Hi! I'm pretty new to steamgifts, this is my second giveaway, the first was for Syberia II.

My new giveaway: Crypt of the NecroDancer

First off, Crypt of the NecroDancer is awesome, and I want more people to get a chance to play it! Such a fantastic game that feels incredibly difficult at first, but gets much easier as you start to get in the groove. And has some sweet pixel art too! :)

I'd also like to mention the Greenlight page for my game, Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey. I'm trying to avoid doing what most people seem to do these days (give away a free copy to everyone that votes), because I think that's a terrible practice. Instead I'm hoping that some of you will vote for the game, and I'll try to keep doing giveaways for awesome games.

Letter Quest on Greenlight

We're just a small two-person indie dev trying to get noticed in the crazy world of indie games. Thank you for reading if you got this far. :)

Oh, and if you want to try out Letter Quest (or buy it!) there's a web and PC demo at www.letterquestgame.com.

Cheers!

I agree! And it's a phenomenal game, truly! I hope that NecroDancer gets all of the attention and sales that it deserves (I'm sure it will, it's getting tons of coverage everywhere!)

Thank you, it's been a long road getting the game to this point, so much work! (Myself and the other guy in the company have spent around 24 man-months full-time on the game between the two of us).

I can imagine. I have one thing to complain about though. Its too addictive and now you made me buy it. I demand you make the game less fun XD

Hahahaha that's the nicest complaint we've ever had! :)

Would you mind if I added that to our list of reviews/mentions on the official game site? I can link to your profile here if you want, or your twitter account if you have one, just let me know. I like having quotes from people about the game, not just from press sites.

looks like fun - and cute too! <3 surely I've voted! Hope it will be Greenlit - that would be so much better than some other titles that got through 'cause of "free keys"... Thank you for your work - and for giveaway.

Your game looks awesome, man! The only problem is that I don't speak English very well, but I voted yes anyway! Good job and good luck with the greenlight. :)

Thank you for the vote! And we actually have quite a few players that are learning English or have English as a second (or in some people's cases, third or fourth language!!) language, and have said that playing the game has been helpful to them, especially because on PC/Mac it has the definitions of over 160,000 words built in. :)

Oh, Great! I'll try it in PC for sure! I tried to install the android version but Google Play says to me that the game isn't available in my country (Spain) :( Is there any way I could get it? Maybe you could send me the APK if it's free(I also can't see the price)?.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It is free on Google Play, and yeah it's only currently available in US and Canada because Google doesn't help developers with taxes (they make us figure it out). So I have to manually submit taxes at year end to EVERY country I sell the game in, it's absolutely ridiculous! Sorry about that!

It is on Amazon Apps in all countries but costs $2.99, but also includes all of the optional content, with no in-app purchases of any kind.

I can send you an APK if you'd like, drop me an email at mark at-sign-goes-here baconbanditgames dot com and I'll send you a link. Just mention your username and that you're from steamgifts so I know who you are.

Cheers! :)

I must say, I loved your game. Adding multi-language support to it might be a huge boost, just be careful with the collaborator's spelling not ruining the whole stuff xD

Thanks for the giveaway!

Thank you! Yeah, multi-language support has been on our wishlist for some time, it's just such a monumental undertaking with a game like this. We'll see what we can do! :)

Is the game still in beta? I'm considering buying it.
Edit: you should make the demo a bit shorter :P

If you mean Crypt, then yes, it's in early access, although it's incredibly polished and playable already.

If you mean Letter Quest, then no, it's not in beta, it is finished and released. :)

And I could make the demo shorter, but I wanted to make sure that it gave people a nice preview of how more things are added to the store, fighting the first miniboss, etc. :)

I actually like word games, so I'll look forward to it. So do you plan to give away a crazy amount when your game is out?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you mean do we plan on giving out copies to everyone that voted...no.

We will be doing a bunch of giveaways on here for Letter Quest once it's on Steam though, to say thank you to everyone in this awesome community - I've been really impressed by how awesome and supportive everyone here has been, it's great!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's what I meant. I did read what you posted, after all. Often you see developers give away like 100 copies of their game. It seems kind of crazy (to me).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sorry, I just wanted to be clear and make sure I was actually answering your question! :)

Yeah, it feels a bit crazy to give away 100s of copies to me too. I'll probably give away maybe 5-10 at a time a couple of times and see how that goes. It's tricky to balance giving out some copies to raise awareness while not giving away too many!

Just curious, if the iOS version is free, will the PC version be a different game as far as progression goes?

I assume the iOS one is supported by microtransactions but the PC version will be a one-time purchase instead?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The PC/Mac version is $4.99, and includes all of these changes from the mobile version. I spent almost 4 months of full-time work on the PC/Mac versions. :) It also includes the full soundtrack, with custom album art as a nice bonus we wanted to give to everyone.

The iOS version does have in-app purchases, including one for $2.99 to unlock all of the optional weapons, tilesets, and the second character.

We felt that charging $2 more for the PC version seemed fair considering the massive amount of changes/differences it has from the mobile version. :)

Nice to see it's not just a straight port, too many devs put no effort into iOS->PC. Thanks for answering all my questions, the game is definitely on my radar and at $5 it's pretty hard to go wrong. I hope your answers helped some others reading this as well :P

Good luck with your Greenlight campaign!

You're welcome! And thank you for your comments! And I agree, many devs just take an iOS game, get it running on PC, and say "good enough". I'm not a fan of that practice!

We're actually making decent progress on Greenlight this past week, we've jumped up almost 15% of the way to the top 100 in about 7 days! I'm really hoping we get through in the next batch!

hmm, doesn't exactly seem like my type of game, but I'll give it a yes just because I appreciate that you aren't selling out with free copies and it does seem to be well polished for such a small development team :)

Thank you so much, I really do appreciate the vote! I definitely don't want to give out free copies for every vote, I hate that practice and hope that Valve can do something about it, it defeats the purpose of Greenlight!

And thank you, we worked very hard to make a really polished game (which takes a surprisingly lengthy amount of time!)
