Steampunk background as a whole is from City of Steam, which is a F2P. So most likely either the cheapest pack for that already on Steam or some new little extras for it.

Now Groupees invented the pre-order of sh@t, and it seems people are pre-ordering sh@t...

Yeah, people will buy anything if they don't know what it is apparently. So companies keep giving shยกt

Reserve? No thanks, you must be an idiot or crazy enough to pay for things you don't know. It's close to be a "legal scam"... And even though I also don't approve pre-ordering of games, at least you know what game you're buying and what to expect with those. But here, you have nothing. And the "reserve" is a lie, on Groupees there was never a limited number of bundles available to buy before. They're just hiding the fact that most of the games, if not all of them, are bad or just trash, like the "mystery game" that Indie Royale invented to sell more. The mystery game has always been the worst game in each bundle.

A clever buyer always checks first, and pays later.

Jeez, you'd think even a small amount of effort put into a few games would be worth at least a freakin' dollar, even if you don't know what you're getting.

Well I pre-ordered Ion Robots because...robots... but will pass Steampunk for now since I'm not big fan of the theme though might get it if the comics are good.

Um... I don't really think I'd be giving much to charity if I "pre-order" these bundles for 1$ each... 1$ for several games is too ass cheap even for me (when charity is involved at least).

According to the Soles4Souls website they can provide a pair of shoes for every dollar they receive. So for every five people paying the minimum with the charity box ticked, that's something accomplished. And if that's not enough you can uncheck the charity box then visit the website and donate as much as you like separately.

So are we overall not fans of the new preorder option?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Usually pre order means a risk on possible quality lower than advertised.
Here you are blind, and each customer has it's own tastes. Even blind dates have more success probabilities cause the organisers know the only involved participants. Perhaps it can be compared to going to a kiosk and give half of the price for a newspaper or magazine and let the owner give to you a random newspaper or magazine. Maybe it matches someone's tastes, but not everyone.

BTW which is your position there?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't see what difference it makes. It's not like you have to reserve it in order to get anything from the bundle. If you want to wait and see what's in it before getting anything, then that's also an option.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Who said it's the only way? The debate is to get it before (cheaper blindly) or wait for the regular price.
But the word preorder /= without any info. Preorder is purchasing cheaper before the release to provide money before. Money has different value on each moment. That's why interest exist. So the correct word is Gamble.
